I do think Wednesday vs. West Brom is probably going to be the toughest proposition we've faced this term and will be delighted if we come away with a point - I think today was a performance that didnt necessarily show that we deserved all three points, but again just like last season, we've proven difficult to beat and ultimately on the second half showing, deserved our win.Preston did well to press, and were organised... But I'd be worry as a fan of theirs, as they had nothing when they got towards the final third, they reminded me of us last season - Can't see Heckingbottom lasting very long there - As I said just after the game, would have been criminal had they gotten an equaliser, they were again like us last season when we'd go a goal down, and just didnt really look like ever getting back into it.Special mentions to Leaburn and Mesik; Campbell of course gave Clarke a headache, and we've a new star in MwambaOnwards and... Erm... We cant really go further upwards now can we...26

Scrappy game, with a very poor first half, which seemingly only really came to life when TC or Leaburn got on the ball.
Result was the important thing, that is the type of game we lost last season.5 -
Not a great spectacle, but who cares. We laboured first half but once ahead never looked back.League tables mean nothing at this time of year, unless you happen to find yourselves clear top of the Championship after what feels like an eternity in footballing purgatory yo-yoing between League One and Championship relegation scraps. Then it means everything, no matter how fleeting it may be.Makes a tough midweek feel

Injuries will define our season.
We have quality in the first 11 and a much smaller drop off from first 11 to second 11 than previous seasons. Its when you lose players whether you can maintain levels game after game without being able to rotate.15 -

Just after coming on, Alli tried to skin his man and failed. It was then as though he realised he was going to have to beat them not through pace but through cleverness, and the rest was beautiful to watch27

So many good performances but thought Alli played really well especially after all the doom surrounding him on here.
Preston are a horrible, dirty team and the ref should have clamped down on them much earlier in the game.14 -

A stodgy first half but thought we bossed it in the second and got exactly what we deserved despite Preston’s filthy shithousery. Everyone put in a shift but a special mention for two summer signings. Mesik was an absolute beast by the end and Alli changed the game at half time. Also that one touch from Mwamba convinced me we’ve got an absolute star on our hands here. The Champ’s only 100%-ers. You love to see it!6

I know we'll get some that say that not going down is the priority but if we can't get a point a game from now on to take us to 52 points (only twice in the last 30 years has that not been enough to stay up in the Championship) then, frankly, we deserve relegation.
Two wins, one draw and two defeats every five games from now (1.4 points per game = 69 points) and we should be in the play offs. Who is going to say that this isn't realistically possible as things stand? We do have to be able to dream, don't we?

A good professional win. Thought Preston battled well, but weren't able to change tactics once they went behind.
Leaburn my MOTM today, and just like his dad, better when slightly angry.
Carey a bit disappointing, Alli improved things, with Karlan looking dangerous in the 10 role. Thought Coventry was a bit safe in the first half, but excellent in the second. He's stepped it up this season. Bell very good at CB, other than one slip.
A shame about Chalobah, but Mwamba was class when he came on. I'd be happy for him to start on Wednesday16 -
This will sound like I’m getting carried away (and why not), but, acknowledging it’s only game week 3 and much can (and probably will) change, I wonder if any other old timers agree with me that it’s getting a feel of the early Curbs solo manager era (94 to 97 ish)?By which I mean, punching above our weight with smart investment, a manager who leads the whole club with commitment, care and responsibility, players playing hard for the shirt, and trusting a good crop of academy graduates.
To me, this is what “getting our Charlton back” means. It’s not the Premier League years, fun as they were. It’s being a solidly established top-two divisions club. It’s being a club rooted in its community, with fans at its centre. It’s a club with a prolific academy that sells players but not without them first making a significant contribution to the first team. It’s being a club that is often underestimated but gives anyone a game (midweek this week aside!).
Something you can be proud of, even if it may seem unglamorous and “dull” to ignorant outsiders.
It’s what I grew up with and fell in love with. That is what my Charlton is, at least. And boy have I missed it.
God, I hope this holds for more than a couple of months this time.82 -

Rough first half although Preston did a good job of pressing, and they were an absolutely filthy team which the ref never really got a hold of. Mind blowing that they were complaining throughout when they got away with so much.
Completely dominant second half and it was great to see us keep going for it up until the last couple of minutes of added time. We may not be spectacular but we are a proper team this season.5 -

Mbick is nowhere near ready to be playing in the championship. The boy needs a league 1 loan imo7
