At the risk of another grown adult accusing me of wetting the bed, which I always find strange, how long does Nathan Jones seriously get if nothing changes after any January investment?flyingkiwiDK said:January transfer window will dictate whether we stay up or not. The answer is harsh but obvious.Callumcafc said:Restart 97:03

Why Gillesphey tried to go and head the ball that was planted on Jones I have no idea. Let Lloyd deal with it and the ref probably blows up.The space he vacated was exactly where their man ended up scoring from.
Gillesphey is not fit to start at this level. Love the guy but he just isn’t.Should be the first out the door in January if it allows a replacement.9 -
Well, the result was terrible but most of the performance was decent, similar to Oxford but the goal went the other way. The last 5 minutes was crazy but a draw would have been a fair result. JRC was better than expected and we created a fair amount.
So that is me being fair. However, we are now letting in simple goals and we simply do not have an effective strike force. People comparing this to 2019 are forgetting we had a striker whose goals nearly kept us up. No sign of that at the moment.11 -
There were 3 defenders surrounding the goalscorer, on the edge of the box - he should have been blocked off or brought down.Weegie Addick said:Can’t blame the ref for us not defending after the restart from the equaliser. Kaminski should have done much better.

I was so sure the ref would blow as soon as they touched the ball for the kick off, I wasn't watching. But happened to look up as the shot was taken and it went in the net. So no idea what the team were doing.
But I think I'm fairly confident you all feel they switched off? That is just not acceptable, regardless of the ref's incompetence.5 -
Just really angry with that result/ performance. Subs far too late and unforgivable to concede that second goal. Jones needs to start taking advice from his assistants as he is starting to lose the plot. January massive in terms of transfer market and results. Need some proper quality in the team, ideally with premiership loans rather than out of contract layers.1
-
Ref was absolute shite but we just threw that away. We should have enough about us to avoid relegation but failing to register a point against Norwich and Portsmouth is shocking.
Scraping around for positives - we were marginally better than against Norwich; JRC gave a decent performance; Amari'i Bell is quality.10 -
Relative to recent games I thought we played ok.We were no worse and a little better.Conceding the goal
Is unforgivable and Kaminski must take some blame. But it’s all academic. No choice but to battle on.Certainly won’t help shift the Chelsea tickets though.3 -
I had a feeling we will beat Coventry and after today I'm very confident we will. We are Charlton and don't do things the easy way23
-
Really fucked off now, serious questions need to be asked and changes made to system or personnel (manager included?). Needs to buck up his ideas. Can’t blame injuries when we have most of the squad fit now.We are going down without the above, and it will be devastating for the club, if everytime we go up, we go straight back down.Big January needed with some serious investment.Feel good factor well and truly gone and dreading getting spanked by Coventry in a few days time.Just really upset and sad right now and losing belief quickly.5

Didn't deserve to lose tonight but we somehow managed it. Farcical comes to mind after salvaging an important point. It's going to be between us Portsmouth, Oxford and Norwich who I think are poor this season despite a bit of managers bounce. Wednesday down so it's a four team battle. Not feeling as confident as I was a few weeks ago.4

We’ve been punching above our weight all season and we’ve been found out. Most of our players are just not good enough, L1 at best ! They give 100% but if the board are honest with themselves and want success then we need 5/6 Championship level players in the Jan window to give us a fighting chance to stay up.

