Saw bloc party at rough trade today.  Their new album live set. Songs are truly awful, what a difference to their fantastic debut.

Exciting October.  Strokes + Angine de Protrine (not together).
Yeah, only listened once. Hard to convince myself that it'll grow on me. What have they done? Everyone cites their debut but I prefer Weekend In The City. All their albums have something to say for themselves but this one seems a real damp squid.

We're going to The Strokes and The Wedding Present in October.
Saw The Wedding Present here in France at the beginning of the year.

I'm over for the Norwich match this month and had to choose between Transvision Vamp and Swervedriver. Seen the latter before so went for the former.

Unfortunately line up changes as half the band could not work with Kele.

The original members together made a brilliant debut and then egos got in the way.

When they play the first album, still decent live.

The Crooks at 229 London on Saturday. Decent litte venue, a new one for me. First time I've seen them, strong oasis influence and some very decent tunes. A good evening after the Cardiff trip.

Support were worth a mention, The Public Eye, really enjoyed them and will try to see them again.

A few personal favourites coming up again, Reytons, The Rifles, Freddie Halkon, Andrew Cushin, and the annual Shed Seven singalong.
I'll be at the Electric Ballroom for The Rifles 29th anniversary gig. Unbelievable live band.

Saw Soapbox (Scottish Punks) at the The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch last night.

A uniquely Scottish evening with the singer swigging from a bottle of Buckfast most of the evening!

Another tiny venue with no A/C and a room temp approaching that of the surface of the sun!

Saw Joe Jackson in Cork City Hall last night.
    Jeez for a 72yr old he’s magnificent.
Got half way through ‘End of the Pier’ and his mic goes. Both he and the band were so engrossed in it they didn’t realise despite us all in the crowd trying to gain his attention. His reply? ‘And there I was, carrying on singing like a c***’ 😂😂😂
The crowd were in bits and he sang the song from halfway again once the mic was fixed.
    Great entertainment 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎
  • I have tickets for His Lordship at the 100 Club 17 November. To be honest, I have never heard of them. Look at who is joining the stage that night. Seems like a no brainer.

Watched Kristin Hersh at All Saints Church   Kings Heath , Brum

Great part of Brum to visit , got a pint  in at the Hare  n Hounds and Station Inn Pre gig .

First time watching Kristin and really enjoyed it , playing on her own but her brilliant guitar playing n vocals really filled the church venue from her Throwing Muses style sliding chords to her intricate guitar picking n single notes. She has an incredible stage presence that is hard to explain funny, dark, fragile n powerful . She played a good mix inc songs from her new album , oldies like Teeth from Hips n Makers and of course the obligatory ‘Your Ghost ‘

it’s really worth catching her on tour .

Awesome. I haven’t seen her for a few years now but I splashed out silly money on an original pressing of The Real Ramona a few weeks ago. She rules.
  • The Pretty Reckless last week. Really good show, Taylor Momson can certainly belt out a song.

A rare headlining show, as they’ve been touring with AC/DC for two years. I can’t think of any other band that’s done a support job for that long. Normally they change it around, especially when they change continents.

Irish band Greywind on Thursday. Looking forward to it, almost saw them a couple of years ago when they were on the bill at a show 5 minutes from my house, but they pulled out sick the day before.  This will be the second date of their us tour, some I’m feeling pretty confident they’ll make it this time.

Saw The Bluetones last night at TW Forum. They honestly sound as good today as they did in their heyday! They’re celebrating the 30year anniversary of Expecting To Fly.

    Superb night!

Great gig, The Beat were good but preferred The Selecter tbh. Bumped into Jerry Dammers after the show.

    Anyone see Starsailor tonight?
  • A friend invited me to see Swim Deep at the Moth Club. I didn’t know much about them and expected ok but no
more. In fact, they were very good - sound a bit Coldplayish at times without being Coldplayish. Highly recommend and left wondering why they are playing small venues.

Went to the Royal Albert Hall on Monday to see Freya Riding. Other than a very random intro from her parents and brother, her mum read out a chapter of a book she just wrote ( felt like Jackanory ) it was absolutely amazing. Basically, it was her, a piano, some strings and a guitar. No hiding place.

Her support act, Amber Run was very good too.

This venue is just incredible, been here a few times but you forget just how special it is.

The Strokes at the o2 last night.  Incredible band, excellent setlist (mix of old, new, obscure) and Julian has some voice still live.  Taken a while to get into the recent singles, but they are still progressing.  Great to see them doing a proper tour (which they have not done since the 00s) in the UK.

Came on about 21.05, bailed just before the end to catch the last train home from LB.
Bloody brilliant apart from I thought the lighting was far too dull.
9/10 a must see if they return.

You got a great setlist last night, better than mine (soma, selfless, one way trigger).

Hopefully it convinces them to continue to create and tour as a band with their back catalogue have played so few shows.

It's is an incredible venue mate. There can't be many a bad seat to watch from. I've seen a few concerts there, probably the most random act was Reef, but they were rocked in there !! Off to a similar venue on Saturday to see Alison Moyet, the Brighton Dome.... going back to my roots.... LOL

Yes, indeed around 2009/2010. I think I would put it just behind Tom Petty probably a couple of years after the Cranberries and Wolf Alice early this year.
