Football League World linking us to Tyrese Shade again. I feel they got a couple of transfers right last season but been well off the money this season, on par with Nixon.

I wonder if we move for Shade if we can't land JRS?

Wrexhams new 8m keeper not covering himself in glory for the Cardiff equaliser20

I thought that. In the game it looked unstoppable but the replays show he wasn’t unsighted, it was his side and was not far away. Decent strike maybe but if Kaminski or Mannion let that on he’d be getting pelters (rightly so)Covered_End_Lad said:Wrexhams new 8m keeper not covering himself in glory for the Cardiff equaliser10 -

They are but in the last 12 months we have lost youh players to Brighton, Newcastle, Arsenal, Man City, Spurs and Chelsea (at least). What is wrong with Youth Football has Ged Roddy's grubby fingers prints on it still sadly.8 -
Plus we had a PL club interested in spending £5m on one of our academy graduates in January and a Championship one wanting to spend £2m+ on one this summer. Those two sales alone would fund the academy for half a decade or soThe Red Robin said:

But what does JRS want himself?Bedsaddick said:Covered_End_Lad said:Palace were initially looking for around 10m for JRS, would imagine it is why we are waiting until the end of the window hoping palace accept a lower offer as it’s likely the last time they will be able to get anything meaningful for him. I expect he’ll end up going somewhere for 4-6m in a few weeks time, hope it is us but if Burnley are genuinely keen would expect him to end up there.
I wouldn’t be paying anything like 4-6 mil and 10 is just madness . What is the justification? He had a good loan spell with us but he didn’t exactly pull up any trees a Stoke or Sheffield United and he’s definitely not going to break in the Nigel’s first team .
Its Ok for Palace to say Burnley have bid £10 million (or whatever) and Charlton have only bid £4 million so you're going to Burnley. However, if JRS tells Palace I want to go to Charlton not Burnley and I am not going to sign for Burnley under any circumstance, there's not much Palace can do to make him move to Burnley. In fact, I'm not sure there is anything they can do.
So, who knows, if he really wants to come to Charlton, Palace maybe forced to accept a substantially smaller bid than is on offer elsewhere.
Be careful mate, @Radostanradical and @CAFCsayer had a massive fallout over a similar comment
I'd better delete my earlier comment sharpish!
They were like dogs with a bone.

just like TC
wouldnt it be nice to have wingers doing that on either side. I feel a fanny tingle….

The key part of JRS playing in this team is that he scares the opposition just like TC does. Imagine them on each wing. It means the other team have to decide which side to double up on, thus dropping deep and creating space in the middle. We don’t need him to score or assist necessarily, just run at them. If he signs I really rate our chances of a top half finish this season.14

I have a quiet afternoon on our summer camping trip so thought I’d make one of those posts for the stats lovers that takes ages to scroll past and annoys everyone if it gets quoted.
Below are the FootMob stats (per 90 mins) for Oknokwo, Kaminski, and Mannion in the Championship last season.
Also, as Mannion has a much smaller (but still statistically significant)
sample size of just 9 games last season, I’ve included his head to head comparison with Okonkwo in League One 2024/25.Okonkwo comes out on top in the League One season but, interestingly, in last season’s Championship, Mannion leads the trio in Saves, Save Percentage, Goals Conceded, Goals Prevented, and High Claims (which presumably is an indicator of how well a goalie commands his area).Where Mannion falls a bit short is the number of errors that led to a goal. I’m not sure what FootMob’s criteria is for that particular stat, or how it compares to what fans or managers might consider an avoidable error, but it’s possible that a couple of errors in a few games may not have been a repeated pattern if he played 30 plus games and his over stat may look better. It’s also possible he’s just a liability waiting to happen, however he went the whole of 2024/25 without a single one so did not have a track record of being error strewn prior to those couple of matches, at least according to FootMob. What is interesting is, in his 9 games, he made up for those 2 errors by conceding nearly 2 goals less than the xG stats would predict. He was the only one of the three to out perform xG, with Okonkwo conceding 2 more than xG would predict and Kaminski a whopping 6 more.
Stats don’t tell you everything, of course, and goalies’ performances are not independent of the defences in front, but I do think goalkeeper is the position where they are perhaps most useful in isolation. And, when you look at those stats, they neither say Okonkwo is way ahead or that Mannion is way behind. Probably the one the stats are least kind to is Kaminski, but even then he’s not far worse.
My conclusion is, if Okonkwo is the best we can afford and is available he’s probably fine and a small improvement on Kaminski, but also Mannion should not be just discounted out of hand and probably deserves a bit more credit for aspects of his games last season.

