I thought it was the opposite. He went nuts because with a minute to go Mannion was going to release the ball when their keeper was in our half and try and get a third instead of keeping hold of the ball a seeing out the game . We deserved that
JRC did really well when he came on, the back 4 I think will easily become a back 5 away from home or against more possession teams.
Leaburn was class when he came on, my gripe is he is too nice still. He seems like a nice bloke so I understand thats not his character as Carlton Morris has made a career with a tenth of Miles' ability but all the right attitude
Billy Koumetio was a class act apart from him and Jones getting split and out of position for the goal. I was also incredibly impressed with Karlans match intelligence and especially the quality of the delivery for the goal
Szmodics going off was a blessing, he is a class act at this level and Clarke for them looked decent again as well. Defensively I felt they were there to be got at and the subs were made at the right times and were the right subs.
Mesic was guilty of daydreaming leaving Alli to handle Corey which is worrying but he showed he has a bit about him too.
Will Mannion seemed to have lost his mojo a bit coming for crosses however he has credit in the bank. Sonny Carey had a quiet game by his standards but worked hard and didn't hide
Tyreece Campbell I'm really pleased for, he has genuine competition for his place which should keep him sharp but also takes a bit of heat off him when things aren't going his way, I'm glad he scored yesterday as he felt sacrificed first half to get Karlan in the game
Chalobah was a class act as was Danny McNamara, both very capable players at this level.

Lot of chat about JRC being brought on over Knibbs.
From my perspective JRC has more 'on the ball' ability than anyone else in our midfield and with suitable legs around him in Cov (who was superb i thought), and was a great substitution at that time to keep the momentum high after we equalised. He has the ability to pick a pass, and whilst he looks a bit imobile at times, actually got around the pitch really well I thought.
I'd be keen to keep him as for me he's the only on in our squad at present who can do what he does. Remains to be seen what our new Kenyan superstar can do, which might change that viewpoint, but I thought he was great when he came on.
Sometimes fans make their mind up about a player, and regardless of how they perform when they come on, will give them a 5 in the players marks because they don't like them and say the same things week in week out.
JRC on Saturday came on and did a really good job for us. That fact doesn't change because in the past he hasn't been as effective.3 -
Good opening day - looked a bit bleak at half time - lobbing it up to MG can't be the season's game plan surely - once Derby realised it was, they pushed on to us and looked a cut above. TC switching to the left wrestled back our momentum and Leaburn coming on consolidated that. Lots to be positive about and its glaringly obvious we need that right winger - ideally a powerhouse like Small who can gallop into space, then switch TC back to the left. Can Leaburn perform like that from the start? Think Grant will end up as centre forward / generally floating around the front 4 spots but he needs to make way for TC on the left. Think Ouma will be a big addition and although Macnamara did a solid job, Ramsay will hopefully give us more there if not off elsewhere. New keeper, new right winger, Ramsay back and Ouma in and i think we will be looking quite strong.0

I don’t think he’s lazy, but he has this habit, once in a while, of just stopping playing when play breaks down around the opponents box. Sometimes he’ll just stand there for bit, and then wander back slowly. I know he can’t run all day, but at that point in time it just looks like he’s not making an effort, and I think that sticks in peoples minds. But there are plenty of times where he sprint back to cover a player and disrupts the play, even if he isn’t winning the tackle - those instances are quickly forgotten.wmcf123 said:

Leaburn isn’t quick, in that he doesn’t have that sudden burst of speed, but he is fast once he gets going. Plays those ball into a channel he can run onto, and I think he’ll give their central defenders a torrid time. I don’t think that was the plan - that was Mannions only option as they just couldn’t play it out from the back. Personally, despite it being futile, I was happy that Mannion did just lump it once it got back to him, rather than play themselves into more trouble.bromleyjohn said:I totally different team now with better quality players. I thought Godden was doing a decent job but he hasn't got height nor pace and if defenders double up on him it is very difficult. Leaburn has the physical attributes to make life uncomfortable for them. I suppose there is an argument for bringing him on as defenders tire. Maybe it is horses for courses.0

Absolutely loved Saturday. Forgotten already how much joy Charlton winning brings me. Went Cheltenham last week and classed it beforehand as start of season, bit my reaction to the goals and final whistle were chalk and cheese.
When the suns out and the stands look full, The Valley is a beautiful sight.
Lots of willing and good intentions, but club still feels a mile away from where it should / could be off the pitch.
Ultimately, what happens on the pitch is what matters most. And everyone went home very happy.

I agree, was gutted not to be at the valley on Saturday although watched it in my hotel room with my boy in Florida, the other rooms must have wondered what was happening when we scored!!😂, I’ve been a little critical of a couple of things lately with the owners/board, however what I would say to try and be balanced and fair is they have generally done good since coming in, and think we have to remember we were at such a low point, time/patience is needed which is most of ours weak point.
