The whole point of football is that try to score a goal. If the other team is better than you, then so be it.
But QPR weren't better than us. They had players out injured & were there to be beaten. Sadly we didn't even try.
How comes we let them come at us like their at home then?
I'm with golfie on this - we didn't try to play on the front foot at all. We relied solely on the tactic of catching them on the break.
It's supposed to be entertainment. Watching Charlton now feels like an obligation.
I'm not ever going to support anyone else so if you don't like me moaning about it, tough shit. It was shit, just admit it. You were all bored out of your minds but refuse to admit it.12 -
Although QPR were all over us for the second half, I never once felt like we'd concede a goal. Top defense.15

7 from 9 points and 2 clean sheets from 3. Making The Valley a fortress is imparable is a must!!fenaddick said:Just realised we're still unbeaten at home8 -
Will take the point obviously but the difference in class between both Stoke and QPR and us is immense. We are like 2 divisions below them in quality.
TC Leaburn and LJ our only quality. I realise we have many injuries but
we have no midfield whatsoever, no-one who can turn on the ball and move us up the pitch. Every time the ball just goes back to them and another attack comes in.
We resort to hump-ball and hope for something to happen every time.
Just glad that QPR were toothless in the final third.
We all knew at the end of last season what we needed in midfield and nothing has been done.
I am not as confident of 3 points against Pompey as many on here are.
Just hope Leaburn is not crocked for long.
I should be happier than I am with the point but I am worried about how poor we are at keeping the ball.

Almost like they have a stronger side from being in the division for about a decade compared to 1 seasonjimmymelrose said:

Awful game.
looked like miles was holding his groin then his hamstring 30 mins in. Hopefully not, but if so might give mbick a chance. Not sure what to think really, meh.Did look like if we can get some through balls to tc through the middle he will tear the division apart (skipps ball) but we have no creative players to do so. So, meh.1 -
I tend to agree. I've not seen anything yet to suggest he's worth anywhere near 5m. I know he's a kid and still learning the game but he'd have been better off with a season loan in league one getting more minutes than ineffective bit parts here and there with us.Leuth said:What exactly was Mbick playing at? And why didn't we take the 7m? Maybe the laziest performance I've ever seen. Can't be picked again for a long long time, put literally any forward on instead3 -
Did we even have a shot?!1

Terrible refereeing again masks the fact that we're limping along a bit right now.
A makeshift back 4, a very one paced midfield, a lacklustre attacking 4 save for TC and no way to change the game off the bench
If the goal stood it would have been a bit of a smash and grab, at home.
Coventry, for all his work rate and endeavour in winning the ball, for the life of him has no fucking clue what to do with it once on it
Bindon has a chance giving mistake or 3 in him every game it seems
Bell has lost half a step of pace and is getting found out pretty handily by wingers this season
Carey may as well be a ginger wig wearing mannequin
Grant seems to end up dropping 20 yards deeper than he should be and then loses the ball on the dribble in his own half
Leaburn is throwing himself about but doesn't seem to be able to link play with anyone right now, and is possibly injured too
We used JRC in 3 different positions and he looked mediocre in all of them
Mbick just isn't quite ready and we're throwing him out there in desperation
We go again on Saturday, but it was a tough watch tonight and if Miles is missing I struggle to see a front 4 of Grant, TC, Carey and Alli having much of a say in the outcome

Knibbs definitely one of those players who gets better and better when he’s not playing.
Got to tip my hat to the optimism of those who’re convinced he’s the solution even when he’s pretty much done nothing since signing.11 -
There is no definitive view showed by Sky to say one way or the other.ForeverAddickted said:Nathan Jones: "We felt we were on the end - once again - of a tough, tough decision. It is not unlucky - it is just poor play again." #cafc

