Charlton finished 19th in the Championship in 2025-2026 after coming up from League One the previous season, so does three successive wins suggest the Addicks are ready to 'kick-on'?
Parkin: "I'm sure if you offered Nathan Jones and the most ardent of supporters a mid-table finish now, they'd snap your hand off for it. So, I don't think anyone will be getting carried away.
"I think that first season is always about staying in the division, being defensively strong. The majority of their victories last season were by narrow margins - like today.
"I think they look a bit more attacking this season. He played a wing-back system before, and they they look like they're playing with wingers this season, which is a bit more attack-minded.
"When they got promoted, they signed a lot of good lads from League One to try and make the step up with them to the Championship. This summer I think there's been a slightly different tack there in terms of recruitment, with a lot more experience - like today's goalscorer Karlan Grant and Nathaniel Chalobah - coming to The Valley.
"There's definitely slight differences in the way that they're setting up, and the style".

Grinded the result out and well done. Largely forgettable first half but we kept at it and got our reward. Two tough away games coming up.

Really does feel like Campbell and Leaburn, even Coventry have made use of the experience from playing in the Championship for the first time last year... Some adapt like a duck to water (Lloyd Jones has looked comfortable immediately), yet those three didn't always have the best of it last year.Does feel like they've gone away over the summer and thought: "Yup that’s the standard I need to raise my game to"12

Woke up this morning feeling fine...!Had a bastard of a time getting to sleep though. The game finished around midnight here, and then it's the euphoria of the win, reading other views on here, checking the other league results, staring in disbelief at the table! It's hard to settle down for a couple of hours.The first half was quite meh from both sides. We do seem to play compact, with little risk. We seem to evaluate what the other side are going to do before we truly take the foot off the pedal and go for it. Not a complaint, it's certainly worked for us since being in the Champ.We do come alive attacking the covered end. Our play becomes a lot sharper and more confident.Miles was super impressive yesterday. He keeps improving, as he has since that horrendous injury, and he will be a top-end Premier League player. He's a beast!TC & KG what an advert for our academy as well.I posted in the match thread that I hadn't yet seen the quality I expected from KG. I haven't followed his career, but he went for big money twice to the Prem. And then he puts on a masterclass in the second half. Bloody love it.TC, he's gonna smash this league this season! We are very fortunate to have signed him long term. I love the way he's standing up for himself more, especially off the ball against big, ugly defenders. He isn't scared of anyone this season.I felt the same as others regarding Sonny. He didn't get into the game, and the change at half-time was immediately visible.I haven't seen Alli play much. Has he featured much in other league games? I don't remember, but he also looked dangerous. Quick, brave, still a little raw, and it was a cracking pacy ball into KG for the goal.Other standouts were the whole back line. Melik looks a real find and has that Charlton attitude we love in a player , blood and guts determination.I don't think I've seen a kid buzz around with such grace and yet also incredible sharpness since watching Rob Lee come into the side back in the Selhurst days, as Mwamba did today.The lad looks electric.He won a 40/60 ball near their 18-yard box that he had no right to win, and at the same time played it to a teammate. A couple of triangular passes with Alli and Danny, and we were on the attack again. That stuff isn't coachable; it's pure talent.His change of direction is on a sixpence, and he wants the ball, always showing for it. Fair feckin' unit of a lad for his age too!AO had sod all to do really, but he does look far more assured than that that gutless, wantaway Flemish git we had.For those that were there, you sounded brilliant throughout the game. Must have been pretty special being in the Championship and singing, "We are top of the league, say we are top of the league!"Long may we sing.UTA!! Charlton's home grown stable is in form and the immature 2 years olds Tyreece and Miles, are now winning Group 1's as 3 year olds and a 6 year old bred in the Valley has returned in Karlan. I Grant you that Karlan was a sprinter (5 furlongs) in his early years but with maturity has turned into a miler and is entered in the Queen Anne stakes.
I spotted an excellent 2 year old called Mwamba who I fancy for the Dewhurst at Newmarket.
A new addition to the Charlton stable is a handsome big black Colt called Arthur who with good handling could be a favourite.
The Charlton stable do have some older horses that are struggling for fitness in Sniffer dog, Burkey and Nathaniel. (They may have to be put down 🤫)
A shame as they all have talent...
An issue with a chestnut called Sonny who won many races as a 4 year old but was put out to stud too early to service the mares and now can't score !13 -

Biggest factor is the bank holiday and back to school next week (up here at least). Lots of families away at the last possible moment2 -
What a great feeling to wake up with - top of the bloody league!First half was a bit flat, was slightly disappointed with the attendance and both teams didn’t look on top gear. Second half was a different story, we took control of the match and looked levels above Preston. Very much deserved the win (again) and it could have been a heavier scoreline. Getting our first clean sheet of the season was important too.
In our three matches so far we’ve beaten a team that’ll end up at the top, middle’ish and bottom ends of the league all with a squad that heavily features our own academy graduates.2 -

Mwamba a will be 20 in about two weeks, and Mbick 20 in November.
Be cautious in rushing to judgement about our young Academy graduates, I mean the Campbell critics are learning a lesson about that, but just as the Fullah cameos of last season immediately caught the eye, with Mwamba it was both eyes accompanied by jaw dropping yesterday.
I have never heard a chant for a graduate happen so early in their Charlton career as I heard from our covered end support yesterday, and there is a lot to be said for the wisdom of crowds.9 -

He came on against Derby at 0-1 and we immediately became more effective. He came off at West Ham at 2-0 and thereafter the ball didn't stick for us going forward.
