Anyone still going to argue he’s a better signing than Kone?

Couple of bright moments today with runs in behind. Definitely better playing him with Leaburn. Really needs a chance to fall to him so he can get off the mark
It's far too early to call still. He needs decent service.
4 games in (not including cup), I’m not sure it’s to early any more.
    Lol
What’s funny? It’s professional football in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. You sink or swim. Strikers work off confidence, he’s not scored…
  • Needs the right partner and to play, would have him starting alongside Leaburn but doubt Jones will drop Campbell to make way.

Alternatively, a formation change to fit both but that's just as unlikely to happen.

  • Thought he looked good in the flesh today, don’t see the issue unless your carrying a need not to be proven wrong
  • I’d try him and Tanto

Thought he looked reasonable today and Tuesday.

The Kone comparison is a fair one though, whether people like it or not.  I think Kone would work well in our system, as a mobile but physical no 9.
Agreed. Kones a bastard to play against and runs all game. Kelman is a good player but we just don’t play to his strengths.

  • It’s Kone v Leaburn/Tanto, and didn’t think Kone was that wonderful today, despite the goal
  • After Wycombe games last season and today, I don't understand why so many people still think he's great and would want him in our side. If Jones is in his usual position at end today, then Kone doesn't score.
I don't recall Kelman doing much against us last season either, if that's the criteria.

Is that not a good thing? ;)
  • If he had the chances Campbell had last week and today we would have won both games .. he cant score sitting in the bench
    Totally agree
  • He is to static, makes very few runs off the ball, does not bust a gut to keep up with game or to get into the area.
  • Kone did fuck all today until Jones went up front for the last 5 minutes. Apart from try to break Jones’ nose.

Watching the highlights, he should have had an assist right at the start, when Dembele missed a sitter. And then his dummy let the ball run to Smyth for their 1st goal.
  • I thought Kone was a big physical but very limited lump today.  Wouldn't have scored if we weren't pilling forwards.  His pass to Dembele at the start was very simple, the skill in the move was before that. His dummy was ok but Apter's defending very very poor.

Kelman looks a very tidy player with a much better touch. Sadly we have bought him then not played to any of his strengths.  I still hope he comes good. It's way too early to judge.

What I don't understand is the point of Chappel so far.  Apparently he has a massive knowledge of footballers but everyone we have bought in looks like a Jones purchase to me so far.

  • Kone was alright today but had to drop so deep because any 1 on 1 with Jones he practically lost. The problem was not that Kone was brilliant it was that Kelman played for 30 mins and besides the trip in the corner from Mbengue you wouldn’t have known he was on the pitch
  • I would like us to make better use of the European and foreign markets. Lots of clubs in our leagues have picked out some gems from the Dutch league (remember JBG), Portugal, Germany, Belgium and France. You can often get much better value if we can scout effectively.
Think this will come next summer if we stay up. Maybe January if the right player was available.

To be fair, if a QPR defender had jumped over a simple clearance and left Kelman completely through on goal I'm pretty confident he would have finished it. Other than that the only real contribution I can remember from Kone today was him leaving a nasty one on Jones that the ref didn't handle
Very nice dummy for the first goal. He lost every header against Jones, but that isn’t really a fair judgement on how well he played because Jones is an absolute beast in the air. I thought he was a handful, held it up a few times when it was played to his feet and linked play well. When they went to a front 2 we couldn’t deal with them and that’s why they won the game

Kone has 2 goals in 156 minutes of championship football. Kelman has 0 in many more minutes.

Don’t want to slag Kelman off too much as I still think he will come good for us, but think it’s mental some of our fans think he’s a better signing than Kone. Kone is already a better all-round player, and has so much more potential

Kelman has played 12 more Championship minutes and his only starts have been against well established Championship teams, he just needs more time

Kelman has played 560 minutes of championship football in his career.

I’m not slagging Kelman off too much, though he has been poor so far, I still think it could turn out to be a very good signing. Just think it’s crazy people thought he was a better signing than Kone

Majority of those minutes were cameos here and there for QPR, and often utilised as a winger... bit like saying Karlan Grant played a ton of Football for us, before he went off on loan for Crawley Town. His start on the opening day of the season against Watford, was something like his second ever as a Striker at this level.
