Yes definitely Tony Burns, it's the only reason I remember him, his throwing, in preference to kicking was unique and intriguing to a young kid like me at the time.killerjerrylee said:

I thought John Dunn was a very good shot stopper and made some spectacular diving saves, and looked the part with his long flowing hair.
But Charlie was a great all round keeper with a terrific personality.1 -
I remember Charlie getting pelted with sweets following a misdemeanour by a large away crowd at the Valley. Charlie gathered them up and re-distributed them to the kids at the front. They ended up chanting his name3

So very sad to hear this news, I was always happy to see him between the sticks.RIP Charlie and thank you for the memories which I’ll always treasure.

Just caught up with this.
Very sad news. I remember the ball through his legs episode but also a tremendous “double” save in front of the covered end. A real character who often engaged with the fans during a game.RIP.0 -

I sort of remember him saving s shot against the post which rebounded back hit him on the head and went in
, possibly a 4-2 defeat by Blackburn Rovers.

One of our true greats, always stood out for me. I used to play in goal at my primary and always wanted to be a Charlie Wright or Peter the 'Cat' Bonetti, RIP Charlie!

I have told this tale before.
During a game I recall Phil Warman had collected the ball after it went for a goal kick and was about to throw it back to Charlie Wright.
As everyone was walking back to the halfway line and looking the other way, Charlie told Phil to put the ball down and pass it to him as though they had quickly taken a short goal kick.
Phil obliged and Charlie casually picked the ball up and played on.
The opposition centre forward was shouting at the referee but he hadn't seen anything, so play continued.
Classic fun with Charlie.
As a young lad I also remember him chatting to us fans behind the goal during the game.

I can't quite remember why but Charlie and Liverpools keeper Tommy Lawrence were often talked about in the same breathe. Lawrence was also known as the flying pig not sure if there was a link with that.
I see he will be commemorated on memorial day. I hope that they at the very least put his picture up before we get into the main "celebration" of those we have lost. My preference would have been holding back Charlie's celebration to the next home game, albeit a few weeks later.0 -

I remember asking him who was going to win today, when he was in goal for Tranmere in an fa cup third round tie. He rep!ied "Charlton" , which surprised me! It ended in a scoreless draw and in a cup shock we lost 4-2 in the replay on a quagmire of a pitch. Charlton swamped, I believe was the mirror headline.1 -
From that great team of the sixties, we still have Peter Reeves, Alan Campbell, Brian Kinsey, Keith Peacock and our manager Eddie Firmani; well I certainly hope so. Those were great times.

I think Charlie is the second most popular keeper in the club’s history, but it would be a stretch to say he is the second most distinguished player (and I say that as an admirer).
