Conor Coady Signs On Loan From Wrexham

I don't expect Coady will play as CDM every game. It was a surprise to me that he olayed there at all as I wasn't aware in his early career he played CDM over 100 times (144 was mentioned by someone).
However in games where we play 2 wingbacks ans 2 up front to start, seems to work aas an option particularly if Coventry has a knock.
Also means Lloyd Jones and Coady can play at the same time as each other when we have a back 5.Fair play to Jones for identifying this as an option.6 -
He started his career as a CDM and was moved further back by Wolves when they started to play a back 3RugbyAddick said:Had a solid game. Many were sceptical about this one but his experience will only be a good thing.Thought it was odd that he played CDM. Only Nathan Jones would play a 32yo who has played CB all his career, out of position. Worked today, but will it against 11 men for 90 mins? Who knows.9 -
That's an interesting one. Although there is a couple of years between them, Lloyd Jones played with Coady in the same Liverpool U21 side. It's quite possible that Coady was a CDM at that time so Lloyd might have had some input re Coady's versatility.fenaddick said:

Coady played CDM at the start of his career before switching to centre half.RugbyAddick said:Had a solid game. He played yesterday because Coventry is carrying an injury.0 -
Wondering if he will drop back for QPR to allow Lloyd to rest his ankle?0

Lloyd might not need to rest it.DamoNorthStand said:Wondering if he will drop back for QPR to allow Lloyd to rest his ankle?0 -
Did they? I thought Coady said Lloyd was two years behind him.Addick Addict said:

We played Jones last season with a fractured tibia, played him through illness at Brum, injury at Wrexham/Millwall/Derby. Only chance he doesn’t play if his ankle physically detatches from his bodyDamoNorthStand said:Wondering if he will drop back for QPR to allow Lloyd to rest his ankle?4 -

I retain way too much useless information because I remember my reaction to seeing Coady at CB for the first time for Wolves and thinking no way that will work, he’s a midfielder.2

Not really . Let’s see how it pans out for the rest of the season - Leicester were really bad and had ten men for a lot of the game . Other teams will give him no time on the ball whatsoever . But he did a good job on Saturday - fair play .RugbyAddick said:fenaddick said:

I said that there was a couple of years between them but Coady confirms they played together here:LargeAddick said:

They are both named in Liverpool's U21 squad in 2012:

This extract explains that Jones took over the captaincy of the U21s when Coady was sent out on loan:Jones was moved into the Under 18s squad for the 2012-13 season was also named in the youth squad to take part in the season's NextGen Series. The season proved a breakthrough for Jones who's acclaimed displays for the U18s and U19s in the NextGen Series brought him to the attention of the U21s. With slots opening up at centre back due to injury to Jakub Sokolik and the promotion of Andre Wisdom to the first team, Jones was brought into the fold for the U21s in the new year and played a number of games for the side, impressing throughout the season.
Jones' form brought him a place on the substitute's bench for the senior squad in an away League tie against Fulham on 12 May 2013. He was handed shirt number 51 for the occasion. At the end of the season, Jones signed his first professional contract with Liverpool. Jones appeared more times than any other player for the U21s during the 2013-14 season, competing in 21 of the team's 22 games. With Conor Coady away on loan, Jones eventually became entrusted with the captaincy of the U21s.

It definitely worked playing Caody there but it was a bit easy given the game circumstances. Still we need to chalk that down as a very good debut.2

It can sometimes work with midfielders though. I remember City having to play Fernandinho there one year. Fabinho did it for Liverpool. Vincent Kompany played some of his early City career as a DM.Callumcafc said:I retain way too much useless information because I remember my reaction to seeing Coady at CB for the first time for Wolves and thinking no way that will work, he’s a midfielder.
Even yesterday, Spurs looked miles better when Palhinha was moved to CB.0 -
For us Alou Diarra was incredible at centre back and Pratley didn't do badly at all when he was forced to play there, especially given he was sometimes partnered with Chris GunterChris_from_Sidcup said:

Mascherano was originally a CDM but spent his time at Barca as a CB. Many such cases.0