Terrible performance and shocking way to throw away a point.
However we are literally only halfway through the season. Not sure what everyone was expecting from this squad in a first season back in this ultra competitive league.
Really hope that Jones and the players have more bollocks and belief than some of our fans who have seemingly thrown up the white flag and accepted relegation after 23 games and 5 points off the bottom three with a game in hand.
Long way to go and whilst we need to be very active in the transfer window we can turn this bad patch around.
Portsmouth were awful, sheffield wednesday gone and there's other sides that will likely have a poor run.
We can pick up with a few results as not like we're getting smashed week in week out. Need to stay behind the players and manager. Long way to go and lots of points still there for the taking.
Grim to see people shitting themselves and crying that we're going down already. Have some back bone for Christ's sake.47 -
Shocking Performance & Result!
Coventry is massively overrated.
JRC was a big improvement on Doc.
Leaburn can’t start away games.
Campbell the only one with any pace.
Knibbs has to start, as scores goals.
Will be stunned if we don’t go down!4 -
This doesn’t feel massively different to 12 months ago IMO.DamoNorthStand said:
I mean - I can understand thinking we might have enough, or we might just stay up. But I can't what confidence can be based upon.Callumcafc said:Sickener. We were the better team and still managed to lose.
On the evidence of the last couple of weeks it’s between us, Oxford and Portsmouth for the last two relegation spots.
I’m still confident but nights like that and results like that do not help.
Norwich was a poor game. But tonight wasn’t and on another night we win, at the very least don’t lose. We have enough quality to get results (already proved) and we have a manager who has a track record of getting results.20 -
The real kick in the balls - apart from that late goal of course - is that Portsmouth were absolutely hopeless for large parts of the game. They were absolutely there for the taking. And yet we have been powder puff effective up front all game and hardly ever looked like scoring.
If we lose games like this, no-one should be in any doubt we are in serious trouble.
Shout out to Bell, who put in a superb performance considering he is probably not fully fit, and Rankin-Costello on his full debut. It is hard to see how Jones hasn't given him a start before tonight on that performance.
We're not down yet. The transfer window opens in 3 days time and gives us hope if the owners are prepared to put their hands in their pockets again. And also trust Jones to spend their money a bit more wisely than he did in the summer. And after tonight that must be the $64,000 dollar question.4 -
Game against Coventry is going to be brutal. Total carnage. But my morbid curiosity will likely keep me hooked on it. Just imagine the total and utter destruction of Charlton Athletic Football Club...CAFC_boi said:Really fucked off now, serious questions need to be asked and changes made to system or personnel (manager included?). Coventry are a different level to us. I hope you’re right, but I just can’t see it.MrBurns said:I had a feeling we will beat Coventry and after today I'm very confident we will. We are Charlton and don't do things the easy way0 -

DO THE BASICS!!! The irony!
In all honestly, this group have absolutely no belief.
It's going to take grit and bollo*ks to get us out of this mess, so they need to find some.. and fast1 -
We were a little better than against Norwich but we create absolutely nothing and just launch balls straight down the middle. Leaburn battles away for flick ons but it’s desperate stuff right now. Jones doesn’t seem to have any alternative answers which is worrying as we need something to change to get out of this rut we’re in.0

He gets the rest of the season regardless. The Red Robin said:

Blinking and changing is probably the worst thing we could do and would be a nail in the coffin rather than pulling us out of any trouble.19 -

Manager needs to look at himself. There is something not right with this team. They look as though they don’t know how to execute his game plan. I love Nathan Jones but his squad of players which he has put together are pathetic. Don’t think we will get out of this it’s just a matter of trying to get enough points to stay up. Coventry next god help us.2

We are horrible to watch and we’re definitely in a relegation battle.2

No tactical nouse, bugger all leadership and absolutely nothing creative spark.
Stark deficiencies have stuck around for months, with no change - 1-1 would have covered over cracks.
Relegation form, and losing to Relegation scrap competition only leads to …RELEGATION
Time for NJ to go11 -
Portsmouth scored from a poorly defended corner. Charlton get back in with 1 minute left of injury time. Portsmouth winner at the death that Charlton should have defended properly.A disgraceful lack of concentration and focus of the team to let a poor Portsmouth team & relegation competitor win that. Team need to have a long look at themselves at their lack of concentation at the end of the match - defence and midfield.Referee was a disgrace that constantly give decisions Portsmouth way throughout. They should have blown up for full time after the goal. It doesn't excuse the complete lack of focus at the end.Sickening that as Charlton deserved to get at least a point out of that.

Be starting JRC off the back of that17

The gameplan is give up possession and try to press and win it. Win the ball…don’t know.Brown59 said:Manager needs to look at himself. There is something not right with this team.
