Just to clarify a point.Macronate said:They had Daniel Day Lewis and Gary Oldman in the crowd. Why the fuck didn’t we have Karl Howman and Bjorn Borg giving it back?
Daniel Day Lewis went to Invicta, Sherrington and to Charlton with me until he was 10 when he moved away.
How the fuck he ended up 'millwall through and through' is a mystery to me.10 -
Not only is the next 10 days crucial for the club, that also counts for Nathan imo.
I can only hope between them they have a cunning plan to get us out of the mire that we are currently blindly heading for…🤞0 -

From Oz's post above.
The penalty is another one that pisses me off, none of our players follow in with any conviction, there are 5 Millwall players following up ahead of our lot. Some of ours were walking into the area.
I actually had a premonition thought at the penalty. Should Kaminski save it, we'll probably arrive second for the rebound - even that proved to be optimistic - we didn't even get a place on the rostrum.6 -
Jones doesn't seem to know there's 2 sets of goalposts on a pitch, if you can score goals you can possibly win, his theory is defend and hope to score one.
He does what most managers do employ yes men on his staff, but he goes further by buying his old players that might have been ok players 6 years ago,to help him gain a majority in the dressing room, the ones he falls out with are not them! I also think the defenders have lost confidence in the keeper . One of Jones mates Burke comes on as a sub and immediately at fault for 2 goals. His other mate set ball specialist, what a joke that is, we hardly get in the aponents half to get a free kick. You have to shoot to score a goal,we never have a shot, was it 1 or 3 shots Saturday. I think he destroyed players confidence, some where good players when we bought them,he's a nervous wreck and it rubs of on the players.Jones is not a good coach or man management its all about himself .10 -

I was born in Lewisham. When I started going to football I had to make a choice between Millwall and Charlton. I chose Charlton. After games like yesterday's and virtually every one against Millwall where we had no fight and just roll over to them I wonder if I made the right decision. Then I see that one of our supporters was slashed after the game and I realise that I made tge right choice. As for the players yesterday they should have been made to make their own way back after the game dressed in their training kit.1

Great post Queenie and i recall the same. We will get a couple of loanies in, one from Luton and one from Gillingham, who both haven't played for 6 months.queensland_addick said:
From memory it was Carter who said "we could spend 10 million on a player", but we don't want to.jimmymelrose said:
Not the owners but Rodwell. They said it as much on the interview. They don’t want to spend big because they think it will cause disharmony. Meanwhile Wrexham spend big and don’t appeared unsettled by it.kentred2 said:The owners have let Jones and the fans down.Signings either walking wounded or league one standard at best.
Who’s ’taking a risk.’?
So what's the alternative then? a relegation that could cost us 3 or 4 times more, over numerous seasons back in League One.
If a top player was to come into the side, earning a huge salary, are the other players really going to be that upset, if that player is then largely responsible for keeping us up ?
I just don't see the logic. If staying in the Division requires spending large sums, and our owners can afford it, then do what is required.
Another relegation for our club could be catastrophic.
That's the great heights we are currently aiming for.2 -
How did we get on, I’m still on the Woolwich road trying to get back to Charlton station after the home game

I dont know if it is normal for someone in their 80s with over 70 years experience of supporting Charlton,to have a sleepless night over one result. But I confess it happened last night.
Firstly, yes the better team won,but I do feel that we are due a little bit of luck,we conceded on tuesday to a dead unlucky own goal, and what looked like a shot into the ground for the second.
Today, their 1st was offside,Kaminski did what he always does and palms everything out back into play,he should have held that or pushed it away from goal, anything but what he did.
Second goal,Cooper has got 2 of our players in a bear hug, clear foul, ref right next to it.
Third goal, was it a penalty, not so sure seeing replays, but nevertheless, piss poor effort after initial penalty stopped, they charged forward,we stood still.
Fourth goal, what is Ramsey doing standing on the penalty spot, when his man is 10 yards behind him waiting for the ball unmarked, which is then very kindly laid on a plate by an appalling attempt to head the ball away.
Why was Dykes pulled up,if anything their guy committed the foal, possible red card, not concerned it was a dissallowed goal as play had been stopped, but we are not getting any luck, and when you are down you need it.
None of this papers over the cracks, but you never know what just a little rub of the green can do,players can get a lift ,a goal goes in off someones arse and we scrape a 1-0 somewhere.a season can change just like that.
Obviously our left side is a problem, but it is difficult,we have two good left sided players out, probably on good money,if we replaced them with similar level players,we will then have 4 players when they are all fit,a good position, but can the club afford these sort of wages,we have the same elsewhere,Doc,Apter,Knibbs, all not playing but needing to be paid,we know we need a play maker, but can we afford it,how much more money will our owners shell out.

