My only real criticism of Carey is that I wish he’d just get his head up more and have a look sometimes. He is far from our problem right now though.
I mean Jones said it himself after Saturday, you cant fault him for the goals he's scored this season, but he really needs to work on his assists
It’s decision making ultimately. When to release the ball/pass and when to shoot. Some games
this season he’d take the shot when it was never on.

I think he has been knackered second half of season and is adjusting to this level. Hopefully a rest and refreshed for new season and he will come on for it. Theres a player there

But his lack of presence and vision has been a major factor in us not laying a glove on so many sides throughout the second half of this season...
Agree, but you could make a case that the manager could have been braver with playing Fullah there.

He was tidier with the ball yesterday. I think it might have got into his head to play in a 'Roy of the Rovers' style.

The problem is, without the Roy of the Rovers stuff (which normally results in him smashing the ball into row z when a decent pass might have been on) I’m not sure how much else he really contributes?

I’d probably be ok with retaining him as a squad player, but if he starts as many games next season as he did this then I’ll have concerns. If there’s a market for him this summer, which his goal record could generate, then I’d happily sell.

IMO he's an attacking midfielder who has been asked to play in a more central box-to-box role. He's done well to get 8 goals, and at times I've not minded his shoot-on-sight mantra, simply because he hasn't got players around him who would be clinical enough to finish chances.

Phew glad that's over, looking forward to being in the Champ next season and hoping for at least a few more seasons to come. It's good football, decent number of away fans at the Valley every week and some good away places to go to.
The accident of birth geography makes me a Charlton supporter, I'm proud that's the case and there's nowhere else and no other team I'd choose.
Quite the season one way or another, next season, no matter what the table looks like, I'm going to try harder to remember those immortal words 'Don't panic Captain Mainwaring'.

and his goals are the only reason we’re still in the division in the first place. Top scorer w 0 pens has to be taken into consideration

Good strong striker of the ball and eye for goal but general play and awareness could be better - was exceptionally sharp early in the season but couldn't maintain it - one of the 3 central midfield positions we need to upgrade

Think we’ve all seen Carey has dropped off a bit recently, and some have been saying they don’t think he should be starting next season, but I think some important context has been missing from the discussion

Carey has played in all 46 games this season, with 40 of them being starts. The last 3 seasons he’s started 23, 23 and 26 games. So he’s gone up to a more intense level and played a lot more games than he ever has in his career

Due to Knibbs injuries we’ve been over-reliant on Carey and that has definitely taken its toll on him in the latter part of the season. Fully expect that he will be back to his best come August and a key player for us next season

If an offer came him for him do you think that we would be tempted?

Why would we? Unless it’s for silly money. Even if we bring in better quality we need a squad and he’s definitely worth keeping.

Think it all comes down to money that would be offered. If other clubs haven't done their research like we clearly didn't with some of our signings you look at the 10 G/A in a championship team who doesn't score and that may heavily inflate his price without considering he doesn't offer too much outside that at this stage. I can't imagine we'd be actively looking to sell him though.

You lot need to pinch yourselves. Blackpool fans are entitled to their opinion of him but bladdy hell he is in his first full championship season in a completely new side with new players, he deserves a huge amount of credit, not doubting!

Seriously I am amazed by some of the expectations on here after the large amount of dross we have been forced to consume over recent years!
You’re being way too protective. (It’s his third season at this level.)

He’s been a crucial player for us this year but he’s also playing in a key position and giving us almost nothing in terms of keeping the ball moving and unlocking defences.

He’s scored important goals and he’s a valuable asset to the squad as long as he keeps doing that. But he needs competition from someone who offers something different / more than just the odd pot shot.

He’ll have a place here for years. Nathan Jones has always loved someone who can pop up out of nowhere with a winning or equalising goal - just look at how many years he’s held on to Luke Berry.
Way too protective? We would be in league one if it wasn’t for Sonny.

A creative player in his role would have been wasted this season due to the way we have played. If NJ switches it up in season two then I’m in your boat. For the meantime have some respect..
