Can't see either of these beating the frog munchers.

De Bruyne is one miserable geezer, he'll be even more morose after this game.

Spain v France would be the best defence v the best attack, I think Spain would have a chance

BBC are sticking with him through thick and thin but he's no Lineker and never will be.

No winder he was shite as a manager, even the British players would have needed an interpreter and even if they did understand what he was saying, 90% of what he says is utter bollocks

How has Yamal not got a yellow there?

The refereeing is mental. Some teams get easy yellows others commit murder.

I find Spain a pretty boring team to watch. They have players of real ability, but so much of their play seems to revolve around dull passing and suffocating opponents. I hope Belgium win.

Obvs he's a good player, but every time Lamani Yamal gets the ball, the commentary are overly gushing, as though each touch is a worldy.

Naturally he'll score the next goal

This was originally for the Belgium v USA game, but I want Belgium to knock Spain out so it will do for tonight as well.

    More Yamal bollocks.

“An exquisite touch and he’s unlucky”

No it was a shite first touch!

The Yamal wankfest in this one has been embarrassing.

    He’s had a stinker.

That’s barely any better than Quansah’s tackle btw.

    Not even a VAR review.

I watched an Argentina group stage match in a bar in the US a couple of weeks ago. Darren Fletcher was the commentator (US coverage seems to preference English voices as the main commentator) and it was essentially 90 mins of talking about how amazing Messi is.

My conclusion is that commentary for big tournaments is dumbed down because it’s designed for huge audiences of people that don’t watch football regularly. So ultimately it’s reduced to discussions of how amazing the star players are, regardless of whether they’ve done anything particularly amazing in this game or not.

Basically, the commentary on these major tournament matches is not for people like us who watch football regularly. But console yourself with the fact that, when this tournament is all over and the drudgery of supporting a mediocre team returns, we will have our favourite sport back.

Thought that was a really poor refereeing performance from Oliver too.

A few blatant yellows missed. Some odd calls in there too (the Doku dive being one when Spain had the ball in the box).

Refereeing has just been so inconsistent this World Cup.
