And there you have it & the main reason why I never complain about referees. You can't do anything about their decisions so just suck it up & hope you are on the right side of one the next game you play.AndyG said:

It shows they are shit refs. The league gave us a decent ref against West Ham as it was West Ham. He could see Leaburn didn't foul Taty for the second. Today's ref would no way have done that as he has a preconceived idea that because Leaburn is big he fouls and can't be fouled. It isn;t bias against us, it is a bias against big, tall players but what can you do? These people shouldn't be reffing but if they didn't they wouldn't have enough refs. The penalty was ridiculous as the defender didn't even try to hide the push. He put both hands out and pushed. It isn't for the ref to decide how hard he pushed. He can't possibly know that. The player pushed, clearly pushed and Leaburn went down. What can you do with these clowns? No way between them that the officials could have missed that. Wankers. I think there is no better word for these type of officials who don't ref what is in front of them.Athletico Charlton said:Getting really fed up with watching teams target Leaburn, week after week. Stoke was the absolute nadir of that, especially when Madley then booked Leaburn first. It's a disgrace really.
Leaburn was superb today, hopefully he can get himself into a goal scoring groove, if he could get 12-15 this season we would have a very very valuable player on our hands.
Campbell was excellent too, swung a great ball for Alli to score (but he didn't), and put lots of other decent balls in. He isn't perfect but if he was he wouldn't have with us.
Thought Skipp and Coventry looked excellent together. We badly miss a good number 10, Grant, JRC, Knibbs, Carey; none are good enough sadly. Hopefully we find a way to fix that in January.
We have had an excellent start to the season.0 -

I take it you didn’t see Skipps pass for the TC “offside” goal in the week then? Or Coventry opening up the space for a goal earlier in the season? I know you didn’t see any of the creative work they did today because you didn’t watch the match but still want to criticise them!golfaddick said:

No where in that post did I criticise either Coventry or Skipp. I merely pointed out that if you are going to play Chalobah then one of them has to drop out.
But you carry on with your agenda.5 -
Haven’t read the thread this evening as went out for my birthday after the game. A more frustrating game than Wednesday as Pompey are several levels of quality below QPR. A shame we didn’t take our chances in the first half. Second half I’ve not sure I’ve seen less happen in a half ever. As long as we don’t lose I’m fairly content.Getting very worried about Bindon’s defensive lapses. Could’ve cost us in both of the last 2 games. Other than Bindon’s mistakes we look rock solid defensively. We obviously need more cutting edge going forward but clean sheets are our currency. We go again at Cardiff!0

Instead of constantly slamming the club...try and educate yourself a bit about football. How about this for some perspective?golfaddick said:
No chance Leaburn is getting anywhere near 12-15 goals. 7 games in = 0 goals. Not his fault really because he spends much of his time battling 2 defenders about 40 yards from goal. I'd be surprised if any of our strikers score more than between 6 & 8 this season. Double figures is a pipe dream.

You are right. Starting now is less than four months ahead. Well, we will have to live with that now and do the best we can. But we can steal a march by also starting the summer 2027 window thread now as well.fenlandaddick said:
Then I can have fun by suggesting clearing out in summer some of the players other posters are suggesting we sign this coming winter.
Had we adopted that excellent system two years ago, I could have suggesting clearing out Apter, Mannion, Knibbs, Carey, Rankin-Costello, Kelman, and Olaofe before we even signed them, and the club would be in a better position now.
Start now. Jones and Chapple are desperate for our input.2 -

Spot on. Got tired around 55 mins. Jones just didnt react. On him that we could only manage a point and had an average second half.ct_addick said:NJ only making one sub is ridiculous….could see players were tired…don’t think you can play Skipp and Cov together if u want to score0 -

