Shoriful Islam denied NOC to play County cricket | Cricbuzz.com
Looks like we're going to sign Khaled Ahmed instead

Kent 2s are 339-6 (96) at close of play in reply to Gloucs 351.

Curtiss is currently 103* (191). Cohen, who did not bowl, batted at 4 and made 44 (114) and Dawkins was out for 41 (68).
Curtiss was out for 107 (196) and Kent were 427 all out. Gloucs are currently 23-2 so Kent have a lead of 53. The two wickets have been taken by Jas and Rice.

Have to say that I've been impressed with Rice. He's probably not rapid but clearly has a stock ball and knows what he's doing with it too - figures in the match of 23-8-41-6, in what is a high scoring game, suggests just that. Since being released by Northants three years ago, as an 18 year-old, it appears that he has had very little 2nd XI exposure but has been playing minor counties cricket in the interim for Cambridgeshire.

Not being ultra quick never stopped Darren Stevens because he could move it both ways and had the "ball on a string". Not saying Rice is that but he does enjoy that other rare commodity that we haven't had in red ball - being a left armer. It will be interesting to see how he goes for the rest of the season, hopefully in our 2s for the duration.
Gloucs finished on 259-7 for a lead of 183.

Rice has figures of 3-34 giving him an overall return in the match, to date, of 30.5-12-66-8

No great surprises in the Kent 13 man squad to face Northants

Needless to say, there is a rain delay. It won't be the worst result for us to draw this game given we will have played, twice, the two other top three sides with the teams in fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth to come and who, combined, have lost 21 matches between them.

Having been put in and given the tricky early batting conditions, this is a fantastic start from our openers - 12 overs left today

    106-0 (24)

    Crawley 55* (77)
    Compton 36* (69)

154-0 (36) at close of play

A superb first session from Crawley and Compton. Admittedly the pitch did offer less as time went on but it would have been very easy for us to have been a couple down early doors.

A somewhat frustrated Northants used six bowlers, including the cricketing legend that is Chahal, in their attempt to get a breakthrough. That would be the only cause for concern in that the wicket is already showing a bit of turn and Northants do have four spinners to our one (plus Muyeye who has just three FC wickets to his name). That said, another 300 runs tomorrow and it will be very hard for Northants to win this game especially with more rain potentially on its way in the next couple of days

    Crawley 82* (108)
    Compton 51* (113)

Now that Bazball is dead I think Compton would be the ideal man for the job!

Zak Crawley lbw for 89, so Northeast has joined Compton to continue the accumulation. 170/1.

It’s one of those ‘every time I look we lose a wicket’, so I’m going off line for an hour or two. I’m off to the club shop to see if they’ve got that ecru away shirt in my size. CoyK.

Muyeye gone for 8 (5). Poor choice of shot in picking out Chahal at fine leg.

    182-3 (44.1)

Scrap that. My daughter suggested I check to make sure the shop is open and it isn’t! Closed today for a stock take.

This is one of the problems with Kent. Poor batting after a decent session means we are throwing away good positions. It is deeply frustrating how we cannot grasp hold of situations like that and bat teams out of a game. You really should be getting over 300 on yesterdays play. We will really struggle in Division 1 if we get promoted. We need better players.
