The worrying thing for me is that it rings true after hearing that the Doctor left because of NJ wanting too much control etc. it all makes sense.Todds_right_hook said:I love jones. Two years ago we were outside the league 1 relegation zone by a point, or was it goal difference. Now we are moaning because we are 18th in the championship.
im worried about the rumours of falling out with players and having lost the dressing room. If that’s true, he needs to go now.
if it isn’t true, the owners need to make money available to strengthen the squad. I also think the back team staff need help, we need an experienced coach to help sort out best pieces, attacking and defending them0 -
The Doctor left....and now Doc!!1

I don’t like him and never have but he has earned the right to fuck up his success and I’m sure he’ll complete that if not this season next he will .
He won’t be our manager at the start of 27/8 season and if he is we’re in League One

With a bit of luck this is the point like last season after Bristol rovers/Crawley games when he realises the fans know more about the club then he does and he has to change his shitty pointless nothing tactics to something better. Hopefully he grows some bollcoks like he did last December and finally starts to play a bit more attacking. As it stands his football is pathetic and so is his excuses.9

Not Jones out seems pointless, somewhat ironically he's what you want in a relegation scrap, but he really needs to stop with the weird selections and changes.
We're a very limited footballing side already, Jones seems to be taking his approach to a whole new level, not just today with dropping TC back into LWB been doing it for a while now.
Dykes and Leaburn big lumps up top together, shitting the bed against 9 men, dropping kelman as he finds the net, dropping JRC after good displays, Apter banished to the 4th dimension.
Man's become a proper anti football terrorist.

As pointed out in the post you quoted though last season it was a double sucker punch of Rovers and Crawley. Maybe this and Derby are this seasons sucker punchesDamoNorthStand said:

I got egg on my face last time I called for him to leave (Crawley game) but I still think there was an element of luck to how he turned things around back then. To that point in the season we had looked clueless going forward. Ramsey picked up an injury and he was forced to turn to Small as a wing back. I've said it many times but the genuine attacking threat Small brought down the right, meant TC was given more space on the left and the middle of the pitch opened up as well. We stretched defences and the whole team was transformed.
This season we started ok with Apter on the right and TC on the left. Apter isn't as good as Small imo but he is at least a threat of sorts. As soon as Apter was out the team we started looking identical going forward to how we did in the first half of last season. Very predictable, lumping it to strikers, no way through the middle and just giving it to TC and praying. NJ has returned to the exact same tactics that were failing last season. He needs to sort this out. I said when we were playing poorly last season that I didn't think it was fair to judge the player's abilities based on performances because tactics were holding us back. The same again this season. I think those players are better than the current tactics are making them look. I feel sorry for pretty much all of them - my personal bete noir is Kelman though - good finisher but I don't see it. I just see a lazy player who can;t get into games.
I won't call for his head again just yet but I hope NJ wakes up and understands rotating players in a failing tactical system will not deliver results. I harbour concerns that in the 2 years Jones has been with us we've only seen 6 months or so of good football and the rest of the time it has been turgid, almost painful to watch. I don't think Apter is the absolute answer but he's the best option we have. Ultimately we'll need more pace in our attack than just TC or the predictability will send us down.13 -
I wouldn't call Kelman lazy, but I agree he's not good enough.
If you kick off about having transfer control and you've got a small budget and your biggest signing doesn't work, you've got a big problem.
You can't cry "poor squad" when you've taken over recruitment and it's gone badly.4 -
Fantastic post.paulsturgess said:I think there needs to be a clear and definitive showing at Leicester next week to demonstrate that the players are playing for him and he can organise and motivate them, otherwise with the series of games to follow in Feb a serious reflection needs to be had on what is best for us to approach those0 -

Regardless what happens people can surely agree that giving anyone a 5 year contract is nuts2

I'm 60 in two months, brought up on the above.Look at forest on their third manager this season. Frank is likely gone at spurs in less than a season, Manning at Norwich. It’s a huge financial risk to give someone that long a contract1 -
IF he gets sacked he won't get paid out all 5 years, he'll get a pre agreed amount. The 5 year element more protected us if someone tried to poach him8

I've been trying to work out why I'm not Jones out since the 80th minute and it's tricky but it's largely gut feel.
There are two ways I am thinking about today's game. 1) The emotional one, the players weren't up for a derby of this magnitude. 2) The rational one, Millwall are a promotion chasing side who have been in this division for nearly a decade, whereas our aim is 21st.
Of course option 1 is partly up to Jones but option 2 is winning for now. There is no escaping that we've been poor. Recruitment has been below the required standard and injuries have hampered our season. I think most would struggle to argue against the fact that our strongest XI stays up comfortably, even a side with 20% less injuries probably does. When we have balance in our side we look like a side who competes at Championship level. Look at Coventry away before Bell got injured.
The obvious issue is that our best signing (Bell) is incredibly injury prone, if he wasn't we couldn't afford him. Clarke also looks quality but his injury record is suspect too.
Jones isn't scared to change things, regardless of what most say. We tried two attacking wing backs against Southampton, we tried a box midfield at Wrexham and we've changed formation countless times in matches. That's just off the top of my head. I know the prevailing feeling is he doesn't change it enough but we've barely played an unchanged side recently.
I don't know what I'd do if I were him. Performances aren't good enough so players need to come out but you also can't keep chopping and changing each week, players cannot build relationships or confidence that way.
Ultimately, what is keeping me pro Jones is the turnaround last year, the dearth of available candidates and the timing. It just doesn't make sense to sack a manager now, you do it in December or closer to the end of the season if you can get 3 wins to keep you safe with a new manager bounce.
I don't think Jones is the messiah. He will (and has) make plenty of mistakes. I also think he has the ability to turn us around. The side just needs balance, a good LCB and a good midfielder transform this team. We saw the benefit of having a LWB for most of the first half even though he was missing match practice. We still very much have our future in our hands and that is largely because of Jones' management earlier in the season.12 -
give it Curbs til end of t'season

Jones has a style of football which when it’s winning games of football people will accept as pragmatic and smart.
The difficulty is when you’re losing games and not looking defensively solid, it’s an awful watch and void of fluidity and attacking options.
What he has failed to do (with some mitigating circumstances) is build on the solid foundation of that shape and start implementing some attacking movement and style which is surely the next step. So now we are left with a side which has lost its defensive structure but has no means to score goals or keep any sustained pressure on other teams. A recipe for disaster, which is unfolding before our eyes.
I thought Jones was the man for the job long term, but the weird line ups and turgid displays of the last few weeks make me wonder if he doesn’t have the ability or is too stubborn to see the changes needed.
There must be some anger from the board around the money squandered in the summer.6 -
I'm not Jones out at presant.
However if we were to have a chance of staying up his signings needed to work. To have 2 of them in Tanto and Apter barley in the 20 matchday squad is a disgrace. Not because I want them to play, but to spend money and not then even use those signings before the next window has even closed is incredibly poor decision making on Jones part8 -
Really hope that wasn't 5 years up front, we'll end up selling mbick just to pay him offAberystwythAddick said:Regardless what happens people can surely agree that giving anyone a 5 year contract is nuts0 -

His comment about how he'd had a worse day than the fans yesterday sums the bloke up. Unhealthy ego on him

Plenty of good managers have failed at Stoke. And with us he’s currently 18th in the championship, and if he keeps us up then he’s done a brilliant job here at this level3 -
All Managers are judged on results. Our results make pitiful reading. Won two out of last
fifteen. That would get a lot of managers sacked. I would love Jones to prove me wrong. I have no desire to be playing League One football next season. But that is where we are heading under Jones.4 -

Is he really that wrong though... The fans have turned on him, Millwall fans were goading him, we lost again and even Rodwell looked furious at him, if he's lost the dressing room that's even worse... For us it was just another loss to the dirty fuckers up the road. We hate it, but it's happened so many times even under our best managers... Why would it change yesterday?Croydon said:His comment about how he'd had a worse day than the fans yesterday sums the bloke up. Unhealthy ego on him3 -
