Noticed after the game NJ wasn't front and centre in celebrating in front of the away end...... think he let the players take their bow........ Northampton were poor, but today, there was much more fluidity in the passing through midfield, and the width provided by Tyreece and Small. Did this happen because it was sorted out on the training ground, or because of the illness in the squad forced his hand. We will never know, but I guess whether this is a momentum change will be confirmed in the results of the next few games.

To be honest I'm a bit cheesed off. I've waded through around 95% of the crap that has been served up this season, and today having flewn in to England late last night, sat down to dinner with my family to celebrate Christmas (youngest daughter that is sadly for her, a convert following an intervention from SCP in her formative years, is now an NHS nurse working the whole Christmas period, thus we were eating a festive feast and missed the game). So it's annoying that Jones and his band of insubordinates, decides today would be the day that we put in an a game of two good halves.
The upside upon hearing the news was to watch the final scenes, and feel some joy for all of those that have yet again given up their money, time and energy to support this club that we oft endure a love hate relationship with.
So on this strangely odd match day, I send out a message to all men, fanny's, and lurkers, even those that may be considered wind up merchants, and yes, even those that covet another team (that we definitely do not), Happy Christmas one and all.
Final note for 'Jones The Steam', less hot air and more like today please.8 -
I take it that NJ's early exit may have caused some on-lookers to question his motives but sometimes you don't need to be demonstrative to prove a point. He clearly believes in this squad whilst we all believe this squad has underperformed, both are right. When things are not going well, fans will place everything a Manager does, under a microscope and if managers don't understand that then they probably need to get out. It's a great win and credit to NJ for it but he needs to get this team playing consistently well for fans to once again place their faith in him.5

Think it's unlikely (& I certainly hope not from someone who has had no involvement in professional football) that Carter is giving Jones "advice" on the set up of the team. I mean that I suspect the owners have advised Jones via the conduit Gavin Carter (no longer Methven) that the style of boring hoof ball, losing games and dwindling attendances, needed a change of tactic.
So Carter effectively passing on the owner's message, even if he passed it on to Methven, Rodwell or Scott.
Maybe it didn't happen, maybe the owners were happy with Jones, the hoof ball, the results and the dwindling crowds and haven't said anything.1 -

Happens all the time. The players push the one who got the goals forward to take the plaudits instead of them staying in the group. We saw it with Ahadme in the cup game, they're a decent group and there's not a lot of billy big bollocks types who are going to try and get all the praise for themselves. I see that as a good thing. I also remember that Hamer used to wander round interacting with the fans on his own and enjoying the wins and got grief on here for 'milking it'. The second half against Mansfield the away team sat back giving Coventry, in particular, space to pass forward instead of backwards for a change. Northampton today were a rabble and our two early goals gave us momentum. Small and TC were further up the field than they have been in previous games because Northampton were so poor they did not put us under pressure defensively.Covered End said:

Nobody would be more pleased than me if we have changed our style to a more passing game, but I think we need to see a few more games before we can be sure it is a deliberate shift and not just because of the weakness of the opposition.13 -

Most players were at least engaging in eye contact with the fans and enjoying the moment.I have seen Leaburn at events in real life and he does not avoid eye contact in person. I just get the impression something is not right (could be he does not like working under Jones or does not like the style of play).I’ll remember next time not to pass on my observations for fear of upset.2 -
There was a moment, in the second half I think, when Alex Mitchell was high up the pitch and the ball fell to a Northampton player, allowing him to turn on the break. Mitchell, the closest Charlton player, chased him down at a pace I never knew he was capable of! He’s quite surprisingly rapid at times.17

I think we might be reading too much into the tactical change. The long ball seems to be a desperate alternative when we can't get behind defences. We really didn't have any issues with this in the game so there was no need for it. The question has to be was this down to us or a poor Northampton. I do like the two wide players and the way we have two formations within the one where it is different when we attack to when we defend.
We have been finding it hard to string moves together recently but there were some very slick ones today. I really hope the confidence we will gain from today will see a turning point. No guarantees but at home to Cambridge is potentially a good follow up in terms of building some momentum. Let's hope we take what seems to there for us.4 -
Only followed the result and seen the highlights. First three goals were very soft, but credit due to Doherty, Campbell and Leaburn for finishing the chances and being ruthless. Looks like we are back to our best defensively now Jones is back in defence.
After last season implosion I wasn’t sure what would happen next after the Crawley game, so pleased that we have seemed to be going back up the table.Much better Charlton.2 -
Merry Christmas & today everybody’s having fun . Look to the future, as hopefully it’s only just begun ! Didn’t see this result until later as I’d taken my Grandson to see the Paddington bear movie. I did a double take when checking the result. Paddington going to Peru seemed more believable than Charlton scoring 5 today but I’m hoping this is the start of a good run. I think I’ll take a marmalade sandwich with me on Boxing Day for luck !12
