Ran the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon yesterday in 4.15.
Not a great idea having been four weeks out injured, suffering from jet lag and having to walk/run the last 15km (including a 3 mile uphill stretch at mile 20).
But what a great way to see a new city. Was always going to get the medal and always feels good overcoming hard things, despite how painful it is at the time.1 -
Birthday celebrations in Edinburgh for me this weekend meant that I did some tourism and visited Edinburgh parkrun. Not the closest to the city centre but a very worthwhile bus ride out to Silverknowes on the shores of the Firth of Forth. A flat out and back run along the promenade with lovely views. Probably the only parkrun where I will ever drink a can of Iron Bru afterwards!5

Did the Harvel 5 at the weekend. Seems like a popular event and a nice mix of road and woodland. Weather was crap but still an enjoyable run. Dont do much off road running so made a nice change and whets the appetite a bit for the North Downs 30k in a few weeks.2

Back running after a few weeks break with knee / side issues.Had the indignity this morning of tripping over a bit of pavement in front of people and having a couple of ladies come to help me up. Fortunately no ligament damage this time, just a cut leg, hand and bruised ego!Could have sacked it off there but pleased with myself for carrying on6

It happens to us all. Been off running with a back injury for a month, finally back again using the runna app has me at a big half time of 3hrs 10mins I’m expecting it to drop if I can keep myself injury free2

Back to the Local Parkrun this morning. New Personal best by 6 seconds and the lovely ladies from Kenko handing out some free flavoured Latte sachets which has gone down well indoors.shirty5 said:Ventured out to a new Parkrun this morning. 3 laps on an all grass circuit but a sting in the old legs for each lap with a steep incline to make before making way back downhill.
A warm one this morning and ended up with exactly the same time when I completed the one at Charlton Park at the start of AprilWarm but a cloudy morning which made lovely running conditions
Exactly 2 minutes quicker than I was on my first Parkrun at the end of July last year1 -
So humid. Don’t remember ever sweating from a Parkrun as much as this morning0

Traipsed round 53km of the South Downs yesterday in the Race to the King event.
Some absolutely brutal climbs and a dodgy foot arch but I got it done.
Some beautiful scenery, remembering how lucky I am to even attempt this stuff.6 -

We got quite lucky with the weather yesterday. I did Beyond London, 55.5km as someone moved a sign in Richmond Park so we missed a turn.It's a very cool event but it needs more water stations, especially in its first half.
If yesterday had our coming weather or even today's, I'm not sure I'd have bothered.3 -
Nice one! That’s what I noticed last year that the aid stations weren’t enough.Threshold seems to do it well with a great selection of grub and frequency although there was a 19km gap between 23 and 42 which was a slog.1

There was meant to be an aid station in SE9 but I missed it or it wasn't there. The 2nd half also had more shops to run into for water.What's your next big event? I like Phoenix Running's events, I'll plan a couple of those. One of their regulars did her 600th marathon yesterday!0

Great reading your stories on here. Been struggling of late. Had a grade 4 meniscus tear in the 1st week of Jan confirmed by MRI. Now waiting for an arthroscopy to clean up the knee.
Have slowly gone back to Walk/Run with knee supports and just gritting my teeth to get over the finish line.
Trip to Avery Hill this weekend, for me this will be one of those 'it's the taking part that counts'.

Got the North Downs 30k on Sunday and its supposed to be about 28 degrees. Organisers have said its still on. Thames Path - Woolwich this morning and that was a proper warm one to run in. Just over 29 minutes so around 30 seconds slower than last week, but a nice course with the run up, around and back down the mound in Gallions Reach Park before heading back along the Thames towards the Finish Line.
Saw a couple of Charlton faces at the run who were quicker than me but they are younger than me and in that heat that was all about pacing yourself1 -
I did my local today because of all the worry warts kicking up a kerfuffle about late cancellations coming because of the expected scorched earth event.I followed the precautions and covered myself in factor 30 and wore a baseball hat which just about kept the inevitable downpour off me at 855…
First two laps super humid but 3rd one the sun did final come out and was a sapperoony.Crap time but who cares0 -

it is looking to be cooler than last year. Enjoy what is a great race.1 -
Did the Lee Valley Velopark 10km on Saturday. Was very hot and the course wasn't the best. Suffered after about 3km.0

North Downs 30k today. Didnt feel great going into and found it tough going from early on. Managed to get around in bang on 3 hours which was actually 2 minutes quicker than my previous time running it. Pleasantly surprised by that! Thank you @kigelia and all of the other volunteers. You all help make this a great event.1
