I’m ok with the crazy stuff, I just put it down to passion and drive to do well, if it’s not then the fella deserves a bloody Oscar!! 😂AddickNL88 said:
I completely agree with this. Nathan’s behaviour on the sidelines has often annoyed me, to be honest. Still, I’ve backed him because I didn’t think changing the manager again was the right move and at the time stability felt more important than pushing for promotion from League One at that point.Sword65pf said:
Nothing wrong with questioning him, it’s down to him to prove us wrong if we have doubts, for me I’ve stood firm and been 100% with him, but that’s not to say I’ve wondered what the fuck he’s doing at times, I’ve just felt we’ve had too many changes over the years and the stability is reaping rewards.MuttleyCAFC said:After we lost at Stevenage last season, I was upset with Jones and it felt the players weren't playing for him and he was picking the wrong side. I suggested in a post maybe he had lost the dressing room. I was out of order doing that but at least I learned my lesson. I know a little about football which is a dangerous thing, I don't get Jones but I see what he has done and I am incredibly grateful to him. I'm not going to question him again.I never expected him to get us promoted last season after our rough patch. And keeping us up this term with at least 53 points is a really strong achievement in my view. We had some ups but also downs along the way, bumpy ride and never was going to be easy in such a strong league.
I didn’t understand his team selection last Saturday as well, but happy to be proven wrong again like a few times over the past couple of years.I trust him to keep us up next season as well, although second season in the Champ might even tougher looking at our squad. I do really hope that we can move away a bit from the direct and defensive style we (had to) adopted over the past few months. Yes we got some results but I don't see it as sustainable.0 -

What we should take into account of is the reason we stumbled over he line is beacuse we had a group of home games where there was only a goal in it and could have gone either way and they went against us. We also have to factor in that we have gone 7 away games unbeaten though we have only won two of those. I think it tells the story that our games this season have been generally tight and early on we were getting winning goals and later were conceding more. I think given the circumstances we should be more than happy.9

Other than the Bristol City game where we were pretty crap, we were ridiculously unlucky to not get any points at all from the Wrexham, Norwich and Preston home games. Think we created just as much going forward in those games as we did against Hull, maybe more even, but we had poor finishing in those games and 2 excellent finishes against HullMuttleyCAFC said:What we should take into account of is the reason we stumbled over he line is beacuse we had a group of home games where there was only a goal in it and could have gone either way and they went against us. Are you confusing Bristol with Preston? We didn’t deserve a penny from Preston we were awful after the first 15 mins (in which we did score)NabySarr said:

don’t think we were ridiculously unlucky in those games though. We played well by our own standards but even in those scenarios it’s a lot of huff and puff and not a lot of real chances and not much of an XG. Some of those were our better performances but we still just weren’t good enough or Bold enough .For comparison, Ipswich had a 2.19 XG against us when we beat them 3-0. Our XG against Wrexham, one of our most promising performances of the season, was 1.34.
anyway, we are up and have a good few months now to sit back and relax and look forward to next season. Well done to Jones for what he’s achieved by hook, crook or nightly prayers resulting in a very generous chunk of the good fortune we needed - however he did it, we stay up and have another season to attack. He rightly gets the chance to see what he can do with the squad this summer and I hope he can get us both away from the relegation zone and off our seats next season!1 -
It's easily forgotten that as the playoff promoted side we were a month behind everyone else. If you look at the signings we made it does suggest we were preparing ourselves for a strong season in league one rather than a season in the champ.
To stay up with a limited budget in that circumstance is no mean feat.8 -
Agree it’s an important point we were a month behind, but I’m not sure we’d have signed many of them in L1 given the fees we spent. We don’t know the exact amounts but from the rumoured amounts it’s over £10m, which is similar to the additional TV money you get from being in the Championship vs L1.carly burn said:It's easily forgotten that as the playoff promoted side were were a month behind everyone else. According to what NJ and Carter said, our targets have been selected before the play off final. (Which explains Carey being at The Valley for the Wycombe game)Scoham said:

So, my belief is that this team, in the main, was designed for a real go at League 1...0 -
I think we probably decided on a League 1 Plan and a Championship one. The problem is you can't really go all hog on either until you know what one it will be.2

I think the lack of time just meant we focused on players we knew well - either because Jones knew them or because we’d played against them in league 1
We’ve got more time this year, and Chapple has been here for longer, and we’ve stayed up so are more attractive to players than we were this summer. We should be able to do much better this window4 -

What’s interesting is that two of the L1 players we’d have been targeting in either division in Knibbs and Kelman took the longest to get sorted1
