I said before we signed him that I wasn’t sure he was the right fit for our system. You have to stick with him now because of the price tag. But the longer it goes without a goal the harder it will be2

Kelman is a bust3

Taking into account the league/cup/friendlies he played in for us, I can barely remember anything he’s done of any note.
To suggest that Tanto/Leaburn/TC have had bad seasons so far as well because they haven’t scored is missing the point. We know exactly what those players bring and they’ve all played a role in the performances that we’ve put out.Unless we’ve got the ball pinging around the six yard box regularly, then I don’t see what he’s going to add to our overall game.It sounds ridiculous considering how much we spent but he’d be 5th choice right now before the three aforementioned players and Matt Godden when he’s fit.3 -
He’s a bust it’s now official3

He hasn't looked good so far but it's far too early to write him off. Fans (not just ours) jump on anyone if they don't hit the ground running. I've seen stuff on twitter calling Wirtz a 'bust' because he's not looked good in TWO games. I mean come on give them a chance.
Here's some stats that show you should never write a player off this early on.
Dennis Bergkamp took 7 games to score his first Arsenal goal.
Thierry Henry took 9 games to score his first Arsenal goal.
Ian Rush took 9 games to score his first Liverpool goal.20 - Sponsored links:

I do think it’s fair to question whether he fits the way we play though, which was being mentioned before we’d even signed him2 -

In the sense that he came in, had little pre-season, and is possibly being asked to play a different role outside his natural game and won't be given much time?
Probably, yeah.4 -

But Kelman could easily come good once he settles in, like you say he took a while to get going last season and then couldn't stop scoring.1 -

I think Kelman will come good, but my view on him hasn’t changed since before we signed him. He needs to play up front with Leaburn or Godden to succeed in the championship. I think he could become a player that can be a focal point but that’s going to be later on in his contract with us as he develops3 -
Kelman doesn’t have to be a prolific scorer.£3.8m does not buy you a prolific striker in the Championship, £10m+ does. Kelman is the best we can afford, not happy with that, then have a go at the ownership for not spending like Wrexham and Birmingham. Some Charlton fans are in a bubble, we think we spent a fortune but in reality we are way below average. I reckon NJ is expecting Kelman to score about 10 goals this season, and will be delighted with that return. NJ knows he will get more goals from him if he plays a system that suits Kelman but he also knows that will lead to relegation. To compare him to Ahadme is laughable, he arrived without a breakthrough season and his touch, finishing and positioning were non existent. He did not look like a professional footballer. I’d say Kelman already has shown obvious talent and potential, it’s Charlton fans expectations of Championship football that needs to improve.14

I thought he was one of the better players last night, it was just almost every other senior player around him didn't look too bothered. Olaofe and Knibbs gave him nothing and JRC and Anderson failed to control the game in the middle. He put himself about a bit more than we've seen so far though and pounced on some half chances, he definitely looked fitter. Hopefully in a stronger team he'll look better again13

Hi all.
First time poster. I was banned from another Charlton Forum for disagreeing with the "fella" that runs it. Even got offered out in a private message.
Anyway, fitting that the Kelman & Knibbs threads are on topic for me.
I think both these players came to the club with such high expectations due to last season's stats and the subsequent price tags. That expectation is blinding some supporters in my opinion.
Looking at the bigger picture, Kelman is a confidence player. He just needs that first goal to go in (actually pretty close on a couple of occasions last night with last ditch blocks) and he'll be up and running. You could see Tanto & Knibbs encouraging him last night after each attempt. The players will know it too.
The Championship is a step-up, but personally, I think he'll take it.35 - Sponsored links:

Tanto was the one that had me worried last night, where Kelman I saw a big step up8

They said in the commentary on Saturday, that we had signed players who scored something like 60 goals and had18 assists in League One last season.
Unfortunately we are in The Championship now.0 -

I wonder if there's a way of playing with Leaburn & Kelman, the former can do that hold up job and help bring Charlie into play....2 -

You're not allowed to disagree with him. If you do, the world "fella" gets thrown at full force and you're reminded that you know nothing compared to him, lol.
Every defeat is followed with, "NJ is shit, our signings are shit, I know everything". Then your posts are deleted and you're sent a threatening PM.
Anyway, I don't want to start off by hijacking a thread. So I'll leave it there.
Kelman to score coming off the bench on Sat vs QPR 🤞6 -
