We need to get minutes into our squad players. We will need them when we have 4 championship games in 2 weeks coming up. I honestly don’t care about the result, save the big guns for Preston

Don't have access to the Sky coverage on Wednesday. Can anyone confirm any pubs showing the match? I'm in Tunbridge Wells, but willing to travel further into town, or actually into town. Thanks.

I would sit grant ( a lot of distance run this weekend) Carey (let’s see what Knibbs can do) and chalobah (obvious). Otherwise would keep the remaining starters

Probably need to rest a few more with the short turnaround to Preston. Bell (can't risk him 3 times in a week), McNamara (looked tired towards the end) and Koumetio (lot of injury problems in his career so far) as well. Go with something like:

Do we reckon Spurs will rotate the entire eleven as well? Didn’t see their line up / bench yesterday. Presume it will be their U21s so perhaps we can get away with a bigger rotation than I suggested (can’t see Brooks in goal though - no chance)

Get 60 mins out of Ouma after he had 45 for the U21s you would hope. Good chance to see how he does without the risk of it being a league game…… but at a high enough standard that we can act on it if he does well

I’m sure he will but he was overplayed last season and we have a big squad. I’d rather he was rested and fresh to put in a good performance on Saturday to show Preston what they’re missing

Last two seasons until this summer he didn’t get a rest because of international duties. Looks fit, well rested and raring to go imo. No need to break his rhythm.

We now play Wed / Sat / Wed / Sat / Wed / Sat up to the international break and 5/6 of those are league games so many of the squad need to be capable of that timetable. For me it’s more about protecting the more injury prone older players eg Bell and Chalobah and then bringing on subs pretty early for others, which we have already been doing. It’s about utilising the full matchday squad as much as the full total squad.

Yeah I think if they had won yesterday (or at least not been thrashed) then De Zerbi would have had flexibility to rest their first team. Now I think they’ll pick a pretty strong side.

That’s an international break where he’ll get no rest though. We can’t complain he was overplayed and then also expect him to play every minute. Give him a rest for the first 60 mins on Wednesday. We also have to give minutes to players like Alli otherwise they won’t be match fit enough to help off the bench

If anything Spurs need to play their main players, to get them match fit. Their pre season tour down under was good for finances, but not good for actually getting their players ready for the season.

As for our team, I imagine all the players will want to play this one. But one or two will need to be rested, like Bell and Chalobah, plus there are others like Sichenje, Mesik, Knibbs, Alli, JRS and Apter who will benefit from decent minutes - Sichenje looked quite rusty yesterday. And it seems like an ideal game for Ouma to make his debut. We can still put out a "proper" team, even after making changes, whereas the Cambridge lineup last season had several kids, and a bench of kids.

The no 9 spot will be interesting, as we don't want to overplay Miles, but he'll want to play this game. I wonder if Kanu might feature - just because he's on his way out, it doesn't mean he can't still play for us.

I get we absolutely do need to protect Bell and Chalobah but saying we should be giving minutes to Apter, Kanu et al is too far.

Protect players yes - but don’t throw the game by playing people who won’t be anywhere near our starting line up this season.
