I remember Ajose missing several sitters that day. I believe this was the game where he put the ball over the bar from a yard out.

Of course, it was none other than our former academy player Harry Pell that scored their solitary goal.

The only grounds we haven't been to over the last two seasons (and won't be this season either) were:

Barnet
Bromley
Cheltenham Town
Luton Town
Franchise FC
Newport County
Plymouth Argyle
Swindon Town
York City

Obviously York City would have been the best possible away draw (assuming they beat Crawley), but Cheltenham is much more attractive than the likes of Luton, Swindon and Milton Keynes.

Played them away in this cup about 10years ago and lost 1-0.

Been to Cheltenham a few times , one of the better areas to have a drink in.

Who cares if we haven't played there for TWO whole years. And why would York have been the best possible draw ?

(Yes, I know it's to do with "ticking off grounds you've not been to before", but to the vast proportion of fans its more to do with the size/strength/history of the opposition, not having to take time off work and more importantly being able to get home again that evening )

Oops.....cleanly forgot the game is on a Saturday afternoon rather than midweek. 

There are no glamour ties in the first round of the League Cup. The biggest teams are Championship teams, all of which we will be playing this season anyway.

When we have a cup game, I prefer playing a team from a different league so that I don't end up at the same away ground twice in one season.

Having just got of League One, I would also rather not play a team that we played recently. That doesn't leave many teams at all, so I'm happy just to go to a ground that I didn't visit in the previous two seasons.

York City would have been the only new ground for me and it's also a nice city to visit.

Has round one of the league cup ever been exciting then?

It's good of Sky to televise our entire EFL Cup run.

If this is effectively the last pre season friendly, then surely we'd play a strong side, in order to get the team shape sorted and the main players sharp? 

The 2nd round tie later in August would be the one where I'd expect (from past history) NJ to rotate more?
