A few months ago I had to call on all my parenting skills to explain to my soon to be 8 year old Son, that Charlton is in the family blood (my Grandad’s ashes are at The Valley) and one day we will get better
He even put another Charlton top on his Birthday list.
All his classmates support Premier teams, mostly Arsenal and West Ham as we now live in Essex.
Tonight he just asked again why, why are we always so rubbish (I roll out the Lennie, Alan and Chris stories), but he knows nothing else other than Charlton being a very average mid table division 3 side.I’m beginning to feel that being a good parent is not putting him through this crap every week and I can’t see it getting better anytime soon.I can remember going to midweek reserve games with my Grandad in the late seventies and early eighties, that seemed more fun with 50 people on a November night than this lot of soulless nobodies.25 -

But after so many duds now, we've got to believe its more than just the Manager and if we get rid of Jones its just going to be another re-arranging of the deckchairs.1 -

Redmidland said:msomerton said:Redmidland said:Need players in Jan. To many poor players in the side coupled with a terrible injury list. I'm not one, yet, calling for NJ's head, just swapping managers hasn't worked over the last few seasons, and anyway who is available that could change this around without spending money?
However, the current side have no fluidity, midfield is static going forwards, and the defence without Jones and Ramsay is poor.
Miles needs help, he needs someone to deliver balls into the box.
Once we went to 10 men we looked a bit better, but that's not saying much.
We must beat Burton and Walsall, this side needs confidence. Finally the owners need to dig deep and get some playmaker's into the side.3 -

MuttleyCAFC said:I don't think this game should be the one that makes us turn against Jones. It hasn't been good enough and the way we started wasn't good enough but there were aspects of the performance that were positive. We had a poor decision and the rub of the green not falling our way to blame but that doesn't excuse the start. I am a bit conflicted but Jones needs to clear his head and work it out.4

If you haven't got enough goals through the team it isn't always easy to fix. I can go back a number of seasons where this has been the case. I have said it before but any player we bring in from now on has to have a positive goal record relative to their position. No matter how good they are.0

Braziliance said:Bangkokaddick said:Do we have poor players or is it the style of play that's the biggest problem, or a combination of the two?
How often do we put a passing movement together in the opposition half? Is that idea coached out of them or is it beyond our players to do so?
If we had a solid defence it might work to a degree but at the moment, certainly without Jones, we don't.
A lot of posters state that we need better players but how effective would we be with Herbie Kane and David Kasumu, probably Huddersfield's best players today, if we play the Nathan Jones style?
I thought the second half today was a good battling performance but not one that's going to win us games week after week, especially if we continue to start games so poorly.
You could bring in any manager, and I doubt the results will change much. Once again, we have recruited a lot of bad players. We are so bloody good at it, that it's quite frightening.
We need a complete overhaul, complete identity change, and being blunt, I don't care anymore if Jones isn't part of it. Need to drain the swamp completely. There's too many chancers at this club from the management, to backroom staff, to the players. It's completely unacceptable how average we are at football. Average might even be a bit generous.7 -

I'm seriously concerned with people's expectations having to make that statement9 -
LoOkOuT said:After a long international break, Charlton travelled north to Huddersfield in hopes of gaining both points and confidence to inspire a run in the right direction. Conditions weren’t ideal. A side depleted through injury were met with swirling winds and relentless, torrential rain that made the afternoon quite challenging. The first forty-five minutes were all action. Charlton fell behind on thirteen minutes through Huddersfield’s left midfielder, Michel Miller who got his head on the end of a corner and headed past Ashley Maynard-Brewer. Not long after Miller had another opportunity that he should have scored. Thankfully, his effort didn’t find the back of the net. With Charlton still in it, the equaliser came when Edmonds-Green forced contact in the area and went over. Matty Godden converted the penalty to bring Charlton level. Then, another twist changed momentum again, when Charlton captain Grey Docherty’s late challenge resulted in an instant, rather harsh, dismissal.
Down to ten men, Charlton started the second half brightly. Conversely, Huddersfield looked complacent and soon the visitors would put them under continual pressure. Charlton came close to scoring through Leaburn, who seemed to delight in causing the Huddersfield back line, and in turn their fans, problems. The whole second half turned quite contentious. It was Huddersfield that prevailed through the conditions with their one man advantage to take the lead on sixty three minutes through a long-range Kasumu effort that flew past Maynard-Brewer. Where I thought the keeper could have done better with the goal, there were saves to come that offered partial redemption. Charlton pressed for a second equaliser which never came, despite come clear opportunities that fell to the battling strikers, Leaburn and substitute Ahadme.
Middle table obscurity is inevitable unless some substantial quality is added in January.
Huddersfield 2 Charlton 1
A former Nathan Jones Luton player incidentally.2 -

Another one of our games where key moment goes against us.. Sending of at 1-1 swings the momentum back to them...think we deserved something from the game... Leaburn, Ahadme good chances.… we move on and the good thing is we are still only 7 points of play

It's just, with the exception of Kanu, I don't think the rest are good enough.0 -

Certain to sign for us in January.

Throw available team names at the wall
See what sticks
Watch inadequate makeweights fuck up all over again
Rinse
Repeat
Wonder what NJ does to fill the rest of his week?
The squad is shabby especially NJ’s recruitees but his use of it is wilfully awful
Arrogance or incompetence add up to the same dreary shit we get served up week after week
He sees what we see but fucks up anyway and all his pre and post match gobbledegook just rubs salt into the wound
Happy Saturday Addicks!4 -
We get a pattern of play, then we get injuries, Jones, Anke, Small, ( I know he has returned ) Edwards was out Mannion . We looked like we had cracked it first few games. We lack depth in the squad. It’s no good moaning about Refs and Lino they’re all poor at this level.I would give Jones a second window and see how we are going in April. If we bin Jones who is going to want to A play for us and B manage us.6
-
Still, at least we’ve got Burton Albion on Tuesday night to look forward too.5

I thought Anderson did ok today. It would be a mistake to write him off IMO.9

Its because we've got no stability in at the club, no identity... Nearly every transfer window involves the next Manager "fixing" the "problems" caused by the last one... How can you not see that?
We're like some bloke whose trapped in quicksand, we're fighting harder and harder to get out of the problem, only by panicking we're sinking quicker and quicker11 -

hoof_it_up_to_benty said:Jones has made some terrible signings and we're playing terrible football. Hard to see how things will change.
Quite an achievement to be so bad season after season...
When you look at the turnover of players managers and owners we've had over the past few years it really is something of a spectacular achievement for us to be so consistently shite season after season. We've had to work really hard to be this bad for this long.
Well done to all. Wankers.7 -
