That might work and if it looks like we were in trouble, they might do more winter window loans to try and keep us up.

We will not see a massive clearout in this window because the club cannot fund it.

That’s what I’m thinking. We’ve got decent Championship defenders and goalkeepers. Not sure about strikers,  but I do think they’d score more if they had better service. My thought is they’ll focus on improving midfield and wingbacks and look to survive again, ready for the 2027 clear out. 

I don't think we'll see a massive load of business this year.  Essential purchases only I think.  Next year is going to be a slight improvement, but enough that we should find ourselves out of the bottom third I reckon.  Year after is when we can finally shed some dead wood.

Docherty was man of the match in several games towards the end of last season,I think that without the effort he put in we would have gone down.He is a ball winner and workhorse,his job is to break up play and give the ball to the ball players who should then instigate the attacks.Sadly ,we didnt have any ball players who could do this,we should keep Doc for this role and find a ball player who could compliment him.

There is quite a bit of work needed to thin that squad. There are not many we could sell, so lots of loan deals seem likely.

The season has barely ended and the bedwetting has already started. Why is everyone so miserable? I for one am hyped for the new season to start and seeing who we are going to buy.

Yes there are plenty of players on contracts that we might prefer we could release easily, but these players have all played a role in us getting promoted and staying up so were mostly very good signings

Those 3 deals were obviously shockers but you are never going to not make bad signings, every team makes bad signings. Our hit rate over the last few years has been better than most clubs which is why we’ve been able to progress so much 

In fairness Nathan said he had full control on transfers. One esteemed poster on here confirmed he even pushed the boat out to get Ahadme through the door! I actually thought Apter and Tanto looked decent in spells, but fell out with the manager by all accounts. Jury out on Knibbs due to injury, but he has the ability to pop up in the right area and nick a goal. I like kelman but every time he has a good game hes dropped the following week!

Edit. If I was the Plymouth manager I'd make a cheeky enquiry for both Mitchell and Gillesphey this summer.

Can you please name the "many games" he cost us points because I can't think of any at the moment. 🤔

Midfielders don’t tend to cost you points don’t get in a position to miss a lot of sitters and have defenders covering them if they make mistakes.

Would second this, and add that Apter is still quite young and a good loan next season might see him get his head back on straight and might, if nothing else, help increase his value.

Ahadme and Tants I don't have massive hopes for other than League One loans. I think that's the level for both, and I do think both, Tants in particular, will have interest. 

In recent years, predating Jones, we've done a good job of signing players to extensions to protect their value. The one exception might be Macca, who we signed after promotion despite the fact there were questions about him as a Championship center half, but as you said, every club gets some wrong.

I think most of the players we don't want will have the opportunity to go out on loan at a minimum, which should get most of their wages off the wage bill. I think some, like Macca, will be allowed to go on a free where maybe we'll need to make a bit of a payout, but I don't think it will be massive. Most of the players there are questions over only have one year left on their deals--which isn't that hard to get out of via a free and a bit of a payoff if needed.

All in all, I think we should be able to move on players who don't have a place here next season without too many issues.

As is often the case, a big wedge of U21 team players released, as they are seemingly not progressing sufficiently towards the 1st team squad - or blocking the pathway of younger promising players.

I feel for them.
It must be gutting to be told at that age that there's no future for them at the club.

For some though, they still may elsewhere make a decent career in the game - if they have the drive and determination to overcome a major setback like this.

And a bit of good fortune.

I don't know for certain but I'm sure the club try to help the released players with their future careers. 🤞
