Dudgeon LBW for a duck
117-7
The way things are going Crawley, who is on 49 (81), might end up carrying his bat1 -
The powers that be prefer the Hundred to county cricket.MarcusH26 said:
There's so many absolutely ridiculous scorecards today that it does raise the question of why we're playing this late into September.Addick Addict said:Appreciate that the technique of a lot of batters in both divisions of the CC is going to be found wanting whatever the conditions but, seriously, how do we expect to produce internationals when the vast majority of our red ball games are played in April, May and September?
That's another contribution as to why we cannot produce a proper spin bowler.
I shall stop now before I lose the plot
Fuck the Hundred7 -
50* (84) for Crawley

151-7 (35) at close and 10 behind
Crawley 68* (95)
Milnes 8* (17)3 -
151/7 at stumps. A couple of overs lost to bad light. Good recovery: Crawley 68 no.3

On balance a good day. Can't see Northants winning from their position.3

Apparently 123 wickets fell in the county championship today.4

Should Compton fail again in the second innings then I do not see how he can play in the final game. He has been desperately out of form with five consecutive single digit scores (season average 24.71) but also doesn't bowl. Nor, for that matter (and I include Muyeye in that) do any of our top five. Therein lies the other issue - the balance of the side, the ability to include a spinner and not have a tail that starts at 8.
Dawkins would be the obvious replacement, but he doesn't help the balance and hasn't been in great form in the first or second XIs recently. This might sound a radical proposal and some might think I am being biased in suggesting this, but I would open with Ekansh. This is anything but a strange position for him as he did the job throughout age group cricket and he is probably one of our most technically sound batters.Ekansh batted at 3 in the CC last season scoring 49 (90) and 27 (24) against Northants then 33 (68) against Leicestershire and 60 (139) against Lancashire. That's 169 runs at an average of 42 (80) for the only times he's batted in the top three. The reason he's been batting at 7 this season is to accommodate all the missing batters from last season and the return of Northeast.
Worst case scenario is that Ekansh matches Compton's single digit scores - but he will still be there to bowl. Second best is that he gets say 25 and faces 50 plus deliveries of the new ball thereby meaning Northeast and co aren't rushing to get their pads on. Anything beyond that would be an added bonus but as he proved last season he is capable of batting in the top three.
There is another aspect to this too. For a youngster, coming in at 7, can be mentally tough in terms of decision making especially when you end up batting with the tail. That has been Ekansh's issue, sometimes, as his shot selection has been impacted by the situation he has found himself in. Opening the batting is far easier, so far as decision making is concerned, as all the parameters are known ones - keep out the good balls and score off the bad ones.
Promoting Ekansh would mean that we can play five seamers and a spinner and our tail will still look better:
Crawley
Ekansh
Northeast
Muyeye
DBD
Benjamin
Stewart
Foreman
Dudgeon
Milnes
AhmedI’m now hoping that Compton reads this and that it galvanises him into hitting a ton in the second innings!

Of which 5 fell to spin. In late season. Kind of appalling actually. Something needs to be done about these pitches and these Dukes ballsFremlinsFellow said:Apparently 123 wickets fell in the county championship today.0 -

Yes but think of all those wickets that were taken by spinners in August. In the Hundred.Leuth said:

Some ridiculous scores today across the country. Yes it's mid September, but hardly badly autumnal weather. You wonder what sort of pitches have been prepared, and the how helpful the Dukes have been this season.

We are in the lead!!!0

We have a first innings lead. Hopefully we can extend it if Crawley survives.2

168-7
A lead of 7 and partnership of 51* between Crawley and Milnes3 -
I can see Northants getting batting points here.1

Anderson bowling to Milnes. Gorgeous morning for cricket.
3 -
But they might not win. Our game is more advanced than theirs and there is rain predicted tomorrow and possibly on Saturday. Three, four or even five extra batting points won't make up the difference between us, hopefully, winning and them drawing.CHG said:I can see Northants getting batting points here.3 -
Crawley LBW 84 (120)
198-8 (47.1) for a lead of 371 -
Ahmed is out in comical fashion - leaves a straight ball that is hitting all three
198-9 (48)1 -

In the land of the blind, Crawley has been the king of our top five since he returned from his break from red ball. Very much, though, a case of relative feast (without converting fifties) and famine:

Matt Quinn brings up the 200 with a single and somewhat injudiciously, maybe, keeps the strike.1

Knowing how much most of you on here love Surrey any chance i can borrow Fanny to do a two day rain dance at the Oval.
Ducks for cover.7 -
Straight answer - NO!!!!blackpool72 said:Knowing how much most of you on here love Surrey any chance i can borrow Fanny to do a two day rain dance at the Oval.

If I were Quinn then I would be knocking on Hollioake's door straight after leaving the field. Ahmed averages 5.35 in FC cricket whereas Quinn's average is 10.681
-
After three successive fours through mid-on and mid-wicket, Quinn plays on and Kent are all out for 214. Milnes 40no, Quinn 14.3
-
214 all out and a lead of 53
Quinn is cleaned up for 13 (11). Milnes' contribution of 40* (75) cannot be underestimated in the context of the game5 -
Ahemd has Jennings caught at slip by Crawley for a duck
4-14
