  • Nice to see in the club shop today unsold Wrexham / Charlton 50/50 scarfs.
I find that a strange comment (unless you were being sarcastic).
Whether you agree with them or not it would have been better for the club if we had sold out.
Sometimes the soul is more important than the wallet...  ;)
    Exactly.

I wonder how much these "famous" scarves cost,  how many were sold and how many were left. Ie how much money did the club actually make from them, and was it worth it?
  • Any spares going for the game?

50% off for the 50/50 scarfs?
  • On "Where's the Money Gone" podcast....Methven gives some insights into the financial returns and issues around leveraging Wrexham's visit to the valley - including referencing half and half scarfs and Mark Goldbridge. Very interesting. I am at work so haven't the time to give a summary  - kindly go f yourself :)

We are far too friendly and welcoming as a football club.  Borders on submissive.  Is part of the problem that's seen us get turned over year after year.

A welcoming place for all visitors including away teams.  Nonsense that does us absolutely no favours and probably helps the oppo.

I am pleased for Wrexham having watching the doc and think good for them as a working class town as the club has really given them as sense of identity and pride....but when it comes to matchday fuck them.

Rolling out the carpet as if it's a long lost relative, jesus wept.
It's naff and is a stupid gimmick, but can you give other examples of us being too nice and how that affects us winning games. Massive overreaction.
Moving season ticket holders for Bournemouths promotion party
Letting Millwall fans leave & locking in the home fans.
I remember when the club got that Norwegian opera singer sung You'll Never Walk Alone to the travelling Liverpool fans.

It's actually rather interesting how much research goes in to this kind of thing and the episode is definitely worth a listen.

When I went to the shop, after the game, they said they were selling quite well. Then when offered one took one look at them saw that Welcome to London advert behind them and said 'Do you have any of those Welcome to London scarfs with just the Charlton badges on.

He Definitely said that but even if we sold 289 at lets say £5 profit on each , was the ridicule really worth the £1445 they made on them ? I think not
Ridicule on here really doesn’t come into it I don’t suppose.

We try and sell all sorts of tat and crap value  food/drink etc. it’s just another pound note.

I've just watched the podcast with Charlie Methven podcast, and he seems to talk about how lower league teams are trying to increase their revenue, looking for a global market, trying to tap into individual games, because of their high profile, like Wrexham and Birmingham, and to me he made a lot of sense. When the amount of money spent on the transfer market is becoming more controlled by your revenue, a percentage of that, then any extra money raised will be paramount. It seems obvious, but he spoke about a lot of lower league teams rely on their fanbase or owners to fund the majority of the income. I know on here he is seen as a bit of a prick, but to me he spoke a lot of economic sense.
Careful! That’s a considered opinion…you’ll rile up the rabble!

Listen, could he run a football club better than me? Probably
Would I make half and half scarves at my club? No
Swings and roundabouts but ultimately he’s £1400 up on me…

Except he’s not the next time he pays Allan Campbells poxy wages

Listen to the fucking podcast and THEN you can snipe if you want.
but clearly a lot of research and effort went in to the whole day and various initiatives were tried.  And the fact remains we generated a ton of additional food & drink sales and merchandise as well as an extra 10,000 ticket sales.
Like it or loathe it but Wrexham being a shit-ton of interest so we tapped into it and made some money out of it.

perhaps we should applaud the club for trying to be ahead of the curve.
Sounds like woke bs to me, id rather our club struggled or even better goes out of buisness.
  • For all the good work they done promoting the game, the main talking point from everyone is about half an half scarves.

For me, its a no no and I most definitely do not like seeing another teams badge in our shop.
