    Gutted but hey ho! The snick was a brush of hair not head without a doubt but Pasalic was offside and should have held his run. Vlasic was the villain for Croatia tonight. The players know VAR is is sat there waiting and the penalty givvy was as naive as it could be.

    Are the Swiss the most mediocre football nation? It’s not that there’s anything bad or unlikable about them, they’re just always so instantly forgettable. Their players are always fine but lacking anything remarkable. Their style of play is always fine but lacks any particular personality. And they usually beat everyone you’d likely expect them to and then get knocked out as soon as they play someone they’re expected to lose to. Even their kit is just plain red.

    Yes I am still wondering about that and I was at the match. Very entertaining but glad I wasn’t “invested” in either team. Also pleased to avoid too many angry and upset Croatians afterwards.

    Re altitude sickness, I’ve spent time in Mexico City and felt no impact whatsoever - albeit I wasn’t participating in professional sport. Mexico City is at 2200m, very different from, say, Bolivian Altiplano at 4000m plus. Now I did have the headache from hell and a few other side effects there. 

    I’m more concerned about them getting a decent sleep for a night or two before the match - no way will their hotel location remain secret. 

    Getting nervous already.

    I’ve lived at 1950m for the last 14 years, I don’t know any elite athletes, just some fat Sunday league players but I’ve never heard anyone arriving here and complaining about altitude issues.

    Several friends have been to Tibet and suffered though.

    It allows precise data, such as every individual touch of the ball with a boot or hand, to be immediately sent to the video assistant referee in real time.

    The Final is one match
    Semi Finals are two matches
    Quarter Finals are 4 matches
    Round of 8 is 8 matches. 
    England are now in the round of 8, not the round of 16. We just beat DR Congo in the round of 16. 16 matches.

    So FIFA is so bothered about sensors in the ball for fairness but don't give a fig about the fact they won't let England prepare for high altitude as they want to. A joke of an organisation.

    The Madueke thing is still bothering me today. I am pretty sure that in 3-4 years time, when he's turning out for Burnley, we'll be wondering how this kid ever started World Cup games for his country.

    Altitude is only really an issue for most people in daily activities above about 2500 metres. Sport is completely different though. I've done mulitple days in the high mountains on the bike, and performance definitely gets worse after about 1800 metres and is noticeable at 2200+

    As others have mentioned, you need to go to about 4000 for it to be really debilitating, but ideally you'd definitely want more time to acclimatise than 2 days, even if it's only for 90/120 minutes of effort.

    If England get to the final (I know, BIG if) we have three together at the NY/NJ Stadium. How much would they be worth? (they wouldn't be for sale I might add).
