As much as we hate to admit it they’re a top half established prem side. They’ve just won a European trophy. You wouldn’t bat an eye if he played for Man U or Chelsea. 

For the avoidance of doubt, they were not European champions last year.

If Burnley are interested their parachute money means that even their lower earners are likely on more than our higher, and regardless of who he’s mates with and where he’s from, football is a short career that you must get the most out of while you can.

It is a short career, so as much as the money now is attractive, a young player with potential, like JRS, also can’t afford to make too many wrong decisions on clubs to join if he wants to maximize his career potential. I’m not saying we’re necessarily a better place for him right now than Burnley, but the kid needs games and a settled home for a couple of seasons. Maybe he’d get that at Burnley too, but he’d definitely get it here, and a manager who can help him develop his game. A couple of years consistent game time and development to get closer to his potential, and any money he’s offered now could seem like pocket change with he might earn over the rest of career in the top flight. Getting the most out of a short career still doesn’t always mean thinking short term. 

All wise advice, but this is modern football. Agents are trying to maximise their players’ careers and earnings, and that often means getting the money as soon as they can. If he has the chance to play regularly with much better players around him at Burnley, his agent is inevitably going to push him in that direction.

I know we don’t necessarily want the realities of football finances to be true, but unfortunately they are, and financially, we’re right at the bottom.

It could happen but the chances are slim.

Been fairly unsuccessful elsewhere, knows if he comes here he will be an almost guaranteed starter, stays near family, Tyreece is his best mate, friends with Kayne as well and I genuinely think he loved being here. 

I reckon if we offer Palace a reasonable fee and we offer Jes decent Champ wages, he would sign.

Agreed, I think given the choice of leaving home for an extra couple of grand a week or staying where he’s from and playing every game, you’d like to think it’s a no brainer 

Not trying to piss on the fireworks but it’s not going to be “a couple of grand” it’s likely Burnley can offer probably double what we can. It might well be a mistake for him to go there but in the end it’ll come down to money. 

Doesn't always come down to money.  I've turned down opportunities to speak with employers who would pay me near double my current wage,  because there are other considerations.  All the money in the world wouldn't make me want to move to Burnley.  Maybe JRS likes living in London, and after a couple of years away would prefer to rebuild in his home town with friends around him.

My guess, TC has already signed and we are waiting for a double announcement. 

With the greatest respect you’re likely in a career people can do for 30/40 years footballers get 15/20 at best and they don’t make that much as youngsters.

Doubling JRS salary is probably an extra 750k a year. 

TC is an exception because he’s so introverted and reserved that a move elsewhere would probably scare him half to death. But how many footballers can we name who have stayed at Charlton opposed to moving away when they have better offers on the table. 

If Rak-sayki had the same offers on the table he would 100% join us over any club but I very doubt it would be that simple