Only reason I can think of for the lack of subs was that NJ wanted to get a full 90 minutes into a lot of those legs, to try to build match fitness up to the next level.
I think we need to persevere with Alli. First half he was excellent, good effort just before HT as well.
Good to see Skip settling in nicely and Cov's game has moved up a level this season.
Defensively and in midfield, I think we'll be fine. But something needs to click up front, ATM something is lacking, and I think we are definitely one quality player short in that department.10 -
We were the better team especially first half and should have been 1 up at half time (Ali miss). Agreed with most that I felt we should have made changes round 60 minutes . Would have liked to have to have seen Carey come on along with Kelman. Defensively we look excellent we just don’t have that cutting edge quality in the final third.
I can see improvements from last season and we look better to watch in this system (4-2-3-1). Thought Skipp was excellent. 12 points from the first 7 games with some key players out. Take that all day long. UTFA!8 -
Jones didnt make any subs because he thought the players on the pitch, even though knackered, were more likely to score/less likely to concede than changing the shape slightly with players from the bench.
he just doesnt trust Knibbs, Rankin-Costello, Carey, Mwamba, Ouma, Nkeng to not fuck up of given 20-30 mins.I have some sympathy with that but would probably have taken grant and alli off sooner.5 -
I agree with you, though I can see why others are concerned with the lack of goals recently.eastterrace6168 said:
I ain't got any "jitters" mate, we're doing just fine, Stoke aside, we've created some nice play, and just failed to get the finishing touch or a ref who can see might help, but 12 points and 6th after 7 games is a good return, and when we get a return of Edwards, Chalobah and Billy + Godden, we will be a settled mid table at least...DartfordAddick said:Eh, another day Ali scores in the first half, we get the Leaburn pen and it's a routine 3 points. Annoying to not get it done but seems like we're in a good place to me.
A win at Cardiff to settle any jitters and get the squad fully fit over the break please!
It's obvious, but such a shame we couldn't get a first choice RW option in. Ali needed replacing when it clearly wasn't dropping for him on the day.
I don't think he's the answer yet, but surely Nkeng was worth a go there for the final 10 mins or so. It's not as if Ali was helping us keep a clean sheet either.1 -
2 home games in a week where we haven't had a single shot on target in the second half. Really disappointing as i felt Portsmouth were there for the taking.
No idea why Jones didn't make any other subs. If you're not going to bring on the likes of Nkeng, Knibbs, Mwamba for the last 15 minutes at home to Portsmouth when we're crying out for some fresh legs and a bit of an energy boost then what are they even doing here? You can't really moan about the scheduling and how tired players are and then only make 1 sub.
Positives are a clean sheet, no more injuries and we're still unbeaten at home, but i think that was 2 points dropped and the same problems as last season are still very evident.16 -
Sometimes NJ comes over as trying not to lose rather than trying to win a game, and yesterday was a prime example, hence the lack of attacking options from the bench…11
-
Millenic Alli.
Lots of Ls... it's Alli, not Ali.1 -
Only the one sub made by Jones yesterday against a side that never played during the week.
In the last 30 minutes it was noticeable that players were running in fumes and fresh legs were required in my opinion
Credit to the 12 out there. A couple are not good enough, a few are going well this season but in the whole can’t fault them for a lack of effort5 -
Decent game, dont think anyone had a bad game.all put in a shift.f had to pick a stand out player it would be Skipp.we did however give the ball away needlessly a few times which could have cost us.For some reason, the ref didnt seem to think pushing someone with both arms on the back was a foul, apart from the obvious penalty, this happened a few times(both teams).I was right near the goal kick corner incident, how the lino missed the pompey touch will remain forever a mystery. The odffside incident was also keystone cops standard,Leaburn had no interest and walked back onside,Campbell who was miles onside, got the ball and was adjudged by the ref(Lino had not flagged)to be off side.Whereby ref obviously realised he had ballsed up ,and told lino to raise his flag to get him out of the shit. These refs get around £!20000 p.a. plus match fees,3 times now in the last 3 games, obvious errors could well have cost us points, surely the standard has to be raised.6
-
I get NJ’s rational that the last 10 minutes we were pushing and he didn’t want to lose that momentum.
The issue was the 20/25 minutes before that.5 -

