I remember seeing Ezri Konsa's debut there 10 years ago in a Charlton side which also included Ricky Holmes and Ademola Lookman. Naturally we lost 1-0 in the 1st Round to a side which had just been promoted to the Football League.
We went for a walk first around Burford and then to a nice real ale pub near the ground. A pleasant trip but I'll give this one a miss.2 -

Who cares if we haven't played there for TWO whole years. And why would York have been the best possible draw ?AS1987 said:

The only grounds we haven't been to over the last two seasons (and won't be this season either) were:
Barnet
Bromley
Cheltenham Town
Luton Town
Franchise FC
Newport County
Plymouth Argyle
Swindon Town
York City
Obviously York City would have been the best possible away draw (assuming they beat Crawley), but Cheltenham is much more attractive than the likes of Luton, Swindon and Milton Keynes.
(Yes, I know it's to do with "ticking off grounds you've not been to before", but to the vast proportion of fans its more to do with the size/strength/history of the opposition, not having to take time off work and more importantly being able to get home again that evening )

There are no glamour ties in the first round of the League Cup. The biggest teams are Championship teams, all of which we will be playing this season anyway.golfaddick said:

When we have a cup game, I prefer playing a team from a different league so that I don't end up at the same away ground twice in one season.
Having just got of League One, I would also rather not play a team that we played recently. That doesn't leave many teams at all, so I'm happy just to go to a ground that I didn't visit in the previous two seasons.
York City would have been the only new ground for me and it's also a nice city to visit.

Whilst you can’t rely upon the results from pre-season friendlies as a guide to the new season, Bristol City losing 1-0 at home to Walsall might well have something to do with what looks like them seeming to have split their squad to play two separate games on 29 July and 1 August. Getting ‘minutes’ in also means letting the players getting used to each other as well as trying to get match fit.1 -
M'Boro v Wrexham tonight at 8 o'c (7/8) .. could be a good guide to what we'll be up against this season .. 2 possibly promotion hopefulls ?0

Neither of these two’s lineups would be out of place in a league fixture IMO. Quite a competitive game with a sold out away tier and two of three stands packed for the home support.
