Another North Essex, inching along to my target of 200 and 100 locations by the end of the year (watch me twist my ankle now I’ve typed that out loud…)

It's a more contained, environmentally friendly objective than the alphabet.  I like it.

I'm on 206 @ 151 locations. I find it addictive like ticking off new football grounds, golf courses, countries.

I have Great Yarmouth planned on Saturday which is hardest in the country, deep sand means the winner is always 5+ minutes slower than their times elsewhere.

I bet you’ve been to Elevenerife as well…

    Unbelievable stuff.

Hoping to add exotic Weymouth to my vanilla collection of Avery Hill, Danson Park and Charlton Park soon!

After a few parkruns I decided the punishment of running 5k wasn’t enough for me personally. At a whim went and completed my first Hyrox in May. Second one now booked, Athens in first week of September.

I thought I had prepared well for the first one. Nothing at all can replicate what it’s like on the day though! Unbelievable experience and an unreal feeling when you cross the finish line.
Target for Athens is to be under 1hour30.

My first bit of Parkrun tourism today at Weymouth, holiday season brought in it’s record ever turnout of 690.

Nice course with a couple of loops and an out and back round a country park.

In reality, twice as many runners as what I suspect is a good number for it. It was so busy it took me 30 seconds before I’d got to the start, then another minute or two before getting into a proper stride.

Was good fun though and 43 awesome volunteers did a great job. A choir were singing at the finish line, everyone got cake and there must have been a couple of hundred others there cheering on family.

I find the way people get really obsessed with some of those arbitrary challenges a bit soul-destroying, to tell you the truth. I do like visiting new ones and going exploring - now starting to try to do all the ones within the M25 - but not to stick it on a t-shirt or to travel hours just to get a particular letter in the alphabet.

Did Leavesden Country Park today - over the other side of Watford - which was small-ish, friendly and had plenty of tree cover. Went to Banstead Woods a few weeks back, which was wonderfully cool in the hot conditions - and tagged on a trip to the lavender farm too.

Now on 367 parkruns at 132 locations: the point of diminishing returns may be approaching!

Great Yarmouth parkrun is ridiculous. The winner today was 8 minutes slower than his time last week. I was 12 minutes slower than my best time this year.

It's such deep sand and deep pebbles. I've done tough+hilly parkruns and at those you get breaks downhill. I ended up walking today, my speed/KM was even slower than the Cyclopark ultra I posted in May.

Great fun with extra camaraderie though.

    That is absolutely disgusting.

Got an adductor niggle ahead of running San Diego marathon in 3 weeks and then Race to the King 55km ultra two weeks after that. Worst possible time but doing all I can to rest up and trust the hard work was kind of done.
You've done this event haven't you?

I like the idea of it but it feels like there's a lot of road crossings and waiting at traffic lights? I'll try that (the 55k) or re-do North Downs next month I think.
I’m doing the north downs ultra but it’s in August rather than next month.
I've just remembered this. I had the day half in mind as my social media algorithm kept advertising it.

That was more than hot enough today, let us know how it went  :)

Was a great event. Ended up doing 55km rather than the 50 as took two wrong turns 🤒 a one point I was standing in a field on the phone to my wife who was trying to teach me how to set live location on WhatsApp so she could get me back on the route! 1000km of elevation gain was brutal and there were small parts of the route you couldn’t run because it was so steep, with uneven ground and low having trees. The winner did it in 3:23 which blows my mind and I just can’t think of many parts of the course where you could run at such a pace to hit such a quick pace. My strava time for 50km was 5:29 but my chip time for the race was 6:12. Probably wouldn’t doing another trail ultra but will defo do another ultra.

Nice one. Im still mulling over whether to do the the Kent North Downs 50k in October. Never done an ultra but have wanted to for a while and am training towards it even if I don't end up taking the plunge.

You'll 100% be able to do it. It's more laid back as you don't have to chase a time every mile or KM. I do get very hungry though, so try some foods when training.

I have an Epping Forest one booked for 3rd October.
