Are we though? 5 games left and only 8 points from safety. Im not 100% confident yet. We lose on saturday and a couple teams below us win, the momentum swings and we could easily be pulled back in.Chris_from_Sidcup said:Given that we are practically safe now i'd like to see Carey rested and Knibbs or even Fullah get a run out in his position.
Carey has been great this season and i'd have him in my top 3 for POTY, but no one has played more games than him and he must be knackered.
I agree we are in a good place but think we need one more win, lets not count our chickens.2 -
Sonny Carey has an uncanny knack of choosing the wrong option. Shoots when he should pass and vice versa. Decent player and we would be lost without his goals.0
-
in our list of squad problems, Sonny Carey is way down that list.
been immense in his first championship season for us and without his goals we'd be screwed. Yes he's still learning but he'll get better I'm sure.
as I stated previously my guess is he was originally bought in as a back up to (first choice) Knibbs, but it hasn't worked out that way and he's probably played way more than Jones originally planned for him to - I don't know that obviously, but it's my hunch.
definitely needs a box to box midfielder alongside him5 -
Only 8 points in 5 games that’s asking an Oxford side who couldn’t beat a 10 man Pompey for 80 mins and a Leicester side that couldn’t beat Sheffield Wednesday side to hit playoff form.Radostanradical said:

You’re also asking a Pompey side with 3 points in 8 to have to win half their games 3/6 which includes Boro Coventry and Ipswich. All of that and that’s without us nicking a single point again this season against a Preston side with 2 wins in 15 (neither away), a Sheffield Wednesday with 1 win 41, Ipswich with a congested fixture schedule and play Boro before us, a hull side who for some reason play better against better sides and a Swansea with nothing to play for.Chickens should have been counted well and truly long ago3 -
Well yes but we only need one fo those teams to catch us not all three and momentum is a big driver. We lose on saturday and one of those wins the gap is cut to 5.Crispywood said:

It is not beyond the reams of possibility that we capitulate leicester hit some form. Also teams with nothing to play for will have players trying to earn contracts for next season.
Look I think we are probably going to be ok now but the idea we are 100% safe is wrong.2 -
I try to judge players on the season overall, he has undoubtedly gone off the boil but his contributions over the season have helped us achieve our aim, his highlights for me by far outweigh his low points, he will improve I think next season. People wanting to have a pop at him as a makeweight/ deflection for TC is a bit petty to be honest.0

What? No we don't. If one of those teams catches us they overtake us and the other two stay between us and relegation. Only if ALL the teams overtake us does anything change in terms of safety.Radostanradical said:

I think we’ve actually gotten to the point where we can the drop the fact that we once were major bottle jobs when it comes to doing something that looks far too easy and simple to do. Since Jones has come in I can’t remember anytime we’ve done something like give a team with no win in 10 a win and we actually have the best record in the league when it comes to Extra time winnersKap10 said:

I want to shake him. I don't understand why he's immune to being dropped if he's not even going to finish chances4

Or a slight change in how we play. If you’re going to play two deep holding midfielders you might as well play a really attacking number 10ForeverAddickted said:Garrymanilow said:I want to shake him. Needs benching. Hes been so out of form for weeks. Knibbs is fit now,he should start on Wednesday0
-
Carey and JRC should be interchangeable, fighting dor the same spot , and either only last 60 mins and be replaced by the other as neither can last more than an hour imo0
-
Someone who has spent most of his career at RWB should not be a serious option as a number 10. The fact he’s seen that way is damning2121 said:Carey and JRC should be interchangeable, fighting dor the same spot , and either only last 60 mins and be replaced by the other as neither can last more than an hour imo5 -
If Knibbs is fit enough to go an hour on Wednesday I'd be giving him a shot. But I absolutely agree that it's a pretty damming situation that our most creative midfielder currently is someone that's played most of his career at fullback.fenaddick said:

Really don't know what's gone on with Carey , maybe it is a bit of being " undroppable" with the Knibbs injury and Fullah not being ready.4 -
I cant see knibbs being good enough and jrc (who has played rb and across the midfield) is the only other creative player we have but doesnt have the legs to last more than 45 mins0
-
Knibbs for me is essentially waiting on whether we go down or stay up. Go down - and he will be starting every week and aiming for 10-15 goals.2121 said:I cant see knibbs being good enough and jrc (who has played rb and across the midfield) is the only other creative player we have but doesnt have the legs to last more than 45 mins
Stay up? Will likely be moving on.1 -

His assist record is shocking for a player supposedly responsible for linking midfield with attack.1

Why would we sell Knibbs if we stayed up?DamoNorthStand said:

Because I doubt he will be in our plans if we have to build a stronger squad for the championship and we might get some money for him.elbiglad said:

Its not hard to understand0 -
We’ve not seen enough of Knibbs to be able to judge if he’s good enough for the Championship. Didn’t have a pre season, got injured, has hardly featured. Yeah, let’s write off yet another player.DamoNorthStand said:

Which sane club is going to look at a player who’s been injured and hardly played all year and think Yh he’s still worth the 1.8M we paid for himDamoNorthStand said:

Reposting this.I think that's quite harsh on Knibbs. His opportunities have been limited to:
- 509 total minutes across 23 Championship games (removing his three apps in cup comps). He's scored three goals in that time.
- He's had five starts and only started two games in a row once.
- He has only played more than 45 minutes twice.
- His average game time is 10.6 minutes.
Why do we have to write players off so quickly?1 -
His goals will have kept us up, but he offers absolutely nothing when he isn’t scoring. If we want to progress in this league, we can’t have a player of his ability being a guaranteed starter.1
