What happens if that occurs two months into the season? His starting team need to play together. This is the opportunity prior to the season starting. We should not be using our last pre season game to get minutes into legs, it should be a coherent performance with a bit of energy.fenaddick said:
And what happens if those in his plan get injured or suspended? Would you then want to rely on players who weren’t match fit?21cws said:It’s all excuses for me. Also saying we need to give all players minutes, really don’t. Give minutes to who’s in your plan!!!!3 -

I agree, just shouldnt let the highs get you too high and the lows too low.Sword65pf said:
We looked ok for a half, considering the game prior that wasn’t difficult. Our biggest issue is in a position we haven’t got replaced yet, can’t see anything wrong with people’s concerns until this problem is solved.shine166 said:Bipolar life in full flow again, we were looking great after last week's friendly. Now it’s all doom and gloom again.
If the high was.losing 2-0 to AFCW in last weeks friendly that shouldn't be too difficult. 🤣3 -
That just isn’t true. People played 75/80 against Colchester. Ask a question, get answers. You can’t complain about someone answering your question just because you don’t like the answer!21cws said:
Oh please with smart answers. Last friendly before season starts and he’s still changing the whole 11. What we doing next week when we can only make 5 subs? No one is getting close to 80/90 mins. What great match fitness they are going to have.fenaddick said:

We might not like it but as it stands that was a team who are likely to play together. Kaminski, Jones, Koumetio, Knibbs, Grant and TC are highly likely to play. As is one of Doc/Coventry. It might be concerning but that’s 7 out of your starting 11 thereAberystwythAddick said:

Maybe controversial but I'd swap young Lisbie with TC any day...
Hate dissing our own but, sadly, today I was even more disappointed than usual with Tyreece.8 -
Let’s dig out TC for not performing out of his natural position but ignore doc and cov getting pocketed by a solo Reading midfielderFanny Fanackapan said:Maybe controversial but I'd swap young Lisbie with TC any day...

I noted that he didn’t mention minutes into legs at all.AberystwythAddick said:

He was disappointed with a disjointed pre season, late signings and illness. IMO I think he shares our frustration at not being able to play a team ready to start the season.

Is TC not right footed, and is he a winger? Are we saying he specifically an inverted winger, if so he’s a luxury.Crispywood said:

TC’s preferred position is left wing. So it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to buy two further options for the left then force our best young player to swap sides to accommodate them. Be careful what we wish for here because TC is presently our top creative outlet by far.4

This dreary pre season is happening, but one of our best fittest and fastest players across the piece has been Tyreece Campbell.
I know pre season is whatever it is but the players that have given me some encouragement have been:
Campbell
Jones
Koumetio
Burke
Ramsay
Chalobah (bit early to really judge)
Leaburn
McNamara
Sichenje (brief cameo yesterday)
Knibbs (OK, not our saviour)
Mwamba
Godden (good to see him back)
All the players still have some work to do, but speaking purely personally the list above are those I think are having a proper pre season.
If we survive in this division by one goal next season I will be satisfied.
edit.
Grant also.3 -

Yes. Grant certainly. I forgot him but he would certainly count as having a good pre season.bolloxbolder said:

I’m a bit unsure what Jones means about preseason disruption or being “disjointed”1

- Players like Grant/Alli playing catch up w no pre season
- Players not being fully fit for the start of pre season (Edwards/Sichenje/Apter/Mbick/Godden/Doc/ kelman - all injured prior/during pre season)
- Coventry and Carey suffering from illness

Apart from that?Crispywood said:

Suddenly everyone's a fitness and conditioning expert.2

I think Jones looked slightly shell shocked and embarrassed yesterday. I suspect he’ll be doing a lot of thinking this week.3

Kev was a real talent - pace, balance and skill in abundance. Had a good career but he could have been even better .CaptainRobbo said:

I want to know where Super Kev is hiding his fountain of youth. Or maybe there's a picture of him in an attic somewhere? He somehow looks younger than his own sons.CaptainRobbo said:

Is TC's preferred position Left Wing ?
Has anyone asked him ?
We only really see his pace when he plays on his natural side on the right. Twice he went past the Left defender and put in decent crosses but Godden wasn't particularly Sharp yesterday.
On a good day he can do the inverse wing play on the left where he will mainly try to cut in on his stronger right foot. That isn't great for our players in the box who want a cross to run on to.
With Grant who's looking like he will have the left side attacking role, TC should probably start on the bench and he can cover either flank depending on the state of the game.
Alli seems more two footed than TC so I can see him playing on either wing.1 -
Yeah that’s what I mean - a week to go and Jones has suddenly started with this narrative. None of those points feel new or like some massive surprise that would mess up our pre-season.Crispywood said:

- Coventry and Carey suffering from illnessSure, some players have been injured for months and we’re building them up. Ok someone got the shits before the reading game, and yes we’ve been slow to sign Grant/Alli/whoever… but he’d previously said signings would be a slow burn this summer.
I’m a Jones fan, just feels a bit flimsy or wonder if there’s more to what he means.0 -
Was the keeping powder dry comment an effort to press the owners to offer more financial support.0

He means we are going to be shit and in a relegation fight all season.daveydanger said:I’m a bit unsure what Jones means about preseason disruption or being “disjointed”Just getting his excuses in early that’s all.1 -
There is none.Addicksi said:Was the keeping powder dry comment an effort to press the owners to offer more financial support. They went with his picks last season, and are reluctant to buy more crap.4 -
Nathan is definitely sounding quite downbeat compared to this time last season with players either injured, under cooked or ill and saying we are doing our business late reeks of frustration.
I haven't read any of the post match comments after the Reading match because after 14 years you know what the regulars are going to say even though it was a pre season match with no points at stake.
I have seen Valliant Phil two posts above and that's depressing enough !

It’s almost like we are second favourites to be relegated0

Yh tbf didn’t see TC use his pace once last season. Must have dreamed all the times we forced the ball to him during every attack when we Weren’t pumping the ball 50 yardssoapboxsam said:Weegie Addick said:TC’s preferred position is left wing. We’ll find out soon enough but I’m thinking that this window is proving to be a lot more challenging than Jones and Chappell envisaged.4