That experience exists for me on two levels.
The first is, why is it, regardless of players and manager, Charlton Athletic continues to get pumped in this fixture. Yesterday was not even the worst 4-0 I have witnessed at that place in recent memory. I thought Jones would be the one to at last give us some fight, but not to be. This happens so often it is beyond co-incidence.
The second is about the current set up. I don't think changing the manager is right, and Jones is just the type you would want in a relegation fight. But he has to change - can you imagine the arc, from boring to figure of fun, it must feel for the players being told day in day out to be front footed and the best versions of themselves. Tolerable when winning, but after 4 months of losing and playing awful football in a rigid formation he looks ridiculous. We appear to have neither the players or depth for his preferred system or an alternative; but we need to find an alternative. I'm guessing that has to be full on low block, pack the midfield a la Curbs stop the rot, or a version of four at the back that allows us to get two of Apter, TC and Fullah on the pitch at the same time (although yesterday showed the danger of blooding Fullah in a spiralling team.) We need something else in midfield - some proper guile. Sam Field has been mentioned.
If we keep plugging away hoping it will click, we go down and I don't know whether or when the club comes back from a fourth spell this century at third division level. There are better things for people to do in South East London (including watching Millwall!!) and the evidence is we will only attract owners who are frauds or those who do not have the stomach, tenacity or preparedness to invest at levels beyond what for them is a fun side punt.5 -
Forget about a broadside from a Dreadnought, anyone got a life raft?2

I’ve believed all season we would stay up, even during our recent run of form. However, yesterday was a real watershed moment. If we carry on like this, we are almost certainly down.
if the rumours of NJ losing the dressing room are true, then his post match comments yesterday will have guaranteed that. Not that I disagree with anything he said.
i still think NJ is the right man for the job, but as everyone has said, we can’t just keep doing the same thing over and over again.
In saying that, some of the individual decision making from players is truly baffling and that cannot just be down to NJ. If you are told to play it long, don’t aim for TC to win a header. If you are told to play from the back, don’t give it to the player with back to play who you can see is about to be closed down by two players. Don’t just stand there and let players deliver cross after cross. Don’t just automatically play backwards when receiving the ball in the midfield when you have space to turn and go forward. You can say it’s a lack of confidence, poor coaching, poor tactics, whatever, but these are all basic things. No one is asking these players to become world beaters. Just stop making terrible decision after terrible decision and show some fight. This week is massive for our season. The owners need to show they are serious about staying in the championship, NJ needs to show he can pick this team up from rock bottom and these players need to show they have the character for this fight. Otherwise, we all know how this ends.8 -
We really need to get a tune out of the squad we have, I can’t see any signings of the quality we need coming in. Does anyone think Jones can again before the end of this season? I can’t see it, we are devoid of any ability to create even a handful of chances.
I believe we need to make a change now, getting relegated will be a disaster, Jones is just too arrogant to change anything and falling out with your captain is not a good look. I don’t think Docherty has been great but we needed a player like him on the pitch yesterday.I think someone could get these players fighting and using their abilities to the benefit of the team rather than just forcing them into this rigid awful system he’s stuck on. And what the hell is Hylton bringing to the table, our set pieces are shocking and if we’re going to play this negative system set pieces are our main opportunity to actually score.10 -
A positive after the dust has settled. We're still in a good position in the league compared to the teams below us. Look forward now. It's in our hands.3

We are joint 5th in the championship for set piece goals scored this season. And joint 2nd best for least amount conceded from set pieces. Danny Hylton is far from the problem hereNug said:We really need to get a tune out of the squad we have, I can’t see any signings of the quality we need coming in. Still feeling downtrodden and pissed off with the lot of them after that result but we have to move on, if we see the same offenders over the last few months and bollocks tactics from Nathan against Leicester, he's got to go. There are 1000s of variables to set your side up and we pick the least attractive method to watch, not saying I expect these players to turn into 2009 Barcelona, but we as fans should see more entertainment and attacking intent than we do. That firmly lies at Nathan's door

Truly shocking.I doubt there are many Charlton fans amongst our players but they would all have to be living under rocks not to fully understand what that game meant to all true Charlton fans. Their performance was an insult to all Charlton fans, not least the 3,000 who were there. Millwall were and are on a different level to us, and that can be accepted (grudgingly) but what is not acceptable is no fight, no passion, no team spirit, no desire, confusion, and unbelievable tactics and game management from Jones. There is not a single positive to be taken from that performance and in particular I do not want to see Gillesphey ot Ramsay in a Charlton shirt ever again. The blame lies with the players and Jones - no excuses are valid or justified. They can all just fuck off.P.S. In our experience there were no issues getting to or away from the ground - both sets of fans were mixing, bit of friendly banter, had a quick pint after the game and then walked straight to the station and waited 5 minutes to get on to the platform. Both sets of fans on the platform and again very friendly. The Police we chatted to were also polite, courteous and friendly.18

I think we can see why we don’t go 4-4-2 to fragile error strewn defenders0
-
12 points off playoffs, 3 off relegation spots... This is a weird league. We have a chance of staying up because the league outside of the top 5 is very inconsistent. In order to stay up though we need to build, firstly clean sheets and then converting to wins.0

It might be worth addressing this 'Jones has lost the dressing room' rumour. I have to say that even with the obvious lack of left sided wing back/defenders, some of the performances have been shocking since November. I am always of the opinion that a manager places more of his future into the club than a player simply because of length of contract and the availability of positions open to that manager should he leave. That said, I have seen some managers who you you knew had run out of ideas, Eddie Firmani, Theo Foley, Andy Nelson, Alan Pardew, there has been many since then who didn't have an idea when they started. I think there is a bigger problem, as been mentioned by other posters, it's recruitment and the belief that certain players would make the step up, if Luke Berry, Jerome Rousillon Macaulay Gillesphey are making your first team squad then you have a serious problem, I haven't even got to players who needed to be taken out of the firing line, such as Coventry, Ramsay and Carey. 29 players in the squad, not many, maybe 7 or 8 are good enough, if Jones has lost the dressing room then there are plenty of options to quell that revolution, get rid of those who clearly not good enough.1

So next morning had time to calm down………, NOPE!!!! Still fuming at that shitshow yesterday!!, part of me hopes there is something going on behind the scenes that’s causing the shit performances, if there isn’t then I’m more concerned going forward because that means we are genuinely up shit creek without a paddle unless some really good business happens this week, and I just don’t see that happening.0

Opta The Analyst website has the data. We’ve scored 11 from them and only conceded 5. Would guess we get a lot less attacking set pieces than most teams and end up defending more than most too. Statistically we are one of the best in the league at set pieces1 -
At the start of the season, we played Millwall and Leicester and we looked pretty good and were unlucky not to win both. Now we play them and get absolutely battered, barely even mustering a single shot. Leicester next weekend will be the same. A comfortable win for them where we barely threaten. Even more sobering as Oxford have just gone there and got a result. I know we had momentum at first but we have regressed so much through the season.
Did Chambers come off at HT because he isn’t match fit? We were miles better first half and TC was causing a bit of trouble for their defence. As soon as he got moved to LWB we were a different side, could barely get out our own half and they scored an offside goal and Jones had to quickly change things up.The reality is this is a solid league one squad that is struggling in the championship. Some players are clearly struggling more than others. I love Macca for last season and I hate seeing him getting abused but he’s clearly too slow for the league. Jones signing an injury prone defender as his replacement was far from ideal but we have got very unlucky with the Edwards injury who we’ve just never replaced as Macca would look a lot more solid next to Josh3 -
Fair enough, I take it back Hylton is a master. Shame we’re still scrapping at the bottom and dropping like a stone right now. As others have said games in February probably decide our fate certainly the games against those around us.NabySarr said:Nug said:

Ramsay's form has dropped off a cliff.
He used to make last ditch goal saving tackles.
Now he is often at fault for any we let in.5
