++Charlie Kelman signs on a 4 year deal++

It's not even September, lets wait until 10 + games, give him a chance. I am sure people said the same about Gooden last year early doors? Have a feeling he might get the winner against QPR Saturday, maybe wishful thinking but i still think he will be a good signing once he has settled and we create some chances.4

I've seen stuff on twitter calling Wirtz a 'bust' because he's not looked good in TWO games. I mean come on give them a chance.
Here's some stats that show you should never write a player off this early on.
Dennis Bergkamp took 7 games to score his first Arsenal goal.
Thierry Henry took 9 games to score his first Arsenal goal.
Ian Rush took 9 games to score his first Liverpool goal.I’m not saying Kelman won’t turn this around, but the fact that that list of players managed it decades ago doesn’t really enhance his chances of doing so.Let’s hope he does - no one benefits if Kelman can’t find a way to contribute.1 -
SouthLincsAddick said:Kelman doesn’t have to be a prolific scorer.£3.8m does not buy you a prolific striker in the Championship, £10m+ does. Kelman is the best we can afford, not happy with that, then have a go at the ownership for not spending like Wrexham and Birmingham. Some Charlton fans are in a bubble, we think we spent a fortune but in reality we are way below average. I reckon NJ is expecting Kelman to score about 10 goals this season, and will be delighted with that return. NJ knows he will get more goals from him if he plays a system that suits Kelman but he also knows that will lead to relegation. To compare him to Ahadme is laughable, he arrived without a breakthrough season and his touch, finishing and positioning were non existent. He did not look like a professional footballer. I’d say Kelman already has shown obvious talent and potential, it’s Charlton fans expectations of Championship football that needs to improve.3

First time poster. I was banned from another Charlton Forum for disagreeing with the "fella" that runs it. Even got offered out in a private message.
Anyway, fitting that the Kelman & Knibbs threads are on topic for me.
I think both these players came to the club with such high expectations due to last season's stats and the subsequent price tags. That expectation is blinding some supporters in my opinion.
Looking at the bigger picture, Kelman is a confidence player. He just needs that first goal to go in (actually pretty close on a couple of occasions last night with last ditch blocks) and he'll be up and running. You could see Tanto & Knibbs encouraging him last night after each attempt. The players will know it too.
The Championship is a step-up, but personally, I think he'll take it.4 -
Just taken a look back at his goals from last season, there is a finisher there. Granted a few close range but still getting in the right positions, Give him some chances or get the ball behind for him to run onto and he will score 10-15

You're not allowed to disagree with him. If you do, the world "fella" gets thrown at full force and you're reminded that you know nothing compared to him, lol.
Every defeat is followed with, "NJ is shit, our signings are shit, I know everything". Then your posts are deleted and you're sent a threatening PM.
Anyway, I don't want to start off by hijacking a thread. So I'll leave it there.
Kelman to score coming off the bench on Sat vs QPR 🤞3 -

To suggest that Tanto/Leaburn/TC have had bad seasons so far as well because they haven’t scored is missing the point. We know exactly what those players bring and they’ve all played a role in the performances that we’ve put out.Unless we’ve got the ball pinging around the six yard box regularly, then I don’t see what he’s going to add to our overall game.It sounds ridiculous considering how much we spent but he’d be 5th choice right now before the three aforementioned players and Matt Godden when he’s fit.
Much the same goes for CK, he's had absolutely naff all service, most of our play much better suits ML. If NJ is welded to his formations and tactics then CK has to adapt to depose ML, or provide an alternative to the misfiring TC

Embarrassing result ..0

I liked the touch and shot on the turn he had on the edge of the 6 yard box first half that was deflected wide.
Hes not looked up to it so far, but there’s something there so I’m hopeful he won’t be a complete dud. Needs to get a bit fitter/ more aggressive and maybe a bit of confidence / luck. Those are things that can come, unlike basic technical ability/ quality. Not comparable to ahadme so far IMO.Fingers crossed he can come good2 -

But in all 3x league games he’s played, he’s been noticeably involved. He presses and tries to get on the ball.
Kelman, unfortunately, has been completely anonymous.
And no, that’s not me “writing him off” or suggesting that it is all his fault. Just stating the fact that we’ve seen absolutely nothing from him so far.9 - Sponsored links:

Nonsense to say that TC has had a mare this season. Other fans have noticed the work he does, and the danger he creates.
The issue with Kelman in the first 2 league games, wasn't the lack of goals, but rather the lack of involvement. None of our strikers are going to score shedloads of goals this season, but they need to contribute elsewhere with their pressing, and as an outlet so that we can clear our lines. We can't afford someone who's sole job is being a good finisher. And we already have Godden anyway, whose finishing is just as good as Kelman's.
Miles brings a lot more to THIS team than Kelman as a lone striker, ditto Godden.
Kelman will improve though. Indeed after yesterday, I'm more concerned about Tanto.11 -
We bought league 1 strikers. In the Championship, they will still play like league 1 strikers, unless NJ can use them in a way that exceeds their potential.
Like others have said, it’s not NJs fault that all we could afford is L1 strikers.
It may well transpire that our signings will all do brilliantly, but if they dont, then it’s the owners who need to up their game. I still think that NJ will get it right, but we do need more strength in depth across our squad.
Way too early to say our signings are not good enough.1 -

If we had ditched Godden after only 3 starts we would not be in the championship …. Kelman showed last night what he about 3 efforts on target all deflected wide .. another night he would have had two .. his performance was good given the lack of service … he will score goals and be our leading scorer come May6

You heard it here first folks.1 -
Anyone saying Tyreece has had a dodgy start really needs to give their head a wobble! Really? My view, we are missing the experience and nous of Godden. NJ is struggling to work out his front 4 and is shifting players around. A couple of those players are not up to speed fitness wise and also stepping up a level. I think he'll stumble on a formula eventually, but might take a few more games.5

Anyone still going to argue he’s a better signing than Kone?Couple of bright moments today with runs in behind. Definitely better playing him with Leaburn. Really needs a chance to fall to him so he can get off the mark1

Showed a couple of moments with good runs today. Very few strikers are going to thrive with the service we’re currently providing.1

Didn’t do anything that concerned me this week. Made a nice run and won a free kick but didn’t get any real looks at goal.3

He's just very meh. Which is not what you want went you pay that much. Doesn't excite.3

He's fine. And to be honest Leaburn is showing that it's a structural problem than an individual one.7

You could put Kermorgant up there and he’d struggle.0 -
He’s played 168 minutes in the league, you can’t judge off that2
