I feel sorry for Miles. My son was saying he just doesnt score enough goals and Kelman needs to be given a run.... but then again, I said I cant remember him missing a sitter or anything this season.1

He's missed a few headed chances tbf. A really really good one in the first minute against QPR, one slightly harder one against Portsmouth. Think the QPR one was him anyway0

Excluding the goal tally Leaburn looks better in every other department than he has last season.One thing we criticised Leaburn for was consistency and besides him, TC and Okonkwo I think he’s the only player to have not put in a really bad performance this season3

He needs good crosses or balls to feet 15-20 yards out so he can shift it and shoot. With us he gets neither0

He’s having to scrap and fight alone to win a flick on ball or intercept something … then have to scrap and fight again for the second ball after doing the initial work himself… poor bastard0

Anyone of a certain vintage on here will see the parallels with his Dad at about the same age. Took a long time for Carlo to start scoring but it came eventually. He was never prolific but when the dam finally broke he was a consistent scorer. He also did a ton of dirty work and because of it wasn’t always in the box to finish the moves he helped start.
For sure we’ve had a couple of particularly bad showings at Stoke and Cardiff, but in all
other games, even those we had minimal possessions didn’t score, we have created chances and more so than we would have done last year.
I think NJ has been true to his word about how he wants us to play and what we were going for with the summer signings, but there are pieces missing, currently.TC has stepped up and Grant, while he isn’t perfect, is an improvement on what we had last season - a Championship level player and solid pickup on a free. Grant is probably okay on the right most of the time, in the absence of anyone else, but he’s isn’t a long term solution at No. 10.
Early days on Alli still but the early signs aren’t great.
Carey not starting the season well, and the JRS deal collapsing has created an issue. In think a lot was riding on JRS being the marquee signing of the summer. There doesn’t appear to have been a backup option, probably partly because we were in a position to get a bit of a deal on JRS that meant other similar quality players weren’t within reach.
I know Carey tailed off last season, and it’s debatable if he’ll ever the right kind of 10 for this system anyway, but I don’t think anyone saw him starting the season this poorly. I don’t know why Knibbs hasn’t been given an opportunity yet, but I also don’t particularly feel
he’s the solution either as we need guile, vision, and creativity in there, not just more hard running and an occasional goal.
That inbalance in the three behind Miles is where a lot of the issues are and until we fix that it’ll be scraps only for Miles.
Not sure how we fix it either. None of the injured players are going to come into that position and everyone else who’s had a go has struggled.I thought Kelman’s movement yesterday added something but a game like that isn’t really the one for judging individuals and I’m not sure Kelman is a 10 or ever will be, but how else do you get him, TC and Miles in the same team? Certainly not TC at wing back (please stop doing that, NJ). TC hasn’t had a go at 10 yet but that would risk blunting out best attacker.
NJ has a problem here. Let’s hope he finds a solution soon.1 -

While all that people are bringing up is true, part of the reason that he doesn’t miss any sitters is that he doesn’t get in good positions to score. He rarely makes a run to the near post or drops back for a cutback cross. His default seem to be to be behind the defender and to use his height on an aerial cross. The problem is that is a fine line that requires a very accurate cross. That being said part of the issue has been he has to drop deep to control the ball and can’t get into the box in time for the wingers.
