    At the game

    First half was utter dirge from both sides.  Thankfully we were able to kick it up a gear for the second half.  Preston meanwhile seemed to carry on  as before, even playing as if it was all level after we scored.  Very odd. 

    Just when it looked like we were falling back a little bit, the subs really livened it up again.  I don't think I need to wax lyrical about AM, we've all got eyes....

    Don't get the hate for Small.  He did a decent job for us, he chose to go elsewhere 🤷 just like loads of other pros do at every club every year ...

    A gritty, ugly, ground-out win but also fully deserved.

    leaburn MOM, but McNamara, Alli and Mwamba all played a big part.

    bar the injuries, it’s been a fantastic week

    Coventry and Grant looked much sharper after Mwamba and Alli came on, not on a Carey downer but is he going to be left behind?

    Leaburn has had a great start to the season. I thought that he showed particular determination today, he looked like their snide tactics were getting to him, but he responded in the best way possible.

    Another win by one goal and for the first time this term a clean sheet.

    Preston looked low on confidence and seemed to have settled for a draw after 15 minutes which was odd as they caused us some problems in the first half without threatening.

    We looked better when Grant replaced Carey in the 10 role and the much maligned Alli did tine when he came on but it was a dull game on a dull afternoon.

    Mwamba continues to impress, Mbick isn't yet ready to do what Leaburn, good again, does while Grant brings nouse.

    Rat Boy Danny and Mesik did well.

    Hope Chalobah is OK but he wasn't at his best.

    In 2011/12 we went top of league 1 when playing PNE in the league cup due to Sheff Utd losing heavily in the league on the same night. We never relinquished top spot and ended up as champions. Just saying.

    Leaburn put in a warrior's performance, even tracking back and getting blocks in. Also came close to converting a couple of crosses. He's looking really sharp and deserves to get off the mark soon.

    TC was a threat all game and put in some good crosses with his left foot (yes, really). Grant is such an intelligent footballer with his movement and industry. It looked like the keeper should have saved his shot in real-time but on the replay, it was a good finish.

    Buzzing off the 3 wins. West Brom's going to be tough but who'd bet against us on this form.
    Think its a stretch to say Grant's goal was a good finish. It was heavily deflected but he did very well to get a firm shot off from his starting position. 
    Its not a stretch in the slightest. How many players could make that turn to create the opportunity in the first place?

    I don’t want to be negative about Carey but he needs to liven up or he won’t be anywhere near starting. He looks ponderous and seems to want to pass it backwards at every opportunity

    Leaburn playing like the perfect striker for a Nathan Jones system... I'm a big Kelman fan, but he is going to struggle to get back in.

    Thought Mesik was superb aswell... Scouting team are earning their crust this season

    Boring first half. Captivating second half against dirty norvern team that got exactly what they deserved. We could argue all night about who our best players were but, at least in the second half, everyone was good value and we well deserved all three points. My one gripe from the game, and not for the first time, is at the lack of protection Leaburn got from the ref. I think there's an assumption that he's big enough to look after himself, but if he did to the opposition what they do to him the whistle would be going off all the time. I don't like moaning about refs, but that's another one who should hang his head in shame.

    Compare it to last season where niggly, awkward bastards were a bugbear of ours, that's a real step up. We now have the resources and options to change up and refresh our attacking options, and fair play to NJ he has so far used them pretty effectively.

    Lovely stuff, easy 1-0 win, PNE  were shit by the way, but not taking anything away from us, the halftime change was perfect, gave us balance and a threat from both sides. Hope Chalobah is ok, however in Mwamba we have a gem of a player, he came on took the game by the scruff of the neck, looked confident and about ten yrs more experienced than he is. Leaburn is becoming a man, he is finally putting himself about and is becoming an absolute menace for defenders, want a goal from him though. We are looking a real good unit, two fullbacks with a bit of bite is always good to see, CC played a lovely game aswell, only player a bit under par was Carey, but he’s still ok and will have to fight for his place, but got subbed probably correctly so good decision making by the management team. COYR!!!!

    Saw Carey walking up the hill pretty soon after the final whistle with I'm guessing his partner and someone else. He pulled his hood up and looked very miserable. My boys shouted out to him to say hi but got ignored. He definitely seemed pissed off at being hooked at half time and don't normally see players leaving that soon after a game.

    Preston were compact and pressed well. Brownie made the very fair point that isn’t when Carey thrives. Alongside popping up with a few goals, his best contributions are his pressing and driving forwards with the ball. For this you need a defence that has a deeper starting position and some space between their midfield and defence. 

    He set such a high bar in the first half of last season that he was never likely to stay at that level. I would say he’s a write off yet though. 

    We’ve done what you’re supposed to do. We’ve sold or released our weakest players and replaced them with players who are better than our previous best players. The means our previous best players either have to improve to new the bar or will start to look like our weakest players. 

    Carey needs to up his game or he might be one moved on next year, as long as some of these early season positives hold, but there’s still plenty of time for him to do that. Remember, not every player is at top form all season long.

    I think Carey has been the weakest link in our opening three league games.

    Horrible games against these sort of northern teams and usually you get a weak ref .. no chance today never going to be a classics but we were very good .. defence superb with Bell back in his right position and Mesik coming in like he been playing at this level all his life outstanding .. my MOM .. Coventry was superb in mid and up top Leaburn again played well .. the only blank mark was Carey but at least Jones made the chance early second half we were much better on the front foot .. special mention also to Alli who like Knibbs and Apter written of because we lost to Spurs repeat that  Spurs .. there a lot tonight need to hold their heads in shame ….. fantastic 3 points only 43 points to go now

    First half was dull from both sides. Second half, especially after our goal we were in full control and looked like we were going to get a 2nd. PNE were imo pretty poor and didn't offer anything. Big Arth must have been bored shitless. Full credit to all our boys today. UTFA.

    If you are talking about Mesik he is 25. I know it's an inside joke due to the commentator on Wed night saying he was 19 but I think some people missed that & truly think he is younger than he is.

    Quietly assembled a squad with back ups, the Danny Mac/kayne competition is something I’m looking forward to when it happens. 

    Very hard not to get carried away here. 

    Was jones shithousing them particularly badly? Their bench kept kicking off.

    Common theme on post match threads for all 3 league games this season is that 7, 8, 9 players are being picked out per game as having put on a strong performance.

    Key man for me today and this season has been Leaburn - when it goes up to him it sticks, and he's finding teammates or drawing free kicks.
