  • We've been pretty dire since we lost 5-1 at home to Saints following an away defeat to Wrexham. Luck has been on our side in terms of red cards, points deductions and opponents missing numerous chances.

Trying to scrape a result by conceding possession and relying on your opponents to miss their chances is not a good long term strategy.

We looked okay at the start of the season but have just got steadily worse. I'm not actually seen a team play worse than us in recent months.

If we stay up and have the same squad next season our luck will run out.

I'm sensing some sexual tension in the air and SteveACS has a massive crush on Braziliance and doesn't really know how to express his feelings .

It's the barnet and the teeth. Enough to crack many a man.

I just wish Jones could move on from always having to prove he’s right and the fans were wrong - witness the quotes to Cawley re Godden v May. It’s petty and unnecessary - he should just stick to the high ground. It doesn’t help him build any credit when the going gets tough like right now.

Tbf maybe he wouldn’t feel the need to if fans weren’t calling him to be sacked every 2 seconds despite exceeding expectations

Whilst there are fans who are not ready to move on from it, I have heard the pro Alfie May argument as recently as the weekend, then I don’t expect Nathan Jones to move on. After all, he was right.

At least Taylor is out of contract, Gassan isn’t.

I think he will have to break the squad down with his coaching team. Firstly, Championship ready players, Then Championship squad players, Young players who could step up, Players who could make it but need a loan and Players who are unlikely to make it. I think Doc is a Championship squad player for instance.

The other factor is it looks clear that we need new strikers whe you look at our goals scored this season, but it might be more to do with the way we play and they need better service. Not easy I would say but maybe easier than last summer when there were more uknowns.

The fact is, Braziliance is not a Charlton supporter. He proved that with his blog from the Leicester game. Hd couldn't be ar5ed to watch Charlton play. So much so, he missed the red card, Charlton's first goal, and Leicester's missed penalty. He was far more a Lricester supporter that day, than a Charlton one. From his creaming his jeans at their store, to him rather spending money in Leicester's concourse at half time, than watch the game.

But, what he doesn't address, that by buying a ticket, he's stopping a genuine supporter from going to watch the team play...
    Weird post

Christ feller, if you’re going to the trouble of AI-ing yourself in another teams kit for a joke you could have at least taken the time to digitally fix that barnet too…

He’ll go to whoever offers us the most amount of wages, he rejected Bolton last season so he clearly doesn’t care about going anywhere permanently

Still Charlton at heart though, he's gone train spotting.
  • I watched a bit of the Oxford v Wrexham game last night and Wrexham play a similar game to us. Defensively very sound and workmanlike everywhere else, the main difference being they have a little bit more quality and decent finishers, that’s what having one of the best budgets in the league gets you. It’s almost as if these vastly experienced lower league, newly promoted managers know what they’re doing and what you need to do when you first arrive in this league. All these demands from fans stating ‘we’ve got to improve drastically over the summer’ sounds very petulant. We have the third worst player budget in the league and Carter has already stated that’s only to improve gradually until we’re a mid budget team in 3 years time. Our style of play ain’t going to change over one summer.

We took 4 points off Watford this season, I bet most of their first team are on over £20k a week, some considerably more, yet our highest paid player is on £20k. If we’d played the same expansive, passing football fans are now demanding I guarantee we would have received nil points. Tactically, it’s suicidal to go toe to toe when your players are not as talented as the opposition.

Fans also complaining that our summer signings have failed are also delusional, we got the scrapings of the barrel, the players that nobody else wanted and that’s squarely down to money and nothing else. Original targets like Kone, keeping Small, and Galbraith didn’t turn us down because they didn’t like our style of play it was because they were offered another £10k a week elsewhere with a team more likely to stay up because of their overall budget.

I can see what will happen, we’ll be making steady progress next season but impatient fans will start getting on Jones’s back because we’re not making fast enough progress and start affecting the teams confidence.

Just look at Millwall, steadily accumulating players and budget over many seasons to finally get a decent pop at promotion. Yet our fans want a fast track suicidal route back to L1. Please don’t sign up to that!

Would love him to explain the logic of the last two games, because maybe I'm just being obtuse. But why did we effectively set up for a draw against a shocking Sheffield Wednesday team (okay I get it they have got a few draws, but they are still the worst ever Championship team), but against Ipswich, a top team, we press high up the pitch and go for them - in the first half anyway.  If we had done that against Sheff Wed, instead of sitting back, we'd have easily overpowered them, because they haven't got the quality Ipswich have to just play through us.
I was saying this throughout that first half

Dykes and Carey for Kelman and TC was baffling (TC maybe injured but still)

They were shitting themselves all first half at that long ball. Completely lost that second half and they cruised to victory.

Stuff like that just makes me question wtf Jones is seeing.

But it's also not just the Wednesday game, against WBA it was obvious we were settling for the draw, a team in atrocious form at the time. If you're setting your side up to not beat the worst teams what sort of message does that send out.

I haven't been able to go as much this season due to other commitments, but I was surprised how poor the atmosphere was at the Bristol City game a few weeks ago. For me the football is killing the atmosphere, it was louder in LG 1.
We were winning regularly in League 1.

He shouldn’t be immune from criticism and it’s not ridiculous to question if he’s the right person long-term.
