A note on our YouTube channel, it’s been ongoing for quite a few seasons now, but we only post a 2-minute highlights video, no matter the score. Derby lost and have still put together an 11-minute video and EFL usually post an extended video of us too. Just seems strange we only post the brief highlights.21

Here's the important details from the BBCs write up of our victory today. "With pressure increasing on the resumption, Timothy Ouma headed wide when unmarked at a corner but Jones was not so wasteful as he powered the ball in from an exquisite Karlan Grant cross".

An excellent corner from Carey ( I doubt any one noticed !) and Chalobah just couldn't make a good contact with a poor headed attempt despite leaping well.
Be interesting to see when Ouma can push to be involved.
Looking forward to seeing the attacking midfielder who is going to score 9 goals or more as so many on CL dont rate Carey.
I have wanted Charlton to play this type of formation 4-2-3-1 with Carey and Knibbs sharing the position in the middle of the 3 during the 100 minute games (102 mins yesterday) once we had a midfielder like Chalobah to pull the strings.
I see Carey, our top scorer from 25/26 as a 'shadow striker'. Watch his 8 goals back from last season to see what he's capable of.
His goals dried up after February as the team struggled and Carey looked shagged [sic] out as he was involved in every game as Knibbs had a frustrating season injury wise to share the load. JRC made a good pass to Leaburn for the winning goal move but I would need to see Joe do more to be a starter.
Both TC and Sonny can be frustrating with their decision making and both can be better than last season as this team evolves.
Carey does need to find his shooting boots again and sharpen up but as he showed against Cheltenham when the sub keeper denied him a hat trick with two good saves, he can score and also assist goals.
NJ believes in him but will drop/bench Carey if he believes we have a better goal scoring 10/attacking midfielder/shadow striker to play behind Godden, Leaburn or Kelman when Charlie is fit.
Two tough away games on paper and hybrid grass next and we need to keep our nerve and not panic if we concede goals against West Ham and Spurs.
Top mentality after 1 nil down, 2-1 up, maybe Charlton aren't crap !1 -

He was unbelievably good today and that’s exactly how he was playing just prior to Dykes coming in last season. Dykes could never put in that type of display.

A brilliant result and decent performance. A great opener for some new faces, and some inspired showings from some of the old guard.A noticeable improvement in our depth. Chalobah and Grant both solid without being spectacular. Ramsay missing, Danny Mc in as a replacement and barely put a foot wrong. Mesik and Sichenje on to see out a game. Our captain didn’t even make the squad. New signing(s) not involved yet. Great to see such competition for places.So happy to see us score more than one and come back from a goal down, something we struggled with last year. Clearly a determination within the group, further demonstrated by Miles coming on and trucking their centre back and TC pushing back the Derby no6 for the free kick that led to the goal. Both of those lads could do with adding that bite and aggressiveness to their game. Thought they were both excellent.It’s only one game, but lots of positive signs and great to be back.12

Conor Coventry was totally written off by the CL masses before the Cheltenham and Derby games.
I believe he has benefitted by having Chalobah around him to share the heavy workload and Nathaniel ability to pass the ball under pressure.

A well rounded performance and much deserved win.
Been screaming for TC to play as an out and out winger and look at the difference. He won't always beat his man or stick a cross right on someone's head but he will play with confidence and he needs that!
Lloyd Jones is the man. Simple as that.

A note on Godden, I think he will ultimately find his role this season as a finisher. I honestly think the way we’re playing will really suit Kelman and he’ll start thriving too when he gets back from his injury.17

Hope this is a sign of things to come,detected a never say die attitude from the lads,and a decent amount of good flowing,attractive football.TC must stay,he was unplayable at times,and will only improve.I dont understand the stick he gets about his final ball,how many times do you see a ball pulled back from the bye line which results in a goal,Saka gets to the line for Arsenal,how many goals do they get from it.If TC can get 2-3 a season from this play ,that will be a good return.Also some people saying Jones made a mistake for their goal,no he didnt,he went for a ball with the opposing player and in this instant he was,unusually beaten in the air.
We have nothing to fear from West Ham net week,frustrate them early on,keep Bowen quiet and they will feel the pressure.

I've said for a long time that the time wasted by each team should be tallied up separately. At the end of the match each captain should be offered the choice to play the time wasted by the opposition or not. Thoroughly deserved win and on another day could have had a couple of pens. They were a tall unit and was concerned at set pieces but didn't amount to much.
Great to see us come back from a goal down...played some really decent stuff at a good tempo. Game changer clearly was when leaburn came on and gave them a different set of problems.
West Ham next week come on boys.2 -

The dilemma is that Alli, Grant and Campbell all tend to be best on the left hand side.
Once Nathan Jones switched Campbell to the left he was pretty much unplayable from a Derby County perspective, especially as they didn’t sort out doubling up on him as teams tended to do last season.
If it is true that TC is on less money than the Reading Lisbie that’s ridiculous. Offer him the kind of contract that reflects his ability and importance.
A Derby fan at the station gave me the old ‘two shit teams’ line. Wrong. Both teams were at a fine Championship level but we were at home and battled more than them for the points.
Gonna love big Billy, and we still have some mouthwatering other players to play.

That was probably the most optimistic I've been after a season opener in a while.
It wasn't just the result, I thought Jones had one of his best days in terms of figuring out how to get the win.
The system change definitely makes us more open, but we had much more going forward, and it wasn't just "give the ball to TC"
New signings all ranged from competent to excellent. It's great to have pace and power across the field, and a midfield that can help move the ball forward.
The game, in truth, probably could have gone either way as Derby had their chances, but apart from a 15-minute spell in the first half, we were always a threat too.
And you know what, it was quite fun?! Weird.10 -

For those who want a issue to worry about and that is are midfield and the lack of it. once again we had to resort long high balls up to Cary and Godden, and of course they could not win them, so Derby go straight onto the attack for much of the game, Leaburns contribution was his size so we could win some of those long balls, also he gave their defenders an added problem at set pieces . but being over run in midfield is a concern.3
