I had a busy weekend - Hayes vs Lordswood in the KCL Premier division on Saturday and then Tunbridge Wells vs Reigate Priory in the ECB National Club knockout yesterday.

Lordswood have been rocked by injuries to two of their best players - Callum MacLeod and Linden Lockhart - both to knee injuries. With Ed Taylor (67) as captain, they scored 238 against Hayes on a decent deck, but it did look 30-50 short IMO. Hayes lost an early wicket, but then controlled the game, winning with more than ten overs to spare.  Will Harby scored 68 and Will MacVicar 95 (out trying to get his ton when only 8 were required for the win).

Tunbridge Wells were much changed for their cup game, with five missing from the "usual" Saturday team, mostly batters. On a poor pitch (used in the 2's game on Saturday as well), the youthful Reigate recovered to post 210 in their 40 overs. George Ealham batted beautifully to score exactly a hundred, getting there with a single off the last ball of the innings. Wells lost wickets regularly, and despite some lusty blows, never looked like getting any closer than they eventually did, losing by 45 runs (36.3 overs).
Despite missing MacLeod and Lockhart, Lordswood managed to scrape home in the final over by beating Bexley by 2 wickets yesterday in the National Cup.

The less said about the game I watched on Saturday the better! Holmesdale scored 381-5 against a much changed Bickley side from last season who, in turn, replied with 178 all out. The only positive was that Seb managed to pop up late in the game to see two of his friends from his time at the DLCA in Australia - Nathan Khelawon and Ollie Chaplin - who scored 115 and 39 respectively for Holmesdale.

I also see Rilee Endersby bowled well on his debut with 4-28 off 10 overs.
Yes, Lordswood did well against Bexley, and those who batted OK on Saturday did so again on Sunday.

I understand Holmesdale's score was the highest BP have ever relinquished in a KCL game!

Rilee has bowled well so far for CWK; I think he's a decent bat too, but he hasn't had much of a chance in the two games he's played so far...
Elliot Hooper (working), Ranjit Singh (now at Gravesend), Michael Ridley (injured), Ish Berhami (playing for a club in Middlesex) and Sam Geyer (last season's overseas) accounted for 103 wickets last season and none of them were available on Saturday for the reasons given.

Bickley 2s had an extremely ropey, very 3rdsy attack and still almost beat our 1s, who played a bunch of terrible shots tbf

Damian Magin, who took 38 wickets in the 2s last season at 12.18 was in the 1s on Saturday and went for 43 runs in 3 overs, somewhat demonstrating the difference in class between the two sides and the "ripple effect" of losing players from the top side.

We needed 41 off 14 overs with 6 wickets left chasing 160 in 40 overs
    having dropped 6 dolly’s ourselves
oppo held everything and we lost 3 wickets for 6 runs then a 25 partnership had us needing 10 off 19 balls , set batsmen takes a risky single to stay on strike and our no.9 doesn’t ground bat and he’s out I’m in at ten and I’m no mug with bat easy job to do .
next ball swipe by set batsmen thick edge caught at fly slip , next ball shit no.11 plumb lbw , team hatrick for them and we lose by ten runs .
im fuming and my Tourette’s kicks in that we’d lost to a load of guff and people just can’t use their brains aaaaah

Our 2s have picked three specialist offspinners for their next game. I am one of them. I think there is an expectation that our home pitch might turn a bit

I was up there earlier - Bickley 297 from their 50 overs, after a bright start by Dartford bowlers - can’t see Dartford challenging that total 😤

Put in we managed a pathetic 92 all out skipper top scoring with 48 threw his wicket away skying one of a pie with 20 overs to go , idiot … 3 overs later I do exactly the same thing what a complete twat I am .
they knocked em off for the loss of  2 wickets
we could be going for back to back relegations.
Ive got a week off next week for a wedding , I need it I’ve been utter dross .

It will be interesting to see if Ben Dawkins plays against Jas Singh in my game this weekend! Neither are in the Kent blast team playing tomorrow...so both could be made available on Saturday?

One other player who might feature is Ekansh for Bexley. Jas batted at 3 in the last game and it could be a "like-for-like" swap for that position!!!!

I'm very likely to be there. With Seb not now playing and as a fully paid up member of three clubs (Bickley are at Sandwich and Sidcup are at Leeds & Broomfield), Bexley is the most appealing of the three. Hopefully see you then.

Ben Dawkins confirmed as playing for TW. Bexley don't release their teams on social media until the last minute and probably to coincide with them handing you their match card.

Top game at Bexley today. Superb display by T Wells and a good fighting display from the home team. Excellent bowling in the first twenty overs restricted Bexley to 230 all out (49  overs). Wells went straight at it, and won by 8 wkts with over 20 overs to spare. Ben Dawkins broke the bat he scored the big Kent hundred with, but hit 5 sixes in six balls during his not out ton. Jas Singh had a dropped catch first ball, but couldn't stop the runs flowing, only picking up a late consolation wicket. An excellent game in very hot conditions.  I loved every minute!

Three consecutive balls for six over cover/extra cover were incredible. Bexley just had no answer to the skill, power and brutality at times of Dawkins and the Williams brothers.

Was part of a 104-run partnership on Sunday, coming in to bat at 118-6 in the 25th over a 40-over game, and was there at the end.

    On 3*(13).

Probably the best innings I have ever seen coming from Will Holcombe (125* off 86, 18 fours and 3 sixes). We batted sensibly and took runs where there were runs, and he farmed the strike very well given we had literally nothing behind us.

Well, we had one bloke, a bowler recovering from keyhole knee surgery, behind us. So yeah, we had 9 men, but lost by only three wickets (albeit they had 11 overs to spare) thanks to a debutant hat trick that made things very interesting!

Still, was one hell of an innings from Will. Genuine pleasure to have been at the other end. Absurd batting.

This morning Bickley Park hosted a four-team T20 hub. When Bickley's scorer and stalwart of the Club, Andrew "Rebel" Edwards failed to show, given he is always the first to arrive and hasn't missed a game in 20 years, there was naturally some concern. It transpired that Rebel had suffered a heart attack on his way to the ground and was operated on at the Medway Maritime Hospital.

I have just heard that Rebel, despite the efforts of the emergency services and hospital staff, has tragically passed away.

I had a good chat, as usual, with Rebel yesterday about cricket and all things beyond. To say he will be missed by his family and all his friends at Bickley and beyond is an understatement.

    RIP Rebel

Desperately sad news. I got to the ground around 10.30 and was told the news, but didnt know until I was home he had died.

An awful day for BPCC, and for all local crickets lovers.

    RIP Rebel.

I honestly don't know. It's something that he's always been called and he's been comfortable with as evidenced by the fact that his Facebook profile picture is that of James Dean in his role in "Rebel Without A Cause". Perhaps he saw himself as just that.

Something that I hadn't realised Rebel was responsible for putting together was a "Getting to the Ground" guide. Basically, it informs football fans of the best mode of transport to all grounds down to Step 6. It will be yet another of Rebel's lasting legacies albeit that, inevitably, some of the information will become outdated over time:

We are now 8 games in to the season, and the leagues starting to take shape. Any surprises of overachieving or sides underachieve.

Minister have had a slow start, following there big winter. Not sure many had Blackheath to be up as high. Stevo still keeping St.Law up there on his own.

Championship I would say is going as most would have thought, following Gravesend big spending over the years.

Div 1 looks like it could be interesting, with most sides having match winners.. Nonington are looking strong this year.

Very close still at the top of the premier league, with just 6 points covering the top four. I have Blackheath vs SLHC on Saturday, 1st vs 3rd, which will be a good game. Hayes are also strong, despite a couple of defeats, and Bexley are young and keen. TWells benefitted when Dawkins could play, but have lost three on the bounce. Bromley play well as a team but are just short of the better teams IMO. Minster have had a recent bounce, but Lordswood have suffered with injuries to their top players. Whitstable have Jayden (five-for and a ton on Saturday!) and the Vine have two Comptons. It is a close, tough, league this year!

Bowled 15 overs off the reel yesterday opening up, after the Waggoners set Cudham Wyse a fairly demanding 254 to win in our timed game.

We managed to get through 18 overs in our hour before the 20-over countdown, with CWCC at 70-odd for three. I'd picked up all three and was creating a fair few chances (I'd also blown off their number 4's front pad twice, but no luck with the LBW appeals...). Kept going, after 15 overs I was 15-5-58-4, having finally got their number 4 - who played a loose shot after going into survival mode when it was clear the target was slipping out of reach.

After being whipped out the attack, my colleague Harry gamely took 4 wickets, going 7-4-4-4 in total, with Mo picking up a wicket as well.

I'm brought on in the last over - my 16th - to try and get the final wicket, bowling at their number 11. We have three slips, a gully, a short leg, short cover, short extra cover, and short midwicket.

First ball - at his legs; patted straight down.
Second ball - about 7th stump line; he left it.
Third ball - armball, drifts in and he jams down his bat in time to prevent an LBW.
Fourth ball - grips and beats the edge. Ooooof.
Fifth ball - slightly slower, he's slightly too early on it, it pops up slightly... and somehow doesn't find a fielder!
Sixth ball - put all I could into it. Pitches on a good length, on middle and off. It grips slightly. The bat thrusts out a forward defensive - only succeeding in edging with very soft hands, down into the turf between keeper and first slip- EXCEPT OFF THE FLOOR A DIVING ONE HANDER FROM KIER AT FIRST GETS US THE WIN!

Days of cricket don't get much better. 16-6-58-5 and a round bought in the bar afterward. Great stuff.

(And it's fair to say that bowling 16 of our 38 overs I definitely got my match fee's worth!)

I was at Sidcup on Saturday, the club I played for over the course of four decades. I deliberately picked this weekend to visit my old stomping ground principally because the two games on view encompassed the three clubs I am a member of, namely Sidcup, Bexley and Bickley.

On the front square, Sidcup 1s took on Bexley 2s of which Seb has played with, at some point or other, 16 of the players on view. Sidcup will be kicking themselves because 140 was never going to be enough but 170 might have been given that they managed to take 7 Bexley wickets before being defeated.

On the back square, where I spent most of my cricketing life, Sidcup 3s were playing Bickley 3s. Far more like the cricket I was used to playing (as opposed to what I have been watching in recent years) with Bickley managing just 114 off 38.4 overs and Sidcup, in reply, taking 34.3 overs and losing 7 wickets chasing their target down.

Great to see so many friends from all three clubs with the cricket being played in the sort of spirit that it is meant to be.

A bit quiet on here so down in the Sussex League Div 12 ( east) .Lolwray donned his whites for the first time properly in 2 years (career halted by a prostate op and dislocated finger) Sidley 2s amassed a totally of 260 odd ..in reply Bexhill 3s made a very good chase reaching 210 ish.

I am overjoyed to be back playing properly at 69 you just savour every game as you dt know if there's another injury or infermity to be had around the corner.

A useful 2-24 from 8 overs ..I am back properly! What's more I am playing with a decent mix of lads enjoyed Saturday immensely
