POST-MATCH THREAD: Huddersfield Town v Charlton Athletic: Saturday 23rd November 2024: KO 15:00

After a long international break, Charlton travelled north to Huddersfield in hopes of gaining both points and confidence to inspire a run in the right direction. Conditions weren’t ideal. A side depleted through injury were met with swirling winds and relentless, torrential rain that made the afternoon quite challenging. The first forty-five minutes were all action. Charlton fell behind on thirteen minutes through Huddersfield’s left midfielder, Michel Miller who got his head on the end of a corner and headed past Ashley Maynard-Brewer. Not long after Miller had another opportunity that he should have scored. Thankfully, his effort didn’t find the back of the net. With Charlton still in it, the equaliser came when Edmonds-Green forced contact in the area and went over. Matty Godden converted the penalty to bring Charlton level. Then, another twist changed momentum again, when Charlton captain Grey Docherty’s late challenge resulted in an instant, rather harsh, dismissal.

Down to ten men, Charlton started the second half brightly. Conversely, Huddersfield looked complacent and soon the visitors would put them under continual pressure. Charlton came close to scoring through Leaburn, who seemed to delight in causing the Huddersfield back line, and in turn their fans, problems. The whole second half turned quite contentious. It was Huddersfield that prevailed through the conditions with their one man advantage to take the lead on sixty three minutes through a long-range Kasumu effort that flew past Maynard-Brewer. Where I thought the keeper could have done better with the goal, there were saves to come that offered partial redemption. Charlton pressed for a second equaliser which never came, despite come clear opportunities that fell to the battling strikers, Leaburn and substitute Ahadme.

Middle table obscurity is inevitable unless some substantial quality is added in January.

Even Karel Fraeye thinks Jones is a football terrorist.

Another season of being absolutely shite. Bring on 25/26 with a different manager.

We need a new grown up manager long before then!
  • Two weeks to improve on the Exeter performance and we come back looking worse.

Jones needs to do the right thing and walk away. He's yesterday's man who got extremely lucky at Luton. If it's true he was kicking off at one our players on the pitch at full time then he's not fit to manage this club.

Done ok with ten men can’t fault the effort just lack quality and bodies to change it up. Long season ahead as the injuries mount. Our inability to chances will haunt us however Huddersfield probably missed just as many

I'll never give up on fellow CAFC supporters, but I have given up on those that own, run and manage our club.

    REMEMBER

so did Lincoln, it is great to think we may be  as good as them once in a while.

Took them years to find it,wonder how long more it takes for us to find a defence a midfield, strikers & a fucking manager that can get a tune out of his very own players…& a Captain that hasn’t deserted his profession as a footballer…
  • Jones has made some terrible signings and we're playing terrible football. Hard to see how things will change.

Quite an achievement to be so bad season after season...

Only 4 points now above the bottom 4. Two big games coming up against Burton & Crawley, don't win at least one of them it is starting to look very nasty.

    In League One fixtures:

0 wins in the previous 5 games.

1 win in the previous 9 games.
    Simply not good enough.
  • Deserved something from the game for the 2nd half performance with 10 men and but for Leaburns header going just wide and Ahadmes unbelievable miss from 2 yards out we wouldve done. Two very average sides. Glad Docherty is suspended for 3 games, shame Hylton cant be as well for that shameful free kick. Midtable at best this season.

It turns out I’ve been going for over a quarter of a century now and this is without doubt the worst team I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching. Even when we were shit, we were better than this. Remember Roland? It’s almost the glory days!

Luckily I have my boys u11 team as my 2nd (soon to be first) team.

    This season P10 W9 L1.

If anyone lives anywhere near West Sussex and would like to watch a football team that passes the ball to each other in a way that resembles a real football team then get yourself down to Sompting recreation ground for 10am tomorrow morning (weather permitting)
  • After a poor first half, in fairness the 10 men left gave it a good go in the second half and we could have got a draw that was probably deserved.

But let's be honest, it's nearly time to start looking at the bottom of the table, not the top. And if Leaburn is now out for any time, we really should start looking at the bottom 4's results.

Sums it all up for me that we ended up with Ahadme and Hylton up front. Ahadme may get the odd goal but he is hopeless. And Hyton isn't a joke, he's just a complete idiot for trying to take a quick free kick to a player in an off side position when we had a free kicjk in a really dangerous position.

And Jones is an embarrassment. Booked again, throwing himself to the ground, non-stop moaning. It's not a good look.
  • He’s gone by Christmas, I’m not sure we have got any better. Potentially worse, at least we could score goals.

Injuries or not you don’t expect the football to be this dire, Southend knocked it round better than us.

If Hylton was a dog, he’d be taken out back and shot. Personally, I’d shoot him regardless for that pass at the end.

Just bored of it now tbh, really glad I didn't go today, and will reluctantly make my way to Burton. It doesn't feel like a hobby following Charlton anymore now, more like a chore. It's complete anti-football and there's too many chancers within the club.

I'd love to know what the owners are thinking, cause this is genuinely unacceptable. The quality of player is dire.

Need players in Jan. To many poor players in the side coupled with a terrible injury list. I'm not one, yet, calling for NJ's head, just swapping managers hasn't worked over the last few seasons, and anyway who is available that could change this around without spending money?
However, the current side have no fluidity, midfield is static going forwards, and the defence without Jones and Ramsay is poor.
Miles needs help, he needs someone to deliver balls into the box.
Once we went to 10 men we looked a bit better, but that's not saying much.
We must beat Burton and Walsall, this side needs confidence.  Finally the owners need to dig deep and get some playmaker's into the side.

They put a real shift in second half and could have easily taken a point if Leaburn’s header was the other side of the post or Ahadme didn’t head wide when it looked easier to score.
It’s going to take another season at least to get this right. Madness to call for Jones to be sacked even though I agree the hoof ball is shocking.
