Parking in the UK and parking charges
I was an early adopter of Ringo. Made life easier assuming you weren't parked somewhere devoid of signal. It is to be applauded.
BUT
Its killed that beautiful, mild resistance of the British people whereby upon cruising out of the car park, handing a ticket to someone coming in and giving it "there's still an hour left on that mate"
A thoroughly warm community focussed thing that has been killed
Now a generation have come up not experiencing this act of goodwill, has, I believe, led directly to people queueing in pubs like plebs in single file. Something else that makes my veins twitch

While I'm at it
I spend a lot of time having to work around the great British scum public. The assumption I want to be approached and spoke to blows my mind. I never mind children or old people doing it, in fact it makes my day. What I cannot abide is the scum class doing it. Some crackmonkey, a pisshead, a vagrant. I guarantee I will get at least one interaction every single time I have to do a job somewhere with moderate foot traffic I have to negotiate one of these situations and they never leave me feeling better than before
"Whatya doing mate" as their eyes are on pivots looking for something they think they or one of their crackhead pals can easily steal from my worksite. The volume of every single interaction is conducted at the same level as a 737 taking off and is completely performative.
Its really difficult to handle these situations without escalating something. Then there are the fairly new menace of "auditors". Thankfully I haven't had too many of these gutter rats to deal with but my colleagues have and they will never be hit enough for my liking these intentional agitators who seem to exist purely to provoke what appears to be an irrational irate response from someone otherwise just minding their business trying to do their job befire getting some maggot holding a mobile phone in their face or even worse those pervert glasses with LEDs.
Happily the landlady in my local kicks people, always men, out who are wearing them3 -

Spot on. To be frank, I just don't understand how in a reasonable world anything can be sold bearing the words 'not transferrable'*. If I've paid to rent out a parking spot for x number hours, I've rented it out for x number of hours, it's absolutely nothing to do with them which car I choose to put in it.Carter said:Parking in the UK and parking charges

A parking space though, it sums up the wider attitude to Britain these days of over regulation and bureaucracy, not to improve things but to fund an industry of bureaucracy and nit-picky rules to trip people up who do not have malicious intentions. Then not do anything about those outwardly flouting rules and regulations. Maddening2 -
On the topic of Car Parking Apps, the bloody amount of them, and how useless some are!!I swear National Trust would use Ringgo, but have now seemingly switched to JustPark - If there is ever an umbrella app that should be used, then its Ringgo!! - At least with them you can find Parking spots, find out when the Car Park is open from / until, how much it might cost for a future trip - The JustPark app on the other hand is bloody useless unless you have the Car Park code to begin with, and of course its not an easy code to find online either!!! - Then any pre-prep information, is a bloody chore to try and fill out as well2

Yep, used to love giving over my ticket when it had time left on it...Carter said:

I think this is a misdiagnosis in my view. Its not over regulation or bureaucracy. Its private companies that run the charging on these car parks (whether its outsourced to them by someone else or they actually own it). Its these private companies that are taking advantage of a technology to close a previous loophole and so extract as much from the consumer as the consumer will take. A better diagnosis of the problem would be the outsourcing of everything and that we as a society have allowed extraction in every setting. In Economics we call it rent-seeking behaviour - there is no value added for the change just an opportunity to extract more from the consumer. The perfect example is Gatwick now carging what £15 for an airport drop off of less than 2 minutes. What value are they adding by charging for that? Nothing they just saw an opportunity to extract more and took it.Carter said:

I actually think the "over regulation" line which is wheeled out as a blame for every problem in our society is the laziest misdiagnosis possible.
It’s not too much regulation that has allowed water companies to pump sewage into our rivers and seas. It’s not too much regulation that allows those same companies to pay out millions in dividends whilst loading themselves with the equivalent in debt. It’s not too much regulation that lets tech companies build in planned obsolescence, so by year two your phone is slowing down. It’s not too much regulation that means your washing machine breaks in 3-5 years when they’re quite capable of making one that lasts decades. It’s not too much regulation that let flammable cladding go onto Grenfell. It’s not too much regulation that let Boeing certify its own 737 MAX (see all the problems thats had). It’s not too much regulation that lets landlords rent out homes riddled with damp and mould. It’s not too much regulation that lets private equity strip a care home chain, then walk away when it collapses or house children in the care system in tents. It’s not too much regulation that lets your cereal box shrink while the price stays the same. It’s not too much regulation that allows supermarkets profit margins to increase whilst blaming price increases on a cost of living crisis. It’s not too much regulation that means you dont own your own music anymore and its a subscription to still access it, or how everything is a subscription service now. It’s not too much regulation that allows...
Edit: god I didn't even mention enshitification like google deliberately making its search engines worse so you are more likely to refine your search and so they get extra add revenue. Or how tech companies have designed products deliberately to be addictive for children. These are also not due to too much regulation.
Edit 2: oohh another one! Its not too mcuh regulation that has allowed cadburys to dilute its chocolate with palm oil making it taste like shite recently. Its not too much regulation that allows multinationals to write off UK profits against foreign losses and so avoid tax - we know a simple piece of regulation could stop this as many other countries have done it and we recently did it but just for fossil fuel companies.
Like I said a couple of pages back. These problems (or general things that annoy you!) are all linked.
They are the direct result of the toxic economic conditions and fundamentally flawed economic system in which we are forced to live. We need to start seeing these as systemic problems rather than individual issues if we are to make things better.

I know there are some who will jump on you at the first opportunity. As a mod, it is very difficult to stop them when they are in the right.
Now, please can we move on.

To be fair to them, no-one has ever stipulated not to discuss 'British Politics'. The rule is not to discuss politics. For the absence of doubt, that is politics, full stop.ME14addick said:
It's the same people every time, they can't help themselves. It was not a post about British politics, but about a man who has affected all our lives. It's always he same people who choose to make it political whenever I post.Chaz Hill said:

It’s the most obvious personality pile on at this point. The number of posts on here over the last couple of weeks alone that if they were made by Emmy would recieve a pile on just like this one from the usual suspects but are allowed to slide either because they are okay with the poster or okay with the views espoused.ME14addick said:
Agree with you, it's how others have chosen to interpret it, that have caused the comments that followed. They could just like or lol and leave it at that.gringo said:m
its not uk politics, its not going to effect any elections or cause riots or anything here. When a person who annoys you, does something that effects you personally ie fuel prices, or genuinely gives you cause for concern then I think thats its a valid point.DaveMehmet said:
Can’t argue with that but time and time again, we’ve been asked to not post anything political. Can you not understand that??ME14addick said:

My builder - hes generally been great but grating on me the last week or so.
Having a big extension project done - had to put needles in upstairs to support the structure while walls are knocked down and until the steels are in place. Fine with that - its annoying as have to do some light gymnastics to go to the loo and the spare room got covered in dust and all the furniture moved around. But we can cope living in 2 rooms for a couple weeks, short term pain long term gain etc etc....
But the needles came out over a week ago now, hes bricked up the holes but is dragging his feet on patching up inside. Every day there is another excuse. I just want it patched up and the radiator back on so that I can put the carpet back down, move the furniture back, clean up all the brick dust and have a useable space back please. Surely not that hard ffs.0 -
All tradies time keeping is a joke. Over the last week I’ve had a lock and a boiler fuck up. You ring them, yeah I’ll be an hour…..gets to 7pm ( so now it’s my social time) they rock up, like they’re doing me a favour. It’s an extra few quid for you but I’ve stayed indoors all day on the off chance you’ll show up then you come when I’m trying to cook dinner and relax.cantersaddick said:My builder - hes generally been great but grating on me the last week or so.
