Rob's Explorer (nice!) at 36mm will have a dial size approximating to a 40mm diver because the Explorer has a much thinner bezel. For example, my 37.5mm Clemence Munro wears just as big as my 40mm Sub.It's what it looks like to the eye rather than getting the measuring calipers out!40mm case size is the smallest I currently own and 43mm is the biggest.I also think that a watch should have a date complication…..so also don’t currently own anything without one.0

I was in Zurich last weekend and did plenty of watch shop window gazing but kept my wallet in my pocket. Lots of Swiss brands I didn’t know too well, but one took my eye and that was Mido.
I particularly like the Multifort, probably because I love the Patek Aquanaut. Whilst I spend two lifetimes saving for the PP, I might be tempted with the Mido.
Anyone know of Mido or has one? Any other ‘secret’ Swiss brands that could be good investments?

Mido are part of the Swatch group (Omega, Blancpain, Longines, Breguet, Hamilton etc.). Solid affordable watches.1

No one been tempted by one of these yet!

edit, I'm as guilty as anyone buying sub £1,000 automatic watches. But you do need to keep in mind though that over a longish period you will likely spend more than the value of the watch servicing it.1 -
Mido use ETA movements I think.ETA and Selita movements are the workhorses of the Swiss Watch market. Fairly cheap but very reliable. You could replace the movement entirely for the price of a Rolex service. As far as I knew, the PRX movement cannot really be serviced and therefore the watch is pretty much a disposable item.1

EDIT, looking again they are both based on the Caliber 80.

There are different types of the Powermatic 80 movement. The Tissot Gentleman has an upgraded version with a silicone balance spring for better anti-magnetism, compared to the PRX.

My wife bought me a gorgeous Tag Heur Carrera a few years ago and it is beautiful. I am very selective about when I wear it though as there is now way I'd let someone steal it and it makes me a bit jumpy to have it on when out. Day to day I have a selection of Casio G-Shocks and switch them around. Coupled with the box of hooky Rolex and Omega watches I've bought home from holidays, one of them is a bent submariner that makes everyone look twice at it, its gebuinly a lovely watch at first, second and third glance but touch it and it feels horrible.
Years ago I bought 50 casio watches, basic ones with gold and silver straps and was selling them on ebay for a tenner each, saw recently that those ones go for three or four times that now. Hindsight is 20/20 and that would have been a lovely investment to have forgotten about until now0 -
Finally collected last week. Think it's now my favourite watch! What next.........

Nor for me @bobmunro.I can appreciate the craftsmanship, but I buy watches to predominantly tell the time and this is far too fussy for me. Only about 20% of the dial real estate being used for the time function.I’m sure I’d also turn the chime off once the novelty had worn off (appx 2 hours).1

Been looking for a smart watch for a while. Wanted something different and definitely not a Samsung, Apple or Garmin. Picked up this on eBay for half the original selling price. Tag Heuer Connected E4. Should be delivered tomorrow.

Ulysse Nardin GMT big date bought about 14 years ago. Around 42 mm but seems bigger due to the small bezel.

Pay rise backdated to April hit my account last week. Had my eye on the Christopher Ward Super Compressor but found a Sealander Elite Ti on eBay. Worn once, box, papers, warranty to 2029 and £400 under the list price. No brainer in the end.

Am looking to move this one on. It's just a bit too small for my taste and I know it won't get the wear it deserves. Christopher Ward Sealander Elite Ti. Have it listed on eBay but thought I would pop it on this thread in case any of you watch officiando's are interested. It's in excellent condition with the original box and CW warranty till 2029. RRP circa £1200 will take £750 from a Lifer. Can provide more pics if people want them.0 -
