Why should the rules change for high demand games? You have no idea whether those 2nd tickets go to people less deserving or not.KingKinsella said:

Coz not all season ticket holders would want an away ticket and a new season ticket holder may be unaware that its 2 tickets per person - as was i - you'd probably think you have a good chance of being in the reasonable assumption of say 50% of season ticket holders who want one - my mate didn't get one and he's had a season ticket for over 40 years - he doesn't get to every home game but he still buys an ST and his comments after he missed out contained some spicy language and questioned whether he'll bother with the ST going forwards. The 2 ticket thing needs sorting out.MrOneLung said:

I don’t think that would be an unreasonable assumption. The club do not want to discourage new season ticket holders who want to feel part of the Charlton community and may be unaware how the stages / phases work.
There are way more season ticket holders than tickets available for this game - how would that work ?

@clive does a sterling job posting up all the relevant articles from the club website - across a number of different threads throughout each season - as well as providing the links to said stories and others chip in with the links/text too.
Regarding the Spurs tickets the sentence on the website immediately prior to the description of the various phases was:
Qualifying supporters can purchase two tickets.
The ticket information for the Spurs game appeared on Page 10 on this thread and has been discussed ad nauseum since.
Anyone unaware of either the number of tickets each supporter can buy or their eligibility for each phase of sale really have no-one to blame but themselves.
If you want a ticket for a particular match - home or away - it's up to you to seek out that information from the club website or on here and then act on it.10 -
Exactly - most games, 2 tickets no problem but the second ticket should have the person identified and points awarded - big game comes round and he's got a lot of points as well, no problem - if he hasn't then he could be a glory boy not meriting one - its very simple and nothing to do with misreading anything or not knowing the status quo - its about ensuring season ticket holders and valley gold etc are not excluded at the expense of glory boys whilst still maintaining priority to regular away fans which i agree with 100%.KingKinsella said:

Bailey- thanks for a sensible suggestion. Mates tickets could be bought laterBedsaddick said:
Sadly it’s not the amount of tickets or the priority that’s stopped you getting the tickets it’s the fact that you weren’t trying to buy them at the time clearly stated (11am). That’s all it boils down to.Bailey said:Seems to me that the notion of a member having access to priority tickets in preference to non members is a misnomer. What probably should happen, it's my opinion and nothing else, is the first tranche of tickets released should be single tickets not doubles, that would then fit the title of priority ticket for member categories. If a member doesn't take up his single ticket then that would join the second issue where two tickets could be claimed.

So you could have got 2 tickets for Spurs and had an opportunity to get 2 tickets for West HamKingKinsella said:

The Loyalty Point system has been in place for several years & yet these same people moan & groan when they are unable to purchase a ticket for games at Millwall ,QPR, Portsmouth or if we get a very attractive cup-tie.
It will be interesting to see how many of these people buy tickets for the upcoming away games at West Brom, Stoke, Cardiff, Burnley & Middlesborough for example when the away allocation will be quite large & will probably go straight on general sale.Clive, I have noted your well informed comments over long period of time. I have inferred that you have close connections to the club. It's true that the dedicated fans who travel everywhere should have the first choice/opportunity. I choose my words carefully- I think there a lack of commercial judgement/wisdom of the demand to attend
1) London Club
2)premier team
3) state of the art ground
4) team we rarely play
Clearly these tickets were going to sell out.
The structure of the sale gave the "die hard" fans not only an advantage they merited but an additional one they didn't.
This fixture needed a different approach. A standard way of thinking was used."the way we usually do it'
It's true in my case that I don't understand the loyalty point system, I always have to check how many points I have on these occasions. The way it operates it is in effect a closed shop. OK fair enough when there are restricted number of tickets. This game had a relative abundance.
I hope the learning from this can be applied to future high demand fixtures.4 -
So you have no idea what the second person has earned and what ‘merit’ they have. For all you know 99% of those second tickets bought have gone to a Charlton fan who deserves to be at the game. If that’s the case, then all those moaning they missed out don’t have a case to be annoyed. In reality no one here knows how many people bought one ticket, how many people bought two tickets and who they are giving that second ticket too.DOUCHER said:

Surely anyone who ‘deserves’ to have gotten a ticket would have qualified with enough loyalty points in there own right or using there own VG membership which means the second ticket essentially shouldn’t be needed by anyone who deserves it.0 -
Realistically how many people who either aren't CAFC fans at all or are relatively uncommitted will be that fussed about going to a midweek Carabao Cup 2R game in such a grim inaccessible part of London? Appreciate visiting the stadium holds some appeal but there are not exactly a lack of alternative opportunities to do so.4

It’s probably as fair as it can be.The only changes the club will make in future would inevitably see the ‘cost’ rise in some fashion by way of a membership scheme / paid for priority. Our owners won’t do any changes that are not income generating I fear. What is a legitimate criticism is the ‘timing’ of some of the phases intra day. Not everyone has the flexibility to be online at the appointed hour and ideally these could be longer on occasion. But I also think this reliance paper tickets for many fixtures likely doesn’t help.0

It's quite annoying that back in the PL days I was too busy with work to go to away games, and that by the time I was able to start going to more away games, we were in L1!oohaahmortimer said:away followings have improved tremendously recently for us
Quite a few times in the Prem we didn't sell out local derbys never mind northern away trips
i bought an away season ticket first year we were up , it will be a nice problem to have again
all those mincing about not getting a ticket for the glory boy new ground bollox have plenty of away games with loads of availability coming up that may not be on their doorstep but will have a bigger say on how our season is defined .
Everyone is different but it seems to me people are more interested in the new ground/big team we're playing than supporting our own team ....
Still not seen Charlton at a few of the big PL clubs. But have seen us at Rochdale, Accrington, Carlisle, Morecambe and Forest Green

I feel that there should be a review of how tickets for away games should be sold.
The club know how many diehard away games goers we have - they should have tickets of course. There’s another layer of occasional away goers at least, say 10 away games a season, - they should also get tickets if any left over from the first round.
Then, in my opinion, why not have a ballot for ST holders and VG fans who don’t fit the first 2 categories to get the rest.10 -
Thanks all.
Seems a good idea to by VG then.2 -

What is the 2024 legislation? Surely if it impacted the current system, the club would have changed it already?Bailey said:Well if anything it's got people talking about the issue, with some good takes on how we got here in the first place. A few people have asked or stated that I should have got my tickets at 11.00 and I did contact the ticket office the day before to find out when I could apply for a ticket, I was probably stupid not to think that there would be 400 left, so I agree with that statement. As for the club, I don't think they are running the ticketing this way out of malice, I just think it's the way it's always been done, I still maintain that the legislation brought in 2024 may well have an impact on this system, and I will let people know the response from the club, Carlie at Valley Gold is adding it to the agenda for their September meeting so we will see what their take is on it0 -
Stoke Newington is good for pre-match drink and about 10 mins on the train to WHL station.0

I was expecting the best stadium in the world to send me a slick link go a digital pass, rather than a paper ticket like Charlton used to 5 years ago!!1

Why did you need to contact the ticket office, when the details were clearly displayed on the website ?Bailey said:Well if anything it's got people talking about the issue, with some good takes on how we got here in the first place. It is fairly obvious that you very rarely attend an away game.

It just so happens that my solicitor is in VG and got me a ticket when they went on sale yesterday at 11am.letthegoodtimesroll said:

Ok I missed all the stages but it's not my fault.
I shall be consulting my solicitor first thing in the morning.
He estimated there were thousands left when VG only priority opened.
He's also a S/T who went to 6 aways last season so could have got them on Tuesday.0
