Conor Coady Signs On Loan From Wrexham
Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Conor Coady on loan from Wrexham AFC.
The 32-year-old defender, who joins until the end of the 2025/26 season, brings a wealth of experience to the Addicks' ranks having represented England at international level and spent the majority of his playing career in English football's top two tiers.
Coady becomes the Addicks’ sixth signing of the window following the arrivals of Harry Clarke, Lyndon Dykes, Luke Chambers, Tiernan Brooks and Jayden Fevrier.
Managing Director James Rodwell commented: "We’re really pleased to sign Conor. He’s an excellent defender who brings vast experience from the top two tiers of English football. He’s also a strong leader and a fantastic character."
Manager Nathan Jones added: "We're delighted to add Conor. He is a player of immense experience and someone who has played at the highest level and played for his country. His leadership and his qualities are something we feel we needed at this time. At this point, we really felt we could utilise his leadership going into the last 18 games."
After putting pen to paper, Coady said: "I'm absolutely over the moon. I'm super excited to play in front of the supporters and get going. When I got the opportunity to come to this football club, it filled me with excitement. You want to be part of football clubs like this it's a huge club and I can’t wait for the first game."
Born and raised in Liverpool, Coady progressed through the Liverpool academy, and was first loaned to Sheffield United ahead of the 2013/14 campaign, when he played 50 games in all competitions for the then-League One club.
The centre-back joined Huddersfield Town on a permanent deal in August 2014 and played 48 times for the Terriers, before securing a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2015.
The defender spent eight highly successful years at Wolves, captaining the club and making 317 appearances. Throughout his time at Wolves as club captain, the team secured the Sky Bet Championship title, achieved promotion to the Premier League and qualified for the Europa League. He played every minute of the club’s 2019/20 Europa League campaign, helping them reach the quarter-finals.
During his time in the Premier League with Wolves, Coady earned 10 caps for England. Towards the end of his spell at Molineux, he spent the 2022/23 season on loan at fellow Premier League side Everton.
Coady subsequently left Wolves in July 2024 to sign for Leicester City, playing a key role in helping the Foxes lift the Sky Bet Championship title in his first season at the King Power Stadium.
During his time with the Foxes, Coady made 43 appearances before joining Wrexham ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Welcome to the club Conor... Lets hope you're more Andy Hughes than Harry Arter16

Surprised he managed to look so energetic in the promo shoot stuff considering how much his legs have gone.27

Come out the blue that one45

Our defence has looked poor for a while, an old head and experience. Not one to shout about, however it could be a crucial signing as long as he has people around him to cover, always organised defences well in the past so hopefully he can help.10

Alou Diarra is what I'm hoping personallyForeverAddickted said:Welcome to the club Conor... Lets hope you're more Andy Hughes than Harry Arter17 -
Note the piece doesn’t mention his time at Wrexham, wonder why?4

4th defender of the window (if we assume Fevrier will be a WB). Jones setting his stall, for better or worse.0

33 before the end of Feb and his 25k(?)contract at Wrexham runs until summer '27
Hopefully he's coming here with a point to prove after being bombed out by Wrexham after 6 appearances to show he still has something to offer at this level as well as dressing room bants.... and not for a bit of a kick about counting down the days until retirement.
His expierence is something.2 -
Interested to see in what position he lines up in defence. Right footed and known to play in the centre of a back 3Coady started the first 5 League games for Wrexham this season but bar a League Cup game v Cardiff City, has not played any more minutes for the side from North Wales0

Feel one way or another, this is going to be the most impacting of all the signings so far.successful - we have a great chance of staying up
flops - we are toast
No doubting his achievements but there’s clear uncertainty of his ability still to perform at this level. We will soon find out18 -

I hope I'm wrong, but having watched him for Wrexham earlier in the season, I've got a feeling this signing will be a punchline in a few years time.1

Welcome Conor Sloady…
seriously though, could be a great signing and looking fwd to see what he’s about2 -
He's only 32 (nearly 33)
His lack of pace is relative to what he had before. This could, as a few have said be a brilliant bit of business, or could not work out. Let's hope for the best2 -
Am I allowed to say I’m underwhelmed with the transfer dealings this week5

His experience could be invaluable. Reminds me of other times we have brought in similar experience with the likes of Cliff Holton, Ray Crawford, Leighton Phillips and Terry Naylor, all of whom contributed to the cause and were either around the same age as Coady, or even older.6

Please don’t be shit 🙏🏻
Thank you.14 -
We used the word "leadership" 3 times in the press release. I think that is why he was brought here rather than his playing ability.
When you've lost the dressing room the best way to get it back is to find another leader who agrees with you.6 -
Can anyone enlighten me as to whether he’s got the legs for the run in1

We shall see.0

Plenty of experience ... new captain in place of ... ?0

I expected to see leadership everywhere in the announcement bit and wasn't disappointed.
This feels like a coin flip of a signing.1 -
Was gonna say it looks like he's writhing in agony in that photo, rather than signing for the 4th biggest club in London and all it's domainsFishCostaFortune said:Surprised he managed to look so energetic in the promo shoot stuff considering how much his legs have gone.2 -

I’m hoping he’ll be good, but based on the games I saw him play for Wrexham earlier in the season + comments from Wrexham and Leicester fans, I’m fully expecting him to be toilet.2

Quite a few of our freakshow fans are besotted by Wrexham, so I’m sure they know how good bad or ugly this fella is !

Every time the BBC publish a story about Wrexham, all the top comments are 'wow what an amazing story, they're doing it all the right way and making everyone else jealous', it's absolutely sickening, I hope they go out of business tbhoohaahmortimer said:Quite a few of our freakshow fans are besotted by Wrexham, so I’m sure they know how good bad or ugly this fella is !10 -