The offside decision wouldn't matter if we had won 2-0. Apart from that passage of play we didnt trouble their goalkeeper.
NJ would be better addressing our shortcomings......not the officials.5 -
The number 10 was a gap at the beginning of the window and a gap ay the end. I imagine with our budget we coukd not afford somebody better than the ones you mentioned, who are really not good enough.MarcusH26 said:Getting worried about that No10 role. Carey looks like he doesn't fit the formation at all and Jones clearly doesn't trust Knibbs for whatever reason, JRC is a square peg in a round hole there.
Not really sure what else we can try there unless you play a flat 3 in midfield and bring in Mwambas energy.
We also did not get a classy right winger so; once again TC is our only attacking outlet. No wonder he looked knackered by the end.1 -
Great point in the context of the game. QPR much more comfortable on the ball. Mesik at RB was always going to be an issue and thank God Lamptey went off injured because Grant was so preoccupied keeping on top of him, it made it hard for him to do much going forward.
I hope that once we’ve got a few more back it will settle down because we were so sloppy in possession tonight. We cannot go another season seeing very little of the ball. I understood it last season, and I think we’ve made additions to alter that, but if we don’t start to get more of the ball in games, we could have a very similar end to last season where we really tire 35 odd games gone
onto Saturday. Difficult if Leaburn is missing, but at least we’ll have McNamara back.6 -

Amazed at the negativity on here to be honest. I try to watch football games with a bit of a realist's perspective, but I was never THAT worried by a team that are more fluent than us - a team that are better than us. They had one big chance and it was our mistake. We set up, in the context of our lack of attacking options, to not lose, and we didn't.
The worry for me, though, is that we don't try to take risks enough. We're mistaking variance for incompetence sometimes. The Bindon palaver started with Coventry in a crossing position playing it back to our left-back position, us passing it along or just below the halfway line. Cov should have tried to drive forward. We went backward. There were several instances of this where we turned back to kill tempo when a bit of drive may have forced QPR to think a little differently.
We defended really well in both shapes (there was a 15-minute spell of 5-3-2 start of second half). I think we looked good there, and were good value for a point.
The annoying thing is that we bloody scored our big chance and it was incorrectly ruled out. They full on missed theirs. That, to me, is two points we have been done out of by the officials today.
Also... all those having a wobble based on the possession stats etc - look at the table. We'd all have taken that on the first day of the season, right?
Lots of football to be played, lots to come back from injury. Take a breath.27 -

Agreed on Bindon!charlton_hero said:Happy with a point, but it was a tough watch. Bindon looks dodgy.Yet to see this defensive powerhouse we were promisedLeave off him, will yer? He’s younger than both TC and Miles, didnt have a proper pre-season after being involved in the World Cup, and that was his 3rd game in 7 days.2 -
When Bell had the ball his only outball seemed to be passing up the line to TC who had a defender right behind him. This seems to me to highlight the inability of our midfield to get into good positions to receive the ball let alone do anything creative with it.3

They may have been in the division for some time but they have had some serious money issues over recent years and they gave had a big turnover in players over this time. Not to mention 5 managers in the last 4 years.

I need to get off this forum tonight, full of absolute babies crying about a point and being joint 2nd in the league on points.
We’re the best we’ve been for coming up to 20 years. Honestly just go watch Arsenal or someone. Melts.

If there’s no VAR, why does the link let TC slot home nicely before raising his flag??
surely he puts it up as soon as he (incorrectly) thinks he’s offside?2 -
Very surprised Alli didn’t get on earlier1
-
No mention of Jones being totally out witted by Stephans tactical nous which created the overload in midfield and let them control the game.
The constant whining and whinging on here about referees is really tiresome. I haven't seen too many goals scored by the ref against us. Most fans don't even understand the laws of the game.
Recruitment has once again proved to be inadequate.
I don't think many of the summer signings will go on to have any significant career with us.
The supporters who decided to stay away tonight were the only winners. Staggeringly small crowd to watch a game that could have seen us go top.
Pricing of tickets does not help.
Finally my QPR mate tells me that they had loads of injuries tonight. Every club does. It us a squad game now days and our squad is simply not strong or good enough.12 -

kellman
Godden
chalobah
danny

mannion
edwardsAll get back in the first team match day squad
I’m struggling for the 9thBasically from your list we're missing: Ramsay or McNamara, Chalobah, Koumetio as First Team PlayersAs all of those nine (Mannion etc.) likely / possibly wouldn't necessarily have started tonight given the options that did start
Who are the 9 that go into our first team.
Our first team is the starting 11 players.First team for me means the first team squad. Match day selections.Your first 11 changes regularly.
I'll be the first to congratulate Josh Laqeretabua on his first first-team appearance today. On the bench. Unused substitute. The 'first-team' is the first-team we put out onto the pitch.
The first team squad is the 20 who get selected for the game.
Anyway Josh has already been in the first team squad, and made his debut in a league match last season.
When people say "he's training with the first team" they don't mean the specific 11 from the last/next starting XI lineup, they mean the general first team squad2