Having only seen it at the match, it looked like as clear a penalty as you will ever see.
After the last three matches there's an awful lot of "evening itself out over the season" to come...
I say that as someone who detests VAR.14 -
I was sitting in the upper West nearly in line and had a great view unlike anyone in the NORTH stand where you just can't see offsides unless it is by many yards.
Grant couldn't go for the ball as he would've been offside so when Campbell was given offside, it was a case of the Ass ref not being able to distinguish between a black guy TC with dreadlocks and a mixed race man Karlan, with a cropped hair cut.

The difference having a quality keeper has made this week is two points rather than zero.
Parky looks on shaky ground at Wrexham and his £10m keeper hasn’t exactly had a great start. Some of their fans are already calling for AO to be recalled, and if they do end up changing manager, you’d imagine whoever comes in would want to take a look at Arthur in January.
If there’s any way we can sort a pre-contract with him now, I’d be all over it.

I didnt say they looked fitter, I said we looked unfit.cafc_se7 said:
Might be due to the fact Pompey had a week off and were fresh?!Croydon said:We look unfit. Players blowing at their arse from 60 mins onwards. The game is screaming for subs and we make one.
2 wide men who can't cross. Alli was so poor after his miss.
We made some great defensive additions in the summer but our inability to improve our attacking options means we are unable to break shit teams down. Horrific to watch.
Leaburn and Campbell have looked dead on their feet after an hour of every match, and Alli was the same yesterday.0 -
If subs were better than the starting 11, they would have started but subs change games. Aneke made a career out of it with us.
pace on the right, a change of personnel in the middle of the park would have been something different for pompey to think about.
the lack of substitutions was baffeling11 -
I thought Cafc played good football 1st half with decent build up and some shots on target. TBF to Alli he tried to cushion the ball into the net from about the only cross from TC that found a red shirt. Unfortunately Alli got a tad underneath and the chance to get the Pompey crowd off his back was lost.
1st half Charlton were definitely the better team with the best chances. I can't remember Pompey having a chance 1st half. It's just a shame that Leaburn, Alli and Grant who all did excellent work to have the opportunity, all hit the ball straight at the keeper. Karlan had a narrow angle so he had limited options.
2nd half and straight away Arthur makes a smart save down low to tip the ball away for a corner.
Everyone and their Auntie could see several CAFC players were struggling physically from the 60th minute onwards but Nathan despite having a few committee meetings with Fleming and coe didn't make any subs until Kelman came on in the 76th min but we needed other fresh legs.
No one was playing bad but some were blowing out their backside and Pompey were gaining momentum.
We are not getting any big Ref decisions go our way which is so frustrating even though we are all bias but so many seem clear cut 🤷🏻♂️
After the 4-0 Stoke hammering, to keep two clean sheets is a good response but goals are the name of the game and they have dried up not helped by the officials.

Won’t score enough goals this season me thinks. And it will be our downfall can see us getting plenty of draws and narrow 1-0 defeats.2
-
Around the time of the “offside” there was a 50/50 challenge, that both players went in fully, the Pompey player went down and the ref gave them a free kick. Never a free kick. It seems that every bit of contact and a player goes down is a free kick. Expect in the box, Arsenal had a penalty given against them yesterday similar to the one against us last week. All the pundits on MOTD said it wasn’t one.thickandthin63 said:Decent game, dont think anyone had a bad game.all put in a shift.f had to pick a stand out player it would be Skipp.we did however give the ball away needlessly a few times which could have cost us.For some reason, the ref didnt seem to think pushing someone with both arms on the back was a foul, apart from the obvious penalty, this happened a few times(both teams).I was right near the goal kick corner incident, how the lino missed the pompey touch will remain forever a mystery. These refs get around £!20000 p.a. plus match fees,3 times now in the last 3 games, obvious errors could well have cost us points, surely the standard has to be raised.1 -
