We need to be mindful of mental health conditions. This may be quite complex. Please exercise some caution13

This is so true. In Apter’s case he’s young, moved down to the big smoke, at the same time his younger brother has moved to Cardiff, we don’t know the family dynamic and how it’s all affected him. Add in he started the season well, then lost his place as NJ couldn’t risk him at RWB once Edwards was injured and how that’s affected him.BarnehurstBob said:We need to be mindful of mental health conditions. Didn't NJ say he was a project for the long term when he was loaned to Bolton?cantersaddick said:

Rob Apter had an excellent debut against Watford and spent more time in an attacking role than doing too much defending as a RWB as Ramsey started the season in prime RCB form and covered him and for the first batch of games this worked and Cafc accumulated 15 points from 10 games.
I felt Apter was a good attacking prospect but I said after 3 games, Rob will be exposed when expected to defend when under the cosh and when Josh Edwards was injured on the left side highlighted even more that we needed a defender on the right who can get forward as opposed to the attacker who has to defend.
Apter is getting mixed reviews at Bolton but I thought the relationship with his ex Blackpool colleague Carey was a good combo but the 3-5-2 wasn't condusive for a right attacking, left footed player who was suddenly expected to tackle with his right foot against Championship standard left footers in many occasions unless they were inverse 'wingers'
Rob didn't look like a "lazy bag of shite" when he came on as sub and went to the right side and worked hard and put in an accurate cross that the defender put in his own net.
I believe that was his last involvement at CAFC before his loan up north to Bolton.
Really not sure if bridges can be rebuild between Nathan and the family of Apter's; unfortunate as we don't have many flair players.

Fine. So what do either of you have to say about the relevant people on the Charlton payroll who scouted him, conviinced themselves and each other that he could easily be a wing-back, valued him, recommended a 4 year contract, and “worked very hard to get the deal over the line” with a club that didnt want to sell him.Covered End said:

I would say it didn't work out, like many signings.
NB I'm not giving Apter any grief. My comments are obviously directed at the fans who believed in the nonsense spouted in January about Apter being a project for the long term.2 -
You can value about 5% of what comes out of Jones’ mouth , to be fairCovered End said:I would say it didn't work out, like many signings.

Bolton have two/three injuries today but he still hasn’t made their squad.1
-
Would have actually been better letting him rot on the bench for 6 months opposed to loaning him out completely destroyed his value. Dare I say when you consider the money he may be a worse signing than AhadmeCafcSteve said:Bolton have two/three injuries today but he still hasn’t made their squad.1 -
Easy to say with hindsight but I don’t think many predicted him flopping at Bolton. He had all the tools to go and help a team get promoted who may then have tried to sign him permanentlyCrispywood said:

He’ll be like a new signing next season.6
-
We will just have to see what happens after he’s had a proper pre season and with hopefully a fit Josh Edwards3
-
Jones is clueless he’s dropped the new messi and ruined his career6

The only thing I'd say about this is that they have arguably the best player in the league in ACD who plays in his position. He was injured when Apter went in there, but even if Apter pulled up trees it seems to me it would have been foreseeable that he'd struggle for game time once ACD was back. Makes it a slightly strange move imo.fenaddick said:

That said, he clearly didn't pull up trees when given the chance and the fact he can't even make the bench now tells a pretty damming story.1 -

Honestly really hard to put a finger where it’s all gone so horribly wrong should have exceeded when you take all the factors into accountfenaddick said:

I'd keep Ronnie over Apter. Ronnie knows how to take a bruising but come back for more in good humour, not throw a hissy fit like a teenage girl.EugenesAxe said:

He’s a 22 year old who you’d have thought hadn’t peaked yet. By that metric he was brought in as a “project”. If your definition of project is closer to something like a Kaheim Dixon then I agree with you that it would ridiculous to label one of last summer’s marquee signing as such.Covered End said:I would say it didn't work out, like many signings.

I didn’t expect him to be an immediate full time starter upon joining last summer. But I did expect him to contribute more than he ended up doing - had hoped for something in the range of 15-20 starts, 30+ appearances and half a dozen goals / assists, ready to step up into a more prominent role for our second season at the level.8 -
To be clear, I’m not suggesting Apter is lazy, didn’t try or anything like that, I meant hypothetically, if that was the case, it still would never be said.PragueAddick said:

i still hope after a pre season and if the strucuture of the team is adjusted to fot him in, he could have a big impact3

If Apter wasn’t a Charlton player if you told any fan we’re signing a winger from L1 who fans think he’s poor, has mentality issues and is lazy who couldn’t even get into a squad for a playoff game despite them missing 2 forwards to injury we’d be screaming at the board to not sign them let alone have them in the starting XI.5

The loans of Tanto and Apter have kind of put them out of the shop window in the league below!
Not quite the plan.0 -
Both players probably got what they wanted going to clubs familiar or better location, after it was made clear they’re game time with us was going to be limited, I wonder if the Tanto move was too safe and comfortable for him?, it was down to the pair of them to prove shipping them out was the wrong move, unfortunately they haven’t, which in fairness leads to questions about character and desire which is on the pair of them, I don’t see either of them as bad players intact the opposite, so I find it odd the way things are panning out, hopefully they come back in better frames of mind having learnt some lessons .mendonca said:The loans of Tanto and Apter have kind of put them out of the shop window in the league below!

He also got dropped before ACD was back from injury. We will just have to loan him out to league 1 again next season and hope he can find some form so that we can recoup some of the fee we paid for him3
