Every time I think of Mesik I smile remembering his answer to the question all new players get asked when invited to describe what kind of player they are and their best attributes.
    His immediate response.
    ’Aggression’.

Nobody's wingers will fancy being up against Danny Mac or Mesik. Unless they enjoy being dumped into the hoardings.

Think the ref deserves a few words .. what the hell was he on , how PNE never had 5 men booked in the first half alone and number 10 could have been sent off twice over !!!!! But the most ridiculous thing seen was when he stopped us taking a quick throw only then to hurry up the taker couple of seconds after … complete idiot

Real solid performance PNE I think will really struggle this year. At 1-0 up we didn’t come under as much pressure as we have tended to in recent seasons. Some impressive performances from some of the youngsters onwards and upwards.

Assimwe is developing into a very good player. That load spell with Walsall has helped hime immensely. I think NJ has recognised it too. Assimwe was excellent at Tottingnum on Wednesday.

He absolutely IS a nasty piece of work, as is Milwall Dan. But they are very crafty and artful about it, not Inniss or Thatcher style thugs.

Charlton win & go top of the league. Millwall and Palace both get thrashed. Not a bad weekend!

Great win ,surprised at the turnout having won our first 2 league games
13,000 at most. Lots of absent season ticket holders given it was Preston and the August bank holiday, but the match pricing is wrong IMO and will continue to bite on home ticket sales. It’s a shame because the entertainment value is much higher.

A prime example of this was in the first half when Mesik was charging towards goal and stopped his run to headbutt the arm/hand of the defender alongside him.

    What an animal!

    Ouch, that’s really disappointing.

Agree on the ticket pricing, my wife comes to a couple of matches a season and decided she wanted to come to this one. £35 + £1.50 a ticket in the north upper feels egregious.

£38 for Portsmouth despite the poor turnout for the abandoned Saturday fixture last year.

He was a let things go ref. To be fair to him he was consistent but he allowed a few pull backs that should have been yellow, I thought he missed a couple of fouls on Leaburn and maybe a penalty. Having said that he did not favour any side. I think he might get a bit of a telling off from the assesor but as I said, he was consistent. I have seen worse.

The ref was really good I thought, and treated the players like adults, I'd rather that than a card-happy prick

If the ref doesn’t give us a penalty and/or send off at least one of their players then as far as I’m concerned he hasn’t done his job properly.

Really solid and professional if not spectacular.

Some notable high level performances mainly from Lloydy, Leaburn, Mwamba (i adore his attitude to the game, he is 100% ready) Alli and McNamara

Miles is doing what all of us wanted him to do and were questioning if he had it in him. Using his physically superior attributes as well as his excellent technical ability to dominate senior centre halves and it makes such a difference to us

Hope Chalobah injury isn't a bad one

West Brom have started well and have some class players if they turn up so I won't be shocked if we play tight and try and suppress their worst attacking and free playing urges choosing to kick the shit out of them instead

From what I read pre-season, referees have been ordered to let more things go this season to allow the football to flow better.

The defensive recruitment under Jones since he joined has been outstanding.

Mesik signed from the club who finished bottom of the Eredivisie with 19 points and 85 goals conceded.

With that record it makes me wonder if any other club was after him.

I did enjoy the ref momentarily enraging the entire stadium when he did the universal 'no foul' double arm sweep after an obvious foul on us, but then it turned out he had given it, he was just doing the gesture to mean 'no yellow'. Good stuff

Yesterday‘s game was all about Sonny Carey first half and Alli second half. Chalk and cheese. Carey has not started well this season and I think is losing his place in the team. He had no urgency or attack to his game in that first half at all, which was the difference between the teams. Alli is a player that has urgency and attack to his game and it was great to watch. Mwamba was also a very good addition. Both should be considered to start against West Brom.

First half was a tough watch but kudos to the coaching staff for their suggested change, and to NJ for having the humility to listen and follow through. Carey is carrying on his form from the end of last season and Alli - Grant - TC looks like a stronger lineup.

Alli looks exciting. I thought he was just a punt but they struggled to deal with him. Mesik was physical, aggressive and pretty decent going forwards. Mwamba was electric. Coventry played some lovely passes – very pleased with this improvement.

Leaburn was lazy and disinterested, clearly doesn't want to be here. Correction: He was imperious, battled for everything, pressed endlessly and even shut the keeper's clearances down twice. They struggled to deal with him. I was praying he'd get his goal, hopefully he will soon.

We look so much more exciting on the counter this season... We're a genuine threat.

Other than the warm beer that was actually half IPA and half cider, it was a good day out!

Brilliant second debut from the 19-year old Croatian.
