Jones' press conference

Yes Shooters, we have bought some decent players from lower level English and foreign leagues and some free transfers. Getting a Championship ready midfield star to come to the team second favourites for relegation is a challenge for anyone. You would think it would have to be money that does it. Do we have real money on the level needed?0

No one’s said they need to be a star though?Southbank said:Yes Shooters, we have bought some decent players from lower level English and foreign leagues and some free transfers. Getting a Championship ready midfield star to come to the team second favourites for relegation is a challenge for anyone. You would think it would have to be money that does it. Do we have real money on the level needed? They just need to be better than what we have. Finding a midfielder that is better than what we currently have is not that difficult, if reports are true Jack Moylan is going from Lincoln to Cardiff, are they not relegation fighters also?
the talent is everywhere what depends is our ability to be able to purchase it1 -
We need somebody who has played at Championship level and proved themselves. Not another promising League One player like Moylan.. Whether we have the money for that is another matter but they must be more than just a little better than what we have. There is a gaping hole of Championship level talent in our midfield. Even bringing Coady in we just about crept over the line and we don't even have him now . Our midfield was overrun time after time last season.3

Yh tbf didn’t see TC use his pace once last season. Must have dreamed all the times we forced the ball to him during every attack when we Weren’t pumping the ball 50 yardssoapboxsam said:Weegie Addick said:TC’s preferred position is left wing. So it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to buy two further options for the left then force our best young player to swap sides to accommodate them. Be careful what we wish for here because TC is presently our top creative outlet by far.
Is TC's preferred position Left Wing ?
Has anyone asked him ?
We only really see his pace when he plays on his natural side on the right. Twice he went past the Left defender and put in decent crosses but Godden wasn't particularly Sharp yesterday.
On a good day he can do the inverse wing play on the left where he will mainly try to cut in on his stronger right foot. That isn't great for our players in the box who want a cross to run on to.
With Grant who's looking like he will have the left side attacking role, TC should probably start on the bench and he can cover either flank depending on the state of the game.
Alli seems more two footed than TC so I can see him playing on either wing.
You surely understand the point I'm making ?
When TC is on the right it's sheer pace that takes him past his left sided defender on the outside whereas on the left it becomes a jinking movement where he nearly stops and tries to cut back on to his right.
On occasions Tyreece goes on the outside with his weaker left foot and try to cross with varying levels of success.
Campbell appeared to be more successful in the 3rd tier than last season in the Championship which is no surprise as he encountered better defenders plus he had Small on the other flank to take pressure off him.
I don't notice any bona fide interest in TC from 'Bigger' clubs whereas you hear whispers about Ramsay and Lloyd Jones.
I want TC to become a consistent and improved player so he can get some credit from Ronnie Moore ! but for many of us doubts remain about his reading of the game and is he a Championship standard 'winger' whether, on the right or left ?

Firstly it's Chapple not ChappellShootersHillGuru said:We’ll find out soon enough but I’m thinking that this window is proving to be a lot more challenging than Jones and Chappell envisaged.
Secondly unless we are at the Board/SMT level of the club, no one knows how challenging they thought this window would be.
Not heard anything from the club about how hard it would be1 -
Yes, I asked him at the end of last season and he told me.soapboxsam said:Weegie Addick said:TC’s preferred position is left wing. I've long assumed that the RD years of cutbacks, compounded by the crooks, then TS had a hugely detrimental affect on our scouting teams, which is why for years now our recruitment has not excelled.
If I was one of the owners I would have invested in that side the most (maybe they have and just not shouted about it much- I know Chapple and the chap in Scotland have come in).
Look at the likes of Lincoln who are way out performing their budget. I would rate their chances of unearthing a gem higher than ours tbh. If you have a small budget that's the route. Coventry and Millwall probably being the Championship poster boys for it over multiple seasons.
Did our owners get sold a dream of championship break even through player trading? No idea but from that crap prospectus that was doing the rounds it was the dream being sold at the time.
Our recruitment has got and kept us up but not really produced any saleable assets to push us forwards. It's been surprising to me how few trading profits (even small ones) we have made in the last decade that were not our own youth already.4 -

Thank you Weegie, I find that interesting that he prefers to play as an inverse winger.
I understand it gives TC a chance to cut in on his right foot and get a shot at goal but from Godden, Leaburn etc they would prefer a cross from an advanced position they can move on to.

This is going to be a long season peeps but it's Chapple and Ramsay.
This is as much a reminder to myself for big Phil but definitely no excuse for the continued misspelling of Kayne's surname or a couple of posters who call him Kane after the Mighty Harry !1 -

Yeah that’s what I mean - a week to go and Jones has suddenly started with this narrative. None of those points feel new or like some massive surprise that would mess up our pre-season.Crispywood said:
- Transfers coming in latedaveydanger said:I’m a bit unsure what Jones means about preseason disruption or being “disjointed”
- Players like Grant/Alli playing catch up w no pre season
- Players not being fully fit for the start of pre season (Edwards/Sichenje/Apter/Mbick/Godden/Doc/ kelman - all injured prior/during pre season)
- Coventry and Carey suffering from illnessSure, some players have been injured for months and we’re building them up. Ok someone got the shits before the reading game, and yes we’ve been slow to sign Grant/Alli/whoever… but he’d previously said signings would be a slow burn this summer.
I’m a Jones fan, just feels a bit flimsy or wonder if there’s more to what he means.Yep thought the Jones “disjointed” preseason comments seemed odd.
Maybe some cashflow issues or delays while we find a buyer have meant he’s had to wait for transfers?1 -

I mean he has two feet. He could and should definitely cross more. It would at least allow the opposition a chance to second guess what he's going to try to do.soapboxsam said:Weegie Addick said:

Says we lost a tricky game at Cambridge last season.
Only because you sent a load of kids and reserve players.1 -

lol!... I love Nathan but he does make me laugh, talking about the integrity of the game over time wasting, and the fact that Goalkeepers wouldn't go down... and players would run to get off the pitch for a substitution so these rules we're seeing shouldn't be needed.Of course we'd never resort to doing something like that tactics eh Nathan...

I love NJ’s last comment, we are going there as teams in the same division, he’s not going to allow us to give them too much respect, he’s learning from previous games I think where he has had too much respect for the opposition.2

Kelman and Edwards reintegrating in training is good news, though sounds like Matty and Mannion have more than just knocks5
