Disappointing result but a decent performance against a better quality of opponent.
Gave them too much respect for first 80 mins ans shame we didn't play with the same attacking self belief of last 10 minutes thw whole game.
Mannion should've worn a cap as i sit right begind goal and couldn't see a thing first half without shielding my eyes.
Dykes deserves a longer contract as works his bollocks off and puts body on the line every single game.
How the clown linesman and circus referee missed or bottled the rugby tackle on Jones was beyond me.
Another win or two and we'll be up here next season hopefully with more quality in the squad to allow us to do more in the middle and final third.
Onwards and upwards.6 -
We lost because again we conceded first and softly. Didn’t get going quick enough after that.2
-
What can you do when the ref ignores a certain penalty? Norwich clearly a more skilful team but we deserved the 1-1 that it should have been.4

I'm not sure we will. Recruitment last summer didn't depend on which league we would be in. Jones said they had their targets before the the end of the season - and it's been said that those league one players a la Kelman, Apter etc. were for the long term.MuttleyCAFC said:I think we will play diffrently next season. This season is a transformation one and all about staying up.
I think we'll see outgoings and I'd like some of them to be more of what we perceive to be league one standard players, but I don't see it happening and I don't see a massive change in the style of play next season.
I'm not necessarily saying that's a bad thing, but under Jones, defence will always come first and that severely limits us going forwards and creating tons of chances.4 -
Mate come on....he was crap today. Walking back, looking non plussed apart from the last 15.JoshAddick said:The scapegoating of TC is an absolute disgrace. During ‘academy week’ aswell.
Chants of ‘fucking useless’ and ‘he’s fucking shit’, whilst also getting booed when he wasn’t subbed, and jeered when he was subbed. It’s embarrassing.
This is a lad who joined our academy at the age of 8 and has stayed with us throughout, massively contributing to our promotion last season. Give your head a wobble if you’re one of the ones giving him stick week in week out
He needs time out the team and then come on to make the difference and get some confidence.
I don't join in with chants like that but he just wasnt good and hasn't been for a few games and it's okay to see that, it's not scapegoating6 -
Add to that his first full season at this level. I get the frustrations around areas of his game but the abuse is disgraceful! No wonder he doesn’t celebrate with the fans when he scores, I wouldn’t.JoshAddick said:The scapegoating of TC is an absolute disgrace. During ‘academy week’ aswell.

We deserved a point in my opinion, the obvious penalty being ignored was a disgrace, we are often told how vast the Championship is these days but the refereeing decisions are still being made by 'referees' who are no better than park level and their appalling decisions are free of VAR corection, 9 times out of 10 that gets awarded in the Premier League. I'm no fan of said 'innovation' but we need to have the same checks and balances as the Premier League throughout the EFL.
Moronic referees like today's 'official' need to be overruled when things like that happen.
To add insult to injury I had to endure the puerile ramblings of a spanner on the journey home, the same perfect example of cliched spanner that we know and loathe. At least he lost his bet and missed out on £600- well done Wrexham for wrecking it for him. Hopefully Middlesbrough will do similar to his team.
The better part of today is that the gap is the same and the games are running out fast. Time to regroup and prepare to get over the line against Bristol City! COYA!!!

You have to ask NJ
- Why was Campbell picked
- Why did you not change the system after 20 mins when it was clear they outnumbered us in mid , the number 25 had a free afternoon without anyone getting near him..
- still no changes at ht
- Changes to late and Campbell staying on think Jones was peeved off with the crowd who booed the subs ..
- why was it 83 mins before we brought on our only striker ……
think he badly got it wrong today tough going first half , Carey has to have a look at himself for the goal completely let his man get away and chambers left with two … second half was better we put them under some pressure but lack of decent crossing and bit of luck it just did not happen .. but we should have had a pen when Jones arm was pulled away .. so in the end we could have got a draw our second effort would have warranted.. but Campbell !!! Enough is enough said Should not even be in the squad and sold at the end of the season13 -

That game was a bit frustrating. It wasn't bad to watch, but I think we all know how tough it is for us to actually score goals. Our game relies on those small margins, and it would really help us if Doc, Coventry, Clarke, Chambers, and Ramsay could finally move from that big fat zero in the goals column.2

They scored early and didn't get out of second gear, but neither did we. Felt like we could have won a point at least, especially in the last 10 minutes, but some poor performances and poor substitutions cost us. Dykes was not in the game, why did he stay on so long? TC was woeful for 60 minutes, then good for 10 minutes, then subbed off. And in the first half, most promising moves broke down around Docherty, who was still on the pitch when the final whistle was blown.
At the end of the day, does today matter? Hopefully not. But please God, can we improve our central midfield next season...

Carey hasn’t just chipped in, he has practically kept us up!cabbles said:A game that highlights our attacking limitations.Norwich are very comfortable on the ball and they move it around quickly. That’s what we need to work on if we’re not going to have another huff and puff season scrapping at the bottom. The midfield three got overrun and the lack of pace in there needs addressing next season. Doc & Coventry work hard, and Carey has chipped in with a good return of goals, but we need to strengthen in this position in the summer.Campbell had a very poor game and as the season has gone on, I think he’s finding it harder and harder to make the step up. I think he’s worth keeping around next year, but he’s a sub at best.2 week break now. Be a good chance for some of the players to get a rest and hopefully get right up for Bristol City. We need this final win as soon as possible4 -
Looks blatant from that decision, but there was a better angle on replay, and the pull on his arm is a bit soft.I'd be giving the penalty, because the Defender doesnt need to have his arm on him at all, and wasn't one of those where Jones had a handful of the opposition to rule out any decision for the Referee to make - But I'd possibly be a little miffed if it was given against us.4

@RonnieMoore for future reference, if you turn your phone so it's landscape rather than portrait, you should see the "ordered list" option, that lets you do numbered bullet points rather than squishing them up in one paragraph like that

Agree, and to cap it all Brownie actually agreed with the ref when he said "there wasn't enough force to warrant a pen" whatever the fu*k that means...🤦♂️CAFCsayer said:1 -
Started the match 9 points clear with 8 to play. Ended 9 clear with 7 to play. Our goal difference is better than the teams between us & the relegation zone (Pompey, West Brom & Blackburn) too.

Not a chance I will be renewing ST.
Zero entertainment, no flair, no creativity, no goals and no idea. Sure we will stay up, however who wants to watch another season of that rubbish? Lump it, head it, diag it.
Love to know how often we string 10 passes together. Not one player to get excited about. No strikers no runners, no dribblers. It is like watching a brand of football from the dark ages. Not for me.
Btw- How many goals have refs scored against us?14 -

FWIW I’d not be surprised if he’s had his head turned and he’s off in the summer.0 -
Confirmation in NJ’s interview that last weekend’s penalty for Oxford was not a penalty.7

Bit gutted with the outcome, we warranted a point but just didn’t have that cutting edge. Despite the result it was a nice day watching us play a match in the Championship with fairly limited jeopardy. Some turn around since Nathan came in, I’m grateful for all of that.10

Frustrating. Yes they're better footballers - could have had a couple more - except they didn't.
We didn't score, but should have with a couple of gilt edged chances. A goal for us would've been a sucker blow for them, but put us 10 points clear - a huge psychological advantage over the relegation contenders - pushing them from a three game catch up to four.
Oh well this is Charlton and it ain't gonna be straightforward (he says wearily
).

I like Dykes but I felt that he was running half empty today. Probably not fully over last weeks illness that kept him out of the Oxford match. TC as the other forward doesn't work. He doesn't like the spotlight on him as we know. When he moved back in the second half he was better. Mannion had a great game. If you're going to play someone along side Dykes it has to be Kelman who has shown that he can create a goal in a crowded area.4

Some good Q's there from Charlotte... Surprised she was so direct asking about Kelman's absense from the starting eleven, and is understandable we kind of got a vague answerfenaddick said:6 -
He was running on half empty because he was doing ALL the running whilst his strike partner strolled around.MikeBaileysFanClub said:I like Dykes but I felt that he was running half empty today. Norwich were better, but we played well and missed a few chances, not forgetting the penalty we should have had.
I do question why NJ sticks with picking TC at the start. He is neither a forward or a wing back and he seems incapable of being a nuisance when not in possession.
We need to give Charlie more game time in my view.
We need 5 more points in my view and hopefully the club can then plan for next season3 -
Sorry but I'm sure the Academy taught him to tackle, pass to another player and cross the ball above ground level.JoshAddick said:The scapegoating of TC is an absolute disgrace. During ‘academy week’ aswell.

This seems to have been drilled out of him by the coaching staff.
There are better players in the under 18s and 21s.5 -
Well…. It was a sunny day3

Spot on!ThrappersAddick said:I don't hate on TC and there is an irrational hatred of him in parts of the stand around me, but it's clear he is not a striker and I do t understand why Jones persists with trying to make him one. When he moved out to left in the second half with Leaburn up front he was instantly more comfortable and looked better. I think it's one of those where we either change our play to accommodate wingers like TC and Apter, or we shift them on.We have some good players, we just dont play them to their best position2 -
'we tried to sign the same player as them in the window and they blew us out the water'. Wonder who that was.fenaddick said:2
