Grant in the 10 scares me, don’t think he’ll drop back as deep as Carey or Knibbs do. But it does tally with the idea of Fullah going on loanCrispywood said:stjohnshill said:

The last time these three played together at the Valley
1-0 TC
2-0 JRS
3-0 Leaburn
24 -
Okonkwo, Mannion, Brookes
Ramsay, Mcnamara
Jones, Sichenje
Koumetio, Bell
Mesík, Edwards
Coventry, Docherty
Ouma, Chalobah
Carey, Knibbs
Rak-Sakyi, Apter
Grant, Campbell, Alli
Leaburn, Godden, Kelman
Rankin-Costello, Burke, Kanu, Asiimwe, Kaminski out.
Could easily swap Docherty or Apter in for JRC or Burke, or even both.
Mwamba and Mbick to make the other 2 slots in the fabled 9-9-9 (that used to be 8-8-8)

Why is that a problem? Sounds like what we have been working towards. Goalkeeper sorted, defence was never the problem, but strengthened anyway, attack sorted: just the midfield to be strengthened now, but we cannot expect to do everything in one window.Crispywood said:stjohnshill said:

Mbick is always ready. Question is, is the Championship ready for Mbick?ct_addick said:Any idea when Mbick might be ready for the first team ?27 -
While we may be close in signing JRS, I can’t see how someone knows the breakdown of the deal. Sure you might know he will sign or has signed, but I’d imagine only a few people currently know the extra contract details.chev said:Reams now saying fee going be less then 5million but more add on for palace if we get promoted in next 2-3years and few others adds ons3 -
If JRS is, actually, done, and on a permanent, to boot, then I don’t see how anyone can see it as anything other than an exciting signing. It is, probably, partly a function of his stock falling a little bit but it’s also a sign of where we have advanced to. He’s not the finished article, he will blow hot and cold, he’s probably not as good as some fans have blown him up to be in their mind, but if you told me 6 months ago that I might get to watch, this season, a rejuvenated TC, Karlan Grant, and Rak-Sakyi (on a permanent!) running at defences, I wouldn’t have believed you.I reckon they could be frustrating as hell some weeks but if they all click in the same game that could be very exciting to watch. If any one (or maybe more) of Leaburn, Kelman, Godden, or Mbick can consistently deliver what we know they have shown capability of in flashes, then we could be a far cry from the stodgy and dreary attacking play of the last year or two.15

Charlton fans think they will get JRS back however I doubt they could afford the fee so loan would be their only option. I doubt that will happen unless we can't sell him. I suspect the same with Esse.
It's that time of the window where selling clubs have to decide whether to drop their price, ship out on loan or just stick with him in the hope that they will improve.
“Can Charlton afford £5m with add-ons? Esse would be £10m with add-ons“I can’t see us spending £5m on any player so if he does join us I suspect it’s another loan deal.
Mesik £500K
Big Billy £500K
Alli £1M
Grant, Mcnammara, Chalobah free agents
Okonkwo and Ouma on loan.
So £2M spent so far plus loan and signing on fees.
Some recouped by Anderson, Gilly, Mitchell, and Ezenwata with more to come from Kanu, Assimwe and maybe Doc and Kaminski.
Soz Yes I would think £5M comes in under last summer... Maybe even leaves a couple of mil for someone else.
Mesik for Clarke, Billy for Gilly, Ouma for Coady, Okonkwo for Kaminski, Alli for Dykes. Wages may be a touch higher because of Jones and Campbell new contracts and Grant/JRS would be on more but I don't see those bought in as being on substantially more than last seasons squad from Jan onwards.0 -
I really don’t think Grant is a 10. He went there on Saturday while we were chasing the game but I don’t think he really suits there. More likely he ends up playing as a striker I think, or he will just share the minutes with TC on the left which is a scary prospect for championship right backsCrispywood said:stjohnshill said:

We won't have too many forwards IF Rak-Sakyi signs:
With the advent of 5 Subs and playing 4-2-3-1 during the 100 minutes duration, 2 out of 4 of Godden, Leaburn, Kelman, Mbick will be used in the lone striker role. (1 of them will be injured and won't be in the squad!)
1 sub used
In the wide positions in the 3, TC, Grant, JRS and Alli with 2 starting and 2 game changers. When any of these are injured so can't be in the squad, Apter can replace.
2 subs used
In the attacking midfield come shadow striker position in the middle of the 3, Carey or Knibbs and even Costello for tactical reasons (Doc out on loan ?) Grant could be the wildcard as he is so versatile.
1 sub used
That leaves 1 sub for the defensive midfielders, or defenders.
Injuries or a player having a mare during a match obviously affect how the subs are used but we have good choices everywhere which we haven't had for a long time.6 -

If this happens , and I still don’t really believe it will, Grant will have to compete with TC for the left hand side or be competition with Leaburn / Kelman/ Godden for the striker role.1
-
Or Grant will play in the 10 behind the striker6
-
That's already going to happen because both of them are much better on the left. I'd expect us to sign a RW whether that's JRS or someone else.wmcf123 said:If this happens , and I still don’t really believe it will, Grant will have to compete with TC for the left hand side or be competition with Leaburn / Kelman/ Godden for the striker role.1 -
I think with the current Saturday - Wednesday- Saturday that NJ was talking about yesterday in terms of it being hard on the squad , we'll need all the wide options we've got available.16

Personally think Grant is too good to be sharing mins off the bench he should be starting, either way good dilemma for Jones to haveNabySarr said:

Gavin Carter stated they were separate budgets a couple of weeks ago. The transfer spend would be similar to last year, but that it included instalments from last year's transfers. Which means, if we are spending the same as last year, but that didn't include the instalments that were to be paid this year and next, the transfer budget was much lower last year than everyone thought.fenaddick said:

Grants versatility is going to be incredibly useful. Don't know how much we'll see of him down the middle but his ability to play all 4 front roles is going to be key.DOUCHER said:
