Or something has happened in his personal life. None of our business reallykillerandflash said:Bizarre timing to "take a break" when the season finished over a month ago anyway. Surely if that was true, he would have resigned then. Or last summer after relegation.5 -
Huge boots for someone to fill. Hope everything is okay with McKenna because he's got a very bright future as a manager.2

There's nothing in the announcement to imply a serious personal matter. And it seems that Ipswich are covered if he takes another job within 12 months too, so it does sound like Challinor resigning, but expecting to take another job, just not immediately.fenaddick said:

Maybe he’s going to do a Dowie and turn up somewhere next week.1
-
Definitely a strange one, probably told no money available and he can't be bothered to get thumped every week.0

Scott Parker, would be a good outside bet.Laddick01 said:Hope all is well with McKenna. Very good manager that plays exciting football. Will be really interesting to see who Ipswich go for. Tough job that one.0 -
Jones now 19th in the longevity table for PL and EFL managers

Got out before he had to manage against Nathan Jones, again0 -
I said at the time when Edwards left Middlesbrough for an inevitable relegation with Wolves, that it was a strange move. However i felt he did quite well there and would've had them as certs to go back up with him there.
The new guy casts some doubt on that. He might be great, he might not, no one knows. His record doesn't look good though. 7 jobs in 7 years.
Varzim - 9 games.
Academica - 14 games, sacked.
Chaves - 12 games, sacked.
Moreirense - 7 games, resigned.
Pacos Ferreira - 30 games, sacked, then went back 3 months later. 20 games then resigned.
Moreirense - sacked after 8 months.
Gil Vicente - in charge since March 2025. Led them to 6th last season which to be fair is very good for a club of their size

The problem for Rob Edwards now is if a modest Championship team was interested in him they would probably have 2nd thought now after what he did to Middlesbrough.

I think he’ll get a PL job from a team not quite as sunk as Wolves were. They’ll see he created an uptick and will think it’s just about enoughsoapboxsam said:JustFloydRoad said:

In the unsurprising managerial merry go round I didn’t see Edward’s getting sacked. I felt Wolves were a strong bet for promotion with him (and Armstrong), but now I’m not so sure. Nor am I about West Ham but they are at least keeping their decent manager.2
-
Baffling timing unless something has happened behind the scenes. If they wanted to remove him, then surely they should have done it as soon as the season finished.0
-
What we need to happen now is Southampton sack Ekhert and appoint Edwards and then Saints v Boro gets selected as the first game of the season9
-
I don't think he will - on top of the way he left Boro not looking great, he got 3 wins in 27 league games at Wolves, got criticism from the fans for an awful style of football, then the board thought he was bad enough to rip up the original plan of him managing in the Championship and got rid.fenaddick said:

Suspect he'll get another Championship job on the back of a good start in the league with Boro last season, but not a PL one.

Yes, Edwards wasn't an improvement on Pereira. He might have to wait for a Stoke type job to come up, or a return to Luton at some stage.0

Edwards to Ipswich wouldn't surprise me1

Wonder what the biggest number of new managers for the start of a season in the Premier League is?
Feels like a lot this time - Bournemouth, Chelsea, Palace, Fulham, Ipswich, Liverpool, Man City, at the least.2 -
I too think this will be a record. There were five new managers at the start of 2013-14North Lower Neil said:Wonder what the biggest number of new managers for the start of a season in the Premier League is?

I’m not saying it would be a decision that makes sense but it’s the kind of desperate move relegation threatened clubs makeMrOneLung said:
