Some observations for what it's worth....
Very much a "we've done the business let's go through the motions" affair...but that still doesnt excuse some pretty horrific lackof quality.
We tried to play some sort of passing game more than we have, but after a preseason of "press and pump the ball" everyone seems to have forgotten how to make a pass more than 5 yards on the deck (and tbh, even most of the 5 yard passes went astray).
Return to a back 3 was alright and would probably stick with it for the league until Jones is back at least. Our midfield balance is awful so box or no box doesn't really matter, get an extra defender in instead.
Berry, took the half arsed approach to all new dazzling heights. From Luton regular and making prem appearances to league one sub and mundane motor cup starter...but he can't complain as he's not showed much when given a chance from the start, should be putting a stamp on games given his "pedigree". Probably sulking.
Ahadme, not a lone striker and needs a proper partner (shock to no one)
Enslin nice full debut, handled himself well.
Leaburn scored and showed some of what we hope/expect from him, get a hypnotist in and convince him every match is a BSM game.
Meh.6 -

Turgid stuff. I now believe in reincarnation as I must have done something bad in a previous life to have suporting Charlton inflicted on me.2
-
I had it on for petrol head (honestly) and fell asleep on and off watching it
did the crap commentator keep saying Ahadme had been subbed , naming the wrong player and even talked up Leaburns goal , wasn’t that a big deflection 🤷♂️
what was NJ sent off for , for controlling the ball an inch outside his technical area and speeding the game up rather than letting it bounce in To the crowd , all very weird0 -

1-0 win against a League 2 reserve side!
You must take off those 'rose-tinted' glasses, and accept it was a borefest, poor football, and uninspiring.
Finally, if I was a youngster being given my opportunity to play in the 1st team, there is no-way I would've just played to 60%, I would've given 100% to make an impression on NJ!

Didn't watch the game but from the comments on here and from the highlights it might be that Kai Enslin offers more of a creative attacking midfield threat than the other options we've tried. At least he seems to be able to beat a player without simply relying on pace.2

It’ll be interesting to see where Jones sees him playing. He’s mainly played LWB for the u21s, but been a RW in the past along with filling in at CB and CM. Could make a case for most of those positions as he has a bit of everything to his game without being outstanding in one or two areas.2 -
Thoroughly unimpressed by anything on show last night if i'm honest - how we have constructed a squad with such a lack of attacking ability or pace is quite something. I genuinely have no idea what our route to goal is supposed to be in any of the formations we play. If Jones, Ramsey and Campbell aren't back very soon, i struggle to see how we will grind out another win.4
-
My opinion is that fans should ease off heavy current expectations regarding Enslin.
He was decent last night, but the lad is young and inexperienced so handle with care. He looks good because the current midfielders are very poor so we hope for better.
If our midfield had players of the level of Dobson (who has a different style) Albie Morgan and Aaron Henry at his best we might be wanting to nurture Enslin rather than play him.
What I thought was really pathetic about last night was that Nathan Jones got sent off.7 -

the change in shape, style and some youngsters getting game time suggests that the game was taken as a glorified friendly

So am I correct in saying that jones got sent off for kicking the ball when it was still on the pitch?
I haven’t seen the replay, did he!0 -

Incident occurs at about 30 seconds in this film.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1oe4mklkdE

I’ve only seen it once
no one was anywhere near the ball which was going to bounce out of play and probably in to the crowd he stepped out of his technical area one foot and controlled it and left it there prolly on the line or partially over the line at most if at all , genuinely speeding the game up , no one complained ,seemed really nit picky if it was for that .2 -
It was hard to fully understand the Jones incident from the stream, the commentator seemed to me to be watching in a studio somewhere and was a second behind the action throughout (maybe picture and audio mismatch), but from what I could discern the referee told Nathan Jones off for something, but it was Jones reaction to the initial censure that escalated it to a sending off, because after the referee bit, Jones apparently went pleading and moaning to the fourth official.
Admittedly that is my take, and others might have a clearer idea about what happened.0 -
Having endured (there really is no other word for it) watching the game, I was so disappointed that the highly skilful, entertaining & future Charlton legend Allan Campbell didn’t get any game time2
-
Well it was better than Hollyoaks and Eastenders that my wife was watching, mind you that not a hard bar to crawl over.1

im wondering if jones than mouthed back after his telling off0 -
Why not have a word with Jones and maybe book him. But to send him off shows a lack of common sense. My son is a ref and doing well and I had a good discussion with him last night. I said that I felt the game is trying to remove common sense from refs, maybe to make decisions accross the piece more consistent and he agreed but said he would always apply common sense as a cornerstone to how he refs. I said that could hold him back and he said basically, if it does it does but he doesn't want to ref like a robot.
Having said that, we discussed the handball rule and he has to apply the laws but he does speak to sides afterwards and say he doesn't like doing it but that is what the laws of the game are now. My belief which I won't go into is the people at the top of the game are idiots and VAR could have been introduced so that it works much better, just stop trying to make it perfect which is impossible, and apply those magic words, common sense to everything. Maybe they don't think there are enough people with common sense to go round.3 -
Its official, we are the kings of the south London derby, just give us the trophy now!2