Was surprised to see Marc Leonard back at Birmingham and getting no game time, but then I see he got a serious Achilles injury back in May and will be out until early 2027 which explains it!0

A player who was ever present, scored very important goals for us in a side that produced next to f**k all last season which yes, played a huge part in keeping us up.For someone who is clearly patronising and trying to wind other fans up (Mrs Carey), maybe you should be the one who’s banned. The dilemma is whether AO is a significant improvement over Mannion. Most issues with Kaminski is he wasn't the upgrade we were hoping for based on the cost involves, both transfer fee and wages. I wonder whether might be a loan for AO until January with an option to buy, or a loan until end of season with an obligation after so many games played. Wrexham won't want to lose him for nothing it hes in his last year. My opinion is I like Mannion, so if there's not a clear difference in ability, then WM deserves his chance. However he has had injuries so we may need better cover than Brooks, I am not sure of his level.1

It should be paying for itself and then some! Selling the academy players is also what’s needed to fund the 1st team squad. Truth is that the player trading model is only viable one rather than youth production atmfenaddick said:

I posted a couof weeks ago that if Mbick can fully recover from his injury he will be the best striker we have produced for about 20 years.Crispywood said:
If that’s your 3 behind the striker you need a Leaburn instead of a Godden. Not one of those players are capable of supplying Godden with quality chances, need a target man that can bring them into play and physically occupy defenders.Chawlton said:Imagine TC, Grant and JRS behind GoddenPersonally I’m convinced Mbick is going to come in and be our best forward
I stand by that, i believe he will play premier league football at least.
I got loled 7 times and will probably get loled again but I believe he will be that good
Why do you think this ?
From watching highlights of Colchester's matches from last season or Danny Cowley's comments ?
The fact that Brighton were interested would sound promising.
It does seems a wild claim to say the best striker CAFC has produced in 20 years until I realized that Defoe left 27 years ago plus Lisbie is a tad over 20 years.
Other than Kanu and Leaburn we haven't 'produced' too many strikers ?
Karlan Grant is a forward who was and even now will be seen on either wing and going down the middle which we have seen in both Cheltenham and Derby matches. A versatile forward rather than just a striker.
Ademola Lookman came to Charlton at 16 so still qualified as an academy player so we can claim to have produced him on his journey from Waterloo boys team who made the long trips in the Tandridge league.
If Mbick has a career as good as Lookman it will be brilliant for him and CAFC, probably more for the multi millions he brings to us rather than many Games in our 1st team.
We need to get 5 million + add ons for one of our ex academy boys soon to make the outlay worth it.
If Leaburn and TC can play like they have started this season then we need Tyreece to sign the new contract ASAP with the escape clause being set at a higher level than 5 million because he may just make the big time.

This is true but Arthur O was the number 1 demoted to Number 3 whereas Brooks came to CAFC as a number 3.

Not just a quote from number 6 but could be from Thomas Kaminski who wants to break free from his contract.
NJ is certainly vexed by the situation listening to his interviews.5 -
In an abstract way it kinda is. Last season we had significant minutes played by TC, Leaburn and Anderson. We also had minutes played by Gough, Fullah and Laq. This season we’ll see Mwamba get minutes. All those players cost no transfer fee and will be on lower wages than a signing would be. The finances on that stuff are complicated but I’m sure the club have a way of working it outWoolwichAddick said:

Mannion’s games can only be viewed as statistically significant if you are sure that his 9 games are a microcosm of the 30+ games of the other two. It may be that he faced weaker scoring teams or the opposite.Exiled_Addick said:I have a quiet afternoon on our summer camping trip so thought I’d make one of those posts for the stats lovers that takes ages to scroll past and annoys everyone if it gets quoted.

But, whilst no hard and fast conclusions can be drawn from these stats, it does indicate that Mannion perhaps deserves better plaudits from the fans and the Wrexham lad maybe isn’t the messiah. Both camps must know this as Jones has no hesitation in chucking Mannion in and Wrexham appear to now view Okonkwo as 3rd choice. If Charlton feel that Okonkwo can be developed further or fit into our system better then a bid is justified but, if not, maybe we’re better off trusting Mannion for a while and look for a lower league gem in the same way that we did with Kiely and Pope.
The stats also indicate what we knew already - that, particularly on his supposed salary, Kaminski is no great loss.0 -
Pretty sure you can see the save Okonkwo made against us away to stop us getting a point, right in the bottom left corner surrounded by absolutely loads of goals he conceded in the exact same spot. Fkn annoying...

Not necessarily in today’s market where an average championship player goes for at least 7 figures. What it would cost to bring a TC and Leaburn to the club is probably 2 years of academy expenses in itself add to that Mbick, Mwamba have a very good chance of first team football with Fullah and Gough having potential as wellWoolwichAddick said:

That's fair, Dobson's style does make him one that you can "draw" fouls off but equally it means he's exactly the kind of player who will be throwing himself in at the death to try and stop a chance, which is admirable.TheHerminator said:
